This is what my commentary says on the verse.
"Perhaps it is best to see the verse as an expression of Jeremiah's realization that God in His sovereign wisdom was allowing Judah and Jerusalem to cause their own destiny by believing their own lies, even though He continued to urge their repentance."

God doesn't lie. He has never lied. God is Holy and Just and Perfect. So knowing that look into those kinda verses in that light. Use discernment. Don't take verses out of context and try to pin point God on something. You can't do it. God is perfect. Have you considered maybe that your interpretation or outlook on the verse was flawed as opposed to God? Have you considered the fact that this is a man who has sinned (Although a prophet, Jeremiah, still a sinner) talking with an infinite Almighty God with his limited knowledge of Gods plan and will?

Jeremiah 4:10 Jeremiah said GOD lied. Why?
that is not what Jeremiah 4 : 10 says at all.

it helps if you read teh whole chapter and perhaps post the verses you are asking about...

Jeremiah 4

New King James Version (NKJV)

4 “If you will return, O Israel,” says the Lord,
“Return to Me;
And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight,
Then you shall not be moved.
2 And you shall swear, ‘The Lord lives,’
In truth, in judgment, and in righteousness;
The nations shall bless themselves in Him,
And in Him they shall glory.”

3 For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem:
“Break up your fallow ground,
And do not sow among thorns.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
And take away the foreskins of your hearts,
You men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,
Lest My fury come forth like fire,
And burn so that no one can quench it,
Because of the evil of your doings.”

5 Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem, and say:
“Blow the trumpet in the land;
Cry, ‘Gather together,’
And say, ‘Assemble yourselves,
And let us go into the fortified cities.’
6 Set up the standard toward Zion.
Take refuge! Do not delay!
For I will bring disaster from the north,
And great destruction.”
7 The lion has come up from his thicket,
And the destroyer of nations is on his way.
He has gone forth from his place
To make your land desolate.
Your cities will be laid waste,
Without inhabitant.
8 For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth,
Lament and wail.
For the fierce anger of the Lord
Has not turned back from us.

9 “And it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord,
“That the heart of the king shall perish,
And the heart of the princes;
The priests shall be astonished,
And the prophets shall wonder.”

10 Then I said, “Ah, Lord God!
Surely You have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem,
Saying, ‘You shall have peace,’
Whereas the sword reaches to the heart.”

In context you see the Jeremiah does not call God a liar but that for the people to have true peace they must be pierced in the heart and repent and cut away the foreskin of their heart that has harden them through pride and rebellion and adultery with other gods and idols.

Jeremiah is pointing out how that might be painful and not peaceful. It is repeated in these words in the New Testament:

Hebrews 12
11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

do seem to have quite a lot of questions. have you found a good Bible based church and talked to the pastor about taking some discipleship classes or attending BIble studies where the leader encourages questions?

I have a list of trusted Holy Spirit filled pastors I contact when in need of prayers or email to ask a few Biblical questions.

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

It doesn't say God lied, it says He deceived the people (deceive being, to intentionally trick or mislead somebody: to mislead or deliberately hide the truth from somebody).

I think perhaps the "Ye shall have peace" wasn't meant for the immediate future, but the people took it that way. It doesn't say "Ye shall have peace tomorrow" or "Ye shall have peace next year".

Like, if I told some kid I would buy them ice cream if they sat still in church, and they were like, "oh boy!" But after church I had them eat brussels sprouts first, they might say "You tricked me!".
