I agree a hundred percent if:

# Purity of heart intent is really pure, according to God's point of view;
# Grace is genuine;
# Pure motives are really pure;
# Love for God and neighbor is genuine.

As for the fourth paragraph I have doubts because a person who sins (I am referring to sins that lead to death) with "purity of heart" is probably being misguided or has never known the true Jesus.
Yes, Wise clarifications!

They were inferred, and I will try not to leave that open for interpretation.

As for the last part I was referring to a very minor oversight, but certainly not a sin that leads to death.

Thank You

You can not leave the part I bolded out. It does not say they stopped those sins it says they were washed and justified of those sins

Remember the urine added to water you can not purify the water god has to
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 New King James Version (NKJV)

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

The Lord Jesus suffered excruciating pain to wash our sins and we can't commit those listed above anymore. If we do we'll have to regret it bitterly and seek forgiveness. We can't count on God's forgiveness for recurrent sins that lead to death.

My friend, He died for every sin, Your trying to focus on a few sins.

Why will you refuse to acknowledge that ALL sin is just as hurtful and painful to God. And that your sin stinks just as bad as the sins those people committed?

Why are you trying to save yourself. And not allow God to save you?

This is so, and some who willfully sin slip hopelessly into apostacy:

Heb 6:4-6 NIV It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, (5) who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, (6) if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

In this state, many wish for repentance but cannot find it.

Good Morning and Greetings NayborBear,

Would you say that the Matthew account of The Rich Young Ruler is germane to what you are speaking about?

Mat 19:16-30 NIV Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" (17) "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." (18) "Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, "'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, (19) honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'" (20) "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" (21) Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." (22) When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. (23) Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. (24) Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." (25) When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?" (26) Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (27) Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?" (28) Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (29) And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. (30) But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Where Jesus was saying; "If you would be perfect" was He clarifying to the rich young man; you have secured your place in the "Kingdom of Heaven" but if you wish to attain to the "Kingdom of God" Here's the next step?

His disciples saw how many, or few others had "left all" to follow Jesus. One brother mentioned once how Jesus Himself would have been disciplined or kicked off most missionary posts for "inadequate results" when you look at how many He had at the end of His earthly ministry. So, it must have been devastating to consider the "smallness" of the "little flock" Luke 12:32 Perhaps two different callings?
And, G'mornin' and Hello to you as well, SimpleGardener!

Well??? Kinda! Yet, with a "deeper" description concerning the set of "goings on" at the spiritual "governmental" level/s.
Tis above my "paygrade" in this "show and tell", in the "showing" how!
I can just "tell." And, by my telling, show, in some small manner, that which happens, when a "sheep" grows up. Which, may well, be considered "born from above." When, being saved? Transitions to inheriting.
Which, is my hope, that this helps Usher in "the fullness of the gentiles."

To your 2nd question?
Could you explain these 2 different callings?

Ahh, My bad as usual,

I was referring to your observation on going from saved to an heir.

I interpret Jesus as saying to the rich young ruler, "If you would; Come up Higher", but his preoccupation with his wealth prevents him from making the necessary sacrifices, where many think he is simply lost.

Perhaps, not lost. Just relying a little to heavily that grace will save him? And when finding it won't? Makes him a very saddened young ruler? :)

Come on Dan, why the nit-picking. I don't think any of the law keepers on this forum look to the law for justification. That is just the strawman argument presented by those that don't keep the law. We are all saved by grace. Once saved, what we do afterwards is where we differ. Paul was speaking of a movement among the Jews for new gentile converts to be circumcised in Galatians 4 & 5:

Gal. 5:1-4 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."

Nobody, I know of, believes the part bolded above. Some of us still believe in serving the law in the newness of spirit: Rom. 7:6 "But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter."

It's always been about obedience. Christ paved the way for us to follow. He kept the law and claimed He will fulfill the law. Until all is fulfilled, not one jog or tittle shall pass from it. He is not done fulfilling yet.

Luke 6:46 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"

Psalms 1:1,2 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

I know what the law means to me. I do not know of everyone's opinion of the law, but it serves me well even if I cannot perform it. The Beatitudes were about defining the spiritual side of God's law not about doing away with them. We must keep them better rather than just in the letter. Hey, that rhymes. View attachment 201809
Hi Deade, nice to hear from you!

there has been talk on this thread of separating the moral law from the ceremonial and civil law. It is my position that this cannot be done by humans. As a way of showing the practical impossibility of this, I sometimes ask people if they keep this or that law, that is to say do they regard it as part of the moral law.

