Some doctrines teach that Christ's sacrifice covered all sins: past, present and future. Thus, no need to repent more than once; that is, when you're saved. But that's not what the New Testament teaches. When you're saved, all your past sins are forgiven but we in no wise become perfect people. We have to continually confess our sins and repent of them.
When you say we HAVE to continually confess our sins, that statement throws me off or,do you mean we will have a desire to confess our sins but If we forget to confess a couple that that will not effect our salvation?

There are those that want to make the Lord Yeshua be crucified over and over for our sins.

For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit; 1 Peter 3:8

the fruit of the Holy Spirit is something that is cultivated in a person's life. they are not gifted as the gifts of the Holy Spirit

a person does not suddenly have meekness, peace and gentleness, although some are naturally like that. we develop the fruits of the spirit much the same way you could say a fruit tree develops the fruit on it's branches...the fruit does not suddenly appear one day
But spiritually It's suddenly, but It should now physically be displayed/cultivated outwardly.

Romans 12:1-2
King James Version

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

uh ... no that is not so. the possibility exists, but it is not bestowed as is salvation

what is right now, in the moment and all at once, is our 'position' in Christ, meaning our standing before God

before God, we are perfect as is His Son and sinless.....that is our position and the ONLY reason we can come before God at all

are you able to portray all the fruit of character of Christ? like I said, fruit grows and it grows as we follow Christ and are led by the Spirit of God. Spiritual gifts are another story but they also must be cultivated and not taken for granted or used to advance any single person's standing in a congregation

I'm saying a genuine believer will have a desire to repent of sins and confess them; but I'm also saying it's necessary for our salvation. I have a feeling that's where your questioning is going so I'll just put it out there. But before you even say it, this is not works-based salvation; it's salvation because we are obedient children.

I'm not saying if we neglect to confess that we "stole" a penny that was laying on the sidewalk we'll lose our salvation. But I am saying if we turn our back on Him, and act like we no longer have to repent of sin, then there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. A one-time prayer of confession and repentance does not cover all sins past, present and future. This is ridiculous and leads a person into all kinds of false teaching.

If we sin against a brother, were supposed to make amends with them, so I dont se why sinning against God would be any different.

With respect to our salvation- personally I think sin that goes unaddressed in prayer can harden your heart- even if its sin that we overlook and dont know about.

When you pray, pray in this fashion

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name.... you know the rest. Forgive our trespasses as we forgive trespasses against us...

Right? Were supposed to be asking the lord to show us what were doing wrong and help us fix it. I think not doing that can gradually kill your faith. We're supposed to be using our heavenly treasure- faith, and understanding- but if we don't employ that which we have, it can get taken away, and we end up like the servant that gets thrown into the outer darkness.

Do you believe that repentance and confession have different meanings for a christian after salvation In respect to
1 John 1:9
King James version

9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
i just mean their almost repenting before they commit sin like their in love with god.

Is there a difference between repentance and confession for a Christian?
Confession seems like it's about a relationship with God. If we forgiveness of sins could have came through confession rather than a grueling crucifixion then it seems like Jesus suffered unnecessarily.

In short, the crucifixion forgives our sins permanently when we repent we accept that sacrifice in faith. The confession of being a sinner in general and confessing specific sins seems like it's about having a relationship with God.

I think of it like a son may offend his father, but he isn't disowned, his father is just upset. His son should ask for forgiveness and if he doesn't then his father could discipline him. Or maybe he will be disciplined any way.

Do you believe Christ died for our sins as the gospel of your salvation ?

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

For you to be saved you must believe this gospel alone for salvation.

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

I agree that fruit grows physically but, spiritually at the moment of conversion all the fruit Is there. It just needs to be cultivated.

I believe that a one time genuine repentance Is all that Is necessary for Salvation but after salvation confessing sins Is not necessary to maintain salvation, but the believer will confess sins after Salvation that they have committed for good conscience sake to GOD.

Can a person believe the gospel get saved then commit a couple of sins and not confess them and still be saved?

@Hann57,

Do you believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ?

If not, who is the Christ in your opinion?

I think this scripture Is talking about coming to CHRIST and not talking about a person needs to continually ask to be forgiven after salvation.
This is the false teaching from Hyper-Grace teachers and it can be very easily refuted.

1. Q. Are the epistles of John written to believers or unbelievers?
A. To believers only. Thus they are called "little children" and "my brethren".

2. Q. How do we know that the first epistle of John is for believers?
A. Only believers can have fellowship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and other believers, and the first chapter speaks of this fellowship.

3. Q. Can believers sin after they are saved?
A. Yes they can, and none are sinlessly perfect.

4. Q. Does John tell believers who deny that they sin that they deceive themselves and make God a liar?
A. Absolutely. And that is why they must confess and repent of their present sins.

As you will note, Christian Chat does not encourage Hyper-Grace false teachings.

I know that there Is the book by John that says

1 John 1:9
King James Version
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I chose other. Because salvation is not the legalistic work of continual seeking of forgiveness. It was paid once and for all.

So seeking forgiveness after salvation has nothing to do with salvation but everything to do with relationship.

It is in the act of repentance and personal acknowledgment that you have strayed away from God. It is you aligning yourself back within the proper connection of a healthy relationship.

What happens if a person falls out of a healthy relationship and refuses to "realign?"

Well I am not a Calvinist and believe in free will. I believe the scriptures that speak on the warnings of falling away and apostasy. I believe it is possible for people to taste of forgiveness but can walk away.

We also have scriptures on lukewarm Christians.
