Standard funerals here in the USA are actually harmful because they're anti
green. The figures below represent chemicals and construction materials
consumed on account of, and/or buried with, America's dead in just one
calendar year.

30,000,000+ board feet of hardwoods

100,000+ tons of bronze, steel, and copper

1,000,000+ tons of concrete.

1,000,000+ gallons of formaldehyde

Not to mention the 2,000,000+ acres of land devoted to existing cemeteries
maintained with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and petro-chemical
fertilizers which all eventually leach into the soil and into our water sources.

We are literally killing the planet to honor our dead. And the irony of it all--
the sublime irony --is that the reason half of us go to funerals is to pay our
respects to people we couldn't be bothered with when they were alive.

So-called "proper burial" is a gray area and as such falls within the
guidelines discussed in the 14th chapter of the letter to Romans; viz: since
nothing hard and fast is specified for Christianity's dead, then it would be a
mistake to impose our opinions about it on others; thus usurping Christ's
sovereign prerogative to dictate the rules of conduct for his followers.

Gen 18:27
New American Standard Bible
And Abraham replied, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord,
although I am only dust and ashes.
I don't see a problem with cremation. Since we were made from dust & ashes, God won't have a problem raising the righteous from it.

According to the principles set forth in the 14th chapter of the letter to
Romans: cremation is both wrong and pagan for you but not necessarily
wrong and pagan for others because this is a gray area wherein each are at
liberty to decide for themselves.

I don't see a problem with cremation.

Rom 14:5 . . Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

Rom 14:22 . . Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he
approves.

NOTE: There is the letter of the law and then there is the spirit of the
law. Things like cremation, nude bathing, cosmetics, tobacco, coffee,
firearms, movies, video games, etc. aren't spelled out in the 14th of Romans
but its principles can be applied to just about any gray area, i.e. debatable
matters.

I did a study on the subject a while ago.
Cremation was always a pagan practice.
Burial was the practice used by God's people.
I can't prove that cremation is a sin, so I'm not dogmatic on the subject. With the ridiculous cost that funeral homes charge, I understand why some choose to be cremated. It cost around $12,000 for a family member, closed casket and burial. The mortician did nothing except for transporting his body. The service was held in good weather at a very nice mausoleum which was better than the funeral home. The whole birth and death industries are complete scams. They put undue burdens on people who are already going through stress.

I always liked how my old church was open to members holding funerals in the auditorium. There was even a facility across the parking lot for meals.
From what I understand, this is the common practice in the more southern states.