Since the law also speaks of not wearing a mixed stuff, the question about cotton and polyester naturally follows. Does this sound like nitpicking to you? How so? I believe in the law it also tells us to talk about the law throughout our day. What better way to talk about it?

if a person says that they can separate out the moral laws from the other kinds in the law of Moses, and that they try to keep the letter of those moral laws, then to me it seems like a great question to ask. Do you, personally, mix linen and wool? Or cotton and polyester?

I think it's interesting too, that people are extremely reluctant to even attempt to give a written account of these moral laws. Jewish people seem very willing to list the 613 laws that they traditionally see. I would think it wouldn't be that hard to simply start with that list and cross off the stuff that you think is a ceremonial or civil law. Or just start with the scriptures and starting maybe at Mount Sinai copy and paste every verse that is a moral law.

Do you attempt to keep the letter of the law? If so, do you have a written copy of those letters?

Yes, I am a keeper of the law. I follow the law. I am a law keeper. I do this because I believe the words of the Lord Jesus Christ when
He said:
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The first covenant had to be "removed" to make room for the 2nd. The Law, which was written in stone, and had to be followed 'PERFECTLY'. If it wasn't there was no way into heaven.

But Jesus CHANGED all that.
Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat this is my body
And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

I keep the law, that law that I find glorious. I teach to keep the law and I repent, and my sins are forgiven, His blood shed washes me clean. And I progress towards perfection.

THE LAW was and still is good. The Law describes for us who GOD is. WHAT He is about and What He is looking for in us. How do WE please HIM.
Sin was forgiven through a blood sacrifice. There were many statutes and ordinances that had to be performed. There were Priests that had to perform those duties. They also were the ones who spoke to God for us. The whole process took lots of time. You stayed in that state of sin until it was accomplished. If you have never read and studied these, YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT GRACE REALLY IS and what all that means to you today.

What is Sin? Sin is transgression of the Law. When Jesus said He came to fulfill the law, and the prophets He did just that. He walked the perfect life, He fulfilled. All prophecy in the prophets concerning the coming Messiah, He fulfilled.

Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
The old covenant, could not do what Jesus will do.
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. But the Blood of the Lord does.
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, He saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. (REPENTANCE still alive and well)
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Above when He said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law (REPENTANCE still hanging in there)
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.(I qualify under this just the same)
And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool.
For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.(That would be me too!)
Whereof the Holy Spirit also is a witness to us for after that He had said before,
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them (They become a part of me, and I love it)
And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.(Forgive me Father)
Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.(And I can repent, and repent and repent and never ever again will an animal sacrifice be needed to be washed clean)

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets

THE OLD IS NOT DESTROYED, HERE IS WHERE JESUS TELLS US they hang. HE ALREADY TOLD US HE DIDN'T COME TO DESTROY. THERE FORE IT IS AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. AND I WILL FOLLOW IT WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. AND IF I BREAK ONE I HAVE BROKEN THE LAW, BUT IT IS NO LONGER UNTO DEATH.

FOR ME TO BELIEVE IT IS UNTO DEATH, I WOULD HAVE TO BEILIEVE JESUS A LIAR.

I don't believe Jesus is a liar, do you?

This is how Jesus taught us to pray, OUR DAILY BREAD OUR DAILY FORGIVENESS.
And After this manner therefore pray ye,
Our Father, which are in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom come Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven Give us this day, (what day ??? )our daily bread, and FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS as we forgive our debtors and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever Amen
Hi!

When you say you are a keeper of the law, do you mean the letter of the law? Or do you mean something more like you follow the leading of the spirit, and sometimes the spirit leads you to follow the letter of the law, and other times the spirit leads you to follow a modified version of the law?

If it's following the leading of the spirit, I would hope that's what all Christians are doing! I think that's what Christians have done throughout the centuries. Not of course those who are Christians in name only, but those who serve and sincerity of heart.

The penalty of sin is death - God

ALL sin leads to death my friend, Unless GRACE is active
All sin leads to death and that's why we need a savior, but after being cleansed by this savior we can't repeat some sins. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Paul says that people who commit certain kinds of sin will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

If all sins were equal Paul would not have listed the sins above; instead, he would have written: "Sinners will not inherit the Kingdom of God".

Does the blood of Jesus wash away our sins? Is salvation a gift to whomsoever would? If I accept the same gifts and I receive the same salvation, and sanctification and faith and, righteousness and justification that YOU DO, and all sins are forgiven at baptism and we are all a new creature at that point AND FOREVER NEVER TO HAVE SALVATION TAKEN AWAY, WHY are YOU judging what you PERCEIVE are my sins to be?

I am following the law OF GOD. GODS LAW. not out murdering. Yet if I was out murdering IN YOUR EYES I WOULD BE JUST FINE FOREVER BECAUSE ALL MY SINS WERE FORGIVEN AND I COULD NEVER LOSE MY SALVATION,

BUT LET ME FOLLOW GODS LAW, AND REPENT FOR MY SINS, AND THAT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO ME?.

