I had this recently happen to me. I will share what the Man of God over me has said in regard to foolish questions and sincere ones. Always be instant in season and out and be ready to give account to any man who asks about your hope. However, sometimes some one will ask a foolish question. Now, some questions do cause controversy, that is not a foolish question. Those just happen sometimes. They are sincere in their asking. A foolish question is one where the person asking really doesn't want to know the answer. They know the answer to their question and here is what they do, they see if your answer matches their answer and if it doesn't then they begin a debate. They do not have a desire to learn. I have been instructed to avoid foolish questions. Does any one know the scripture that talks about defending the gospel. Also not to cast my pearl to swine.

Good grief. If that rapture is true. Why dose Christ say He returns then, after those days in Matthew 24 ? Why dose Paul say the same thing in II Thessalonian 2 ? And why dose Christ repeat that thought in Revelation 11 ? Why dose Gos say in Ezekiel 13, that He is against those teaching people to fly to save their souls?

These are all questions that we have to answer, as its written. Naturally, we're going to want to abide by what it says there, and continue mature in that.

What is a controversial question? To some Christians, its a question they don't have an answer to. In that case, "I don't know" might be a good answer . Jesus answered some pretty controversial questions, so imo, if you know the answer, answer the question. Jesus even answered a lot of "gotcha questions" when the Pharisees accused him of breaking the law, so I don't think we should back down from controversy or run from questions we dislike. No such thing as a dumb question, only dumb answers. Of course, if someone is just mocking you, then perhaps their questions should be ignored. JMO
