Satan (Death) has reign on the earth until Jesus had fulfilled the covenant which mean that He had paid the price and now we are in his debt from delivering us from satan (Death). Once we violate the laws, we has become the property of death. So now Jesus had paid the price and now we are under new terms, but not under the terms that we cannot keep because we are imperfect and which it lead to death, but under terms that will improve us (With assistance) which leads us to life. .
You must not change scripture in any way. Satan is Satan, and his description is not "death". We must not give as fact what isn't in scripture. God reigns on earth, Satan is trying to take over, God will win. When you say Jesus fulfilled the covenant, it isn't quite accurate and we must be accurate. Christ fulfilled what was told of him in the OT, using blood of animals as a symbol of Christ, needing the temple and now we are the temple, etc. Christ delivers us from death through the forgiveness of sins. God is eternal, not new. There are things that are new, but we need to be precise in our understanding of just what is new and what is eternal. It cannot be our reasoning or common sense, but God who says so, and we are not to add or subtract from God.

With this imprecise thinking we have stopped setting up boundaries of sin, so satan is running loose in our streets. We aren't identifying sin and standing firm with "that is sin". Talk to a man who has performed an exorcism. Ask in any police department if they find signs of the occult when they investigate crime. Ask the little girls who are pregnant. Just look around you.

Well said RedTent.

Do you believe there will be a future period of a thousand years in which Satan is locked up in the Abyss?

Scripture seems to say so, but it is my belief that when all these prophecies happen the actual way they unfold will make us all say "Oh, THAT is what God meant." I don't think it is important for us to speculate on the particulars. However, I do think God is working today for a change in our church, just as there was a change in around 1500. Then, there was the start of the protestants, the printing press, America was being colonized. Now ancient languages are being read, we can see prophecy happening, we have been horrified by the holocaust, and finally the Jewish ideas of worship and the gentile is sometimes meeting so some are including God the Father and His principles as part of our church. I think we should address and pray about this and learn all we can about it.

Is that you sitting on that wonderful mountain looking over such beautiful scenery?

Preterists usually take one word, "bound," and explain how Satan has been bound by the gospel, since we can now realize Jesus Christ and accept the Holy Spirit. That is absolutely true, Satan has been bound in that sense. But that is not what Revelation 20 is saying:

He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. (Revelation 20:2)

Can a preterist reconcile the last sentence? Will we, for a short time, lose the ability to realize Jesus Christ and accept the gospel? No.

Revelation 20:1-3 is literal and future. Satan will be locked up in the Abyss for a thousand years, and then he will be set free for a short time.
i am not a preterist

but if you look at revelation 20:2...it says that satan is bound 'to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore'...so that is the nature of his binding...he is no longer able to deceive the nations...

you might argue that satan has deceived many people nowdays...but the bible makes a distinction between 'the nations' and individuals...for example you have israel being blinded nationally but jews can still be saved individually...satan can deceive individuals but he cannot deceive 'the nations'

at some point in the future...probably coinciding with the end time 'great tribulation'...satan will be unbound and free to deceive the nations again...

It also says he is thrown into the Abyss, yet Peter warns "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

I haven't heard this before, but yeah I guess that would be the best preterist argument: Satan has been locked up in the Abyss to keep him from deceiving nations, but he is still able to deceive individuals. It's a stretch, and I don't think it's right.

I think Peter tells us simply that Satan is here today. John tells us about a future thousand-year period in which Satan will be locked up in the Abyss.

Hi houly, I was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y. hospital 6,26,43, I lived in Chestertown for most of 65 yrs, We would climb the mountain behind our house and sit on the ledge and look over Friends lk. and loon lk. up to Gore mt ski trails, You are making me home sick. I pastored the Adirondack Bible church,Union church, for over 20 yrs. I believe Satan is still doing His evil work on this earth. His head will not be crushed until the end of this earth. He is bound up for the 1,000 yrs of Christ peace on earth; Satan will then be set free to deceive the nations once again, and then casted into the lake of fire, forever. The wicked dead will be raised after the 1,000yrs and casted into the lake of fire. The book of rev. is all history in symbolic, figurative language. I am a futurist, except, I believe the first 5 seals are church history and the 6th seal is the rapture of the church. The trumpets and the bowls are the wrath of God during the last half of the 70th wk. of Daniel. The only people going into the Millennium are the unsaved of earth, the Church of all ages will rule with Christ 1,000 yrs. Lovw to all, Hoffco
