Nothing in scripture declares we don't have second chances, or that death means we cannot repent or change our minds. We get thousands upon thousands of chances everytime we sin and repent. Its a constant process.

It doesn't denote that at all. The rich man was not allowed to contact the living. No where are we told the rich man repented. Perhaps he did when Christ brought the gospel there. I know God is fair and will not destroy those who repent and follow Christ.

Do you have any scriptures (apart from the "preached to the spirits in prison" - which does not say that these spirits had a chance to repent at the preaching and DOES NOT say who these spirits are) which DO say dead unbelievers have a second chance to be saved?

What about at the time of the Great White Throne. Revelation 20:13-14 says:

"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire"

Death and Hades!!! Interesting! So the spirits in prison (if they were souls and not demons) are still there!.

What does it say? They had no chance to repent but were ALL thrown into the Lake of Fire. All those who had rejected Jesus as Messiah and died were in death and Hades and immediately after being judged were thrown in the L of F. Think about that!

It does tell us who they were...it was the people in Noahs time and done through his preaching, these peoples spirits were in prison when Jesus
was dead.

1 offering them a second chance.....................................contradicts other scripture
2 the Spirit that quickenned Christ from the dead was the Spirit in Noah who preached to those who are now in prison.......fits well with scripture
3 sometime between Christs 3 days in the grave and ressurrection He announced His victory and their doom to the spirits of preflood folk.............unlikely story

Hi Abiding

The quote below WAS previously badly written. I have now modified it to avoid misunderstanding of what I wrote.

Do you have any scriptures which DO say dead unbelievers have a second chance to be saved? Please do not quote the passage that says "preached to the spirits in prison" -because that passage does not say that these spirits had a chance to repent at the preaching and DOES NOT categorically say who these spirits are, anyway, but it does refer to the preaching in Noah's day.

There is only one reason to preach the gospel to the dead. There are no scriptures that say God cannot save those that died the first death. To even suggest God is limited in such a way is ridiculous.

There will always be some there. It's not as if everyone that hears the gospel accepts it.

So? On judgment day the judgment is final and set. Repentance should have occurred long before that.

I actually asked if you could show me ANY CLEAR CUT verses of scripture that CLEARLY convey that God gives second chances to those who die after rejecting Jesus throughout their lives.

Another request, are there any scriptures that say there are second chances for those who died in the OT who lived unrighteous/ungodly lives?

I can give you various verses thyat speak the opposite, ie that there are NO second chances:

"it is appointed for a man to die ONCE and then the judgement" I showed you that Revelation tells us that all souls in death and hades (the unrighteous) are resurrected to IMMEDIATELY face judgement without possibility of repenting. Jesus told us that those like the rich man in hades will not be given a second chance.

Here is another verse "the soul that sins will die" Ezekiel 18:24-29

"But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them he will die. Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ Hear now, O house of Israel! Is My way not right? Is it not your ways that are not right? When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and dies because of it, for his iniquity which he has committed he will die. Again, when a wicked man turns away from his wickedness which he has committed and practices justice and righteousness, he will save his life. Because he considered and turned away from all his transgressions which he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. But the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ Are My ways not right, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are not right?"

This was taken under the Old Covenant so does not apply in the same way for the New Covenant but because we are discussing those in Hades BEFORE the NT, we need to see if they had second chances. This is why I quote from the OT.

I find it clear cut.

"it is appointed for a man to die ONCE and then the judgement"
If you are right, and you are not, everyone that dies faces judgment right then and there...that isnt the case....we die and eventually we face judgment
