Ok, I am in class and here is our discussions.

In the History of Christianity, What happened to the Sprit?
Namely between 100 AD to 1800 AD

Was Healing and Speaking in Tongues an every day thing or just a sporadic occurance?

Were the gifts manifested and not documented or were the Book of ACTS accounts the ONLY times those things happened?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
part 2

Were the Apostles/Disciples The only ones able to perform healings and miracles or were all people able to do these things as well.

OR did the converted people have that same power after watching and learning from the original 12.

ok thats enough for now.. we are still doing some discussion but i dont wanna get too deep here....AND if im out of line let me know (with the questions)

I was raised the the gifts; tongues and prophecy has ceased But no longer believe this. But through all my study, it wasn't until I was baptised in or with the Spirit baptism. that I was really convinced , But let me sum this up for you It all comes down to how you intrepret these verses.

1co 13:8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.1co 13:9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.1co 13:10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

The Bible clearly says that tongues will cease and prophecy will fail BUT verse 10 says when they will cease and fail. some says when He came as a babe or even at pentecost was when that which is perfect is come. However we have to rule both of these out for we have both Prophecy and tongues ( God Inspired) all through the New Testament after His birth and even after pentecost. So some will say that when we receive His Word or the manuscripts of the Bible< but I rather believe that the perfect one was not referring to the Bible, for even John said that not everything was recorded in the scriptures, so we still only know in part. So this leaves me to believe that " that which is perfect comes is not when Jesus came at birth or when the Holy Spirit came at pentecost, or even His Holy Bible was completed but rather that which is perfect is come, is referring to when He comes at the last day as King of kings, so if we can belive this then we also believe that these two gifts have not ceased or failed yet, also Joel chapter 2

Joe 2:28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:Joe 2:29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.Joe 2:30And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.Joe 2:31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.Joe 2:32And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Notice your daughters will prophesy, and the moon will be turned into blood , this is the very last day . or turn this dortine( on these two gifts has ceased and been done away with) upside down , if prophecy has been done away with, then how will their sons and daughters prophesy in the last days

and then at pentecost peter quoted Joel

Ac 2:16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;Ac 2:17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:Ac 2:18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:Ac 2:19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:Ac 2:20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:Ac 2:21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

But some will say that since peter said that this was joel's prophecy coming about then it was fulfilled at pentecost , however if it was fulfilled then all was done and the moon has already turned to blood, which just can't be true, for verse 31 said that this would happen before that great and notable day of ther Lord come, so my vote is yes we even have to consider Spirit baptism for it was John the Baptist and Jesus Himself that said John merely Baptizes with water But Jesus said I will baptise with the Holy Ghost and Fire then Paul said in acts
Ac 19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,Ac 19:2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.Ac 19:3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.Ac 19:4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.Ac 19:5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Ac 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Hpoe this has been a help to all and My vote is yes will still have the Spirit given powers and gifts to those that believe in thses things

1co 14:39Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