SERIOUSLY, THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE SELLING. CAUSE I AINT BUYING. WHAT HAPPENED TO NOT JUDGING ANOTHER MANS SERVANT?

WHEN DID TEACHING GODS LAW BECOME A DEATH OFFENCE? WITH THE NEW COVENANT THAT CHANGED ALL THAT? IS IT BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS SINS ARE FORGIVEN? BUT KEEPING GODS LAW PUTS ME INTO AN UNFORGIVEN CATAGORY?

The proud have digged pits for me which are not after thy law
All thy commandments are faithful, they persecute me wrongfully help thou me
They had almost consumed me upon earth but I forsook not thy precepts
Quicken me after thy lovingkindness so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth
Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven
Thy faithfulness is unto all generations, thou hast established the earth and it abideth
They continue this day according to thine ordinances for all are thy servants
Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction
I will never forget thy precepts for with them thou hast quickened me
I am thine save me, for I have sought thy precepts
The wicked have waited for me to destroy me but I will consider thy testimonies
I have seen an end of all perfection but thy commandment is exceeding broad
O how I love thy law!!! it is my meditation all the day
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are ever with me
I have more understanding than all my teachers for thy testimonies are my meditation
I understand more than the ancients because I keep thy precepts
I have refrained my feet from every evil way tat I might keep thy word
I have not departed from thy judgments for thou hast taught me
How sweet are thy words unto my taste!!! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth
Through thy precepts I get understanding therefore I hate every false way
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
I have sworn and I will perform it that I will keep thy righteous judgments
I am afflicted very much quicken me O LORD according unto thy word
Accept I beseech thee the freewill offerings of my mouth O LORD and teach me thy judgments
My soul is continually in my hand yet do I not forget thy law
The wicked have laid a snare for me yet I erred not from thy precepts
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever for they are the rejoicing of my heart
I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes always even unto the end
I hate vain thoughts but thy law do I love
Hi DeighAnn,

I'm sad if you feel that people have dug a pit for you, or are trying to trap you.

I sense for some nice folks that they have dug a pit for themselves. It is my hope that I can throw down a rope or something. Sometimes we get surrounded with things from our mind, surround ourselves, and it's not until we try to explain it to other people, explain how these things work, that we can see that the edges of the pit that we are in are starting to crumble away and we are free.

That's one reason why I ask people to explain things in detail sometimes.

Well Dan, I don't propose to understand all of the 613 ordinances that God put forth. That is why we meditate on those. Applying the law spiritually, I ask myself why was this or that one was instigated originally. Mixing fabric I have not figured out yet. One ordinance was not to pull out some parts of the grain in the cereal crops. We now know that is healthier, not doing that. But I still use white flour occasionally and I don't think of it as sinful. The same as mixing fabric is not sinful. We do not have to keep the law.

I feel the Spirit guiding me to understand His reasons for the ordinances. Usually it is for our own good not just something to stumble at.

Everyone is super quick to dismiss the laws since we are saved by grace. But I find reference to the Commandments throughout the New Testament. Our traditions are the biggest obstacles to learning from the Holy Spirit. Paul says the law is good, just and holy (Rom. 7:12). That was enough for me, but I don't expect to be able to do it perfectly, thank God for grace. :D

Even the Torah made provisions for "Unintentional Sins"
Yep it did

4 Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the Lord in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them, 3 if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord for his sin which he has sinned a young bull without blemish as a sin offering. 4 He shall bring the bull to the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and kill the bull before the Lord. 5 Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it to the tabernacle of meeting. 6 The priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the Lord, in front of the veil of the sanctuary. 7 And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord, which is in the tabernacle of meeting; and he shall pour the remaining blood of the bull at the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 8 He shall take from it all the fat of the bull as the sin offering. The fat that covers the entrails and all the fat which is on the entrails, 9 the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the flanks, and the fatty lobe attached to the liver above the kidneys, he shall remove, 10 as it was taken from the bull of the sacrifice of the peace offering; and the priest shall burn them on the altar of the burnt offering. 11 But the bull’s hide and all its flesh, with its head and legs, its entrails and offal— 12 the whole bull he shall carry outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with fire; where the ashes are poured out it shall be burned.

Notice, that even unintentional sin had a part of its penalty the shedding of blood, Or DEATH.

So the thought that just intentional sin causes death is a thought not found in scripture.

Plus as moses said, Whoever does not OBEY EVERY WORD is under a curse. He did not say unless it was unintentional or it was an accidental sin (ps, there is no such thing)
