i see a lot of this kind of idea tossed about, and was in fact earlier questioned about it in another thread.
people saying absolutely everyone is one of God's children.
here are a few verses speaking to the fact not all are God's children, but only those who are in covenant through Christ.
please add your own.
He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (Jn 1:11-14)
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Gal 3:26)
(...)just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. (Eph 1:4-6)
Genesis 5, Romans 5, and 1 Corinthians 15 give us the answer to this:
1This is the written account of Adam’s family line.
When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his [Adam's] own image; and he named him Seth. (from Gen. 5)
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. (from Rom. 5)
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. (from 1 Cor. 15)
We are all born of Adam, in the flesh and spiritually dead; but when we believe in Christ, we are born of Last Adam - New Creations, given spiritual life \o/!
Then we are children of God, co-heirs with Christ
Bob George does a really excellent job of communicating what God's Solution to Man's Problem is - LIFE!
