Daniel Chapter 3

Once again, a big episode : the king of Babylon builds a huge statue and asks everybody to worship it if they don’t want to be burn alive in a furnace. In this chapter, we are told about Daniel’s three companions who are brought in front of the king of Babylon : once again he asks them to worship the statue. Their answer is quite clear :
Daniel 3 :16-18 :
« Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. »
« If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. »
« But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. »
So the king asks the furnace to heat up at its maximum (seven times hotter than usual). The men who throw Daniel’s companions are killed by the flames of the fire. Then the king of Babylonia starts to be afraid because he sees four men in the furnace instead of three. As a consequence he asks the three men to go out of the furnace and he issues an order so that the people who speak against their God to be killed. Finally he promotes them.

Daniel is an incredible example of faith and of faithfulness. We are not told a lot about him. We know he kept faithful whatever may happen to him and he would keep praying God sincerely and with all his heart. He didn’t care about what other people would think. His excellent relationship with God was essential to him. In exchange, he was the only one to be able to interpret dreams. Thus, he was gifted. We aren’t told if he had a family with a wife and children. He would certainly develop a good communication with them and be a good example for them too. I would say a good role model.

How is it possible to get closer to faithfulness? By practicing it daily and studying the Bible regularly so it gets deeply into our mind and heart. But it means much more than just reading. We need to embed the best examples of faithfulness into our mind so we won’t forget them and they will keep being present forever. It is up to us. We need to be active and not passive, it is our job, not others’ job! Our future lies in our hands not in others’ hands!

A lot to think about !

Let's take a look at this again in Daniel and show how this past situation will become a future situation. Daniel 3: Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Keep the numbers in mind as move forward. Threescore cubits and six cubits

4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, 5that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: 6 and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

So when if we add those numbers up we get 666. Threescore and six cubits and six instrument.

Now let's go into the future and see something similar in Revelation 13: 11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

So the same kind of worship that happen in the past is similar to the future.

That's why when we read carefully the Bible and let it penetrate our mind and heart deeper and deeper in us we find lessons for our present time and for the near future! But if we don't pay attention at the words CAREFULLY, PENETRATE, MIND and HEART, DEEPER and DEEPER, we only find empty words from the past!

Let us understand that the word of God is truth, anything written in the word of God is be to learn and understood in truth. Jesus says in John 17: 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

So understanding the evil just as much as you want to understand the good it's all written in the word of God. But learn how to sanctified in the truth, learn this word of God from Genesis to Revelation, and be a doer of the word and not just a hearer.
