For those who say that when we come to Christ we become perfect, that is not biblical. Let us read the words of Jesus in Mark 10:17-22.
Mark 10:17-22
[SUP]17 [/SUP]As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
[SUP]18 [/SUP]“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. [SUP]19 [/SUP]You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[SUP][d][/SUP]”
[SUP]20 [/SUP]“Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
[SUP]22 [/SUP]At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
What is Jesus saying here? First of all he took acception to the man calling him a good teacher, the reason was because back then a rabbi was called a teacher but never good teacher, one can see this in the interaction Jesus had with the Pharisees. Anyway, onto what I was going to say. Jesus said that no one is good except God alone. So if no one can be good except God and if no one can be perfect except God, therefore the perfection that will have and will come to pass will only take place when after we have followed God and some time die, then we will be perfect as he is perfect. That command on earth that he gave is a model that we cannot achieve all the way on earth, it can only be achieved in heaven, when we know more things than we do on earth, etc. This what is called the glorification process. For now on this earth when one comes to Christ regeneration occurs (whether slow or fast and is continual), sanctification (which occurs everyday), and then glorification is the final step which occurs when a Christian dies and ultimately is perfect. Think about it, when one dies and goes to heaven instead of just being on earth, it will be easier to follow God since there will be no obstacles, struggles, etc we have to face. That is where perfection, for now all anyone can do as a Christian is follow God and his two commandments of loving Him with all our being *heart, soul, mind, and strength) and loving others as ourselves. Through that we continue to mature, but this maturing will be all the way complete when we die. The passages people use for this perfection on earth doctrine whatever version one uses are not tenable, biblical, and assume that we can save ourselves and that we do not need God, will not make mistakes, will not sin(follow the flesh nature left over), and will not stumble in our walk with Christ. This type of teaching deserves to be thrown into the garbage and everyone must confront one who is in error quietly, technologically, etc this person face-to-face, chatperson to chatperson, etc. If they don't listen after a few times, ignore them and ask God to help that person realize they are wrong, if they are indeed wrong and not you. God bless.
