So I was on the internet and searching about graven images and so on and so forth, when I stumbled into this very interesting article. It was about the 2nd Commandment God had given to Moses: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Exodus 20:3-5 and Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. (Lev. 26:1)
If someone was to say that a stuffed animal,or a doll,is a graven image,or idol, then the same could apply to bicycles, motorcycles, hotwheels racing track, train set, chemistry set, easy bake oven,or anything else that a child has fun playing with, and enjoys.

Those are not graven images,or idols, which when God said to not make an image of anything in heaven,or on earth,or in the sea,the key thing is He said do not bow down and worship those images.

Do you bow down to the Almighty teddy bear and worship, does a boy bow down to the Lord train set and worship.

God is pointing out to not make a graven image,or idol, and make it out to be deity,an entity higher than man, that they look up to,and reverence.

It would not apply to children's toys, for they are young and having fun,not looking at them as an entity higher than people that they must bow down to and give reverence.

Of course some people will say if something that takes the time of people that they do quite frequently,or material things ,and money, and not paying attention to God like they should,is an idol, but to me that is worldliness, and not necessarily an idol, for they are not giving reverence to those activities,as an entity, although they like them and take too much time with them.

In the second commandment God says the purpose of the graven image and idol,is that they make it out to be deity and worship that deity by the idol.

Although the Bible does say that money can be a master of people, which God said you cannot serve money, and God,but even then although they love that money more than God,is still does not apply to the second commandment where they bow down to worship a deity,by the idol, like the god Chemosh,or any other god they make an idol to honor that god.

Not to sound harsh but that's just legalistic. You could find something bad about most things if you looked at it like that. You are not worshiping the dolls.

On the other hand if your life evolved around your collection of dolls, or anything else, and you felt you couldn't live without them, then would be idolatrous. You aren't worshiping them but are putting them right up there around first place in your life.

These days people are more likely to worship their car, their house, a celebrity etc.

Okay, thank you!

And I really know that this is getting off-topica Poptropica (game referenced, lol!) but most Catholics I know don't pray to Mary or the Saints, they simply ask through Christ for them to pray for us here on Earth. Just a little clarification for the common misconception Christians have against Catholics. It's like sending a message from Earth to Heaven with the "mailman" being Christ. They just ask the Lord to send the message to Mary and the saints (but they still pray to only God, though!) :)
Hello! And belated welcome.

I'm sorry, I must address this post of yours.

I went to catholic school and know what they do and believe. Thwe "hail Mary" is a direct prayer to Mary to intercede on our behalf. I can post the words here if you like.
Also, I have catholic friends and relatives that pray to a whole host of "saints". One prays to one every time she loses something. Another prays to, and buries a statue in a yard that she wants to sell the house quickly. The list goes on.
I pray you have put your hope of Salvation in CHRIST ALONE, and do not pray to these other entities.

Photographs could be seen as craven images. Should we all stop taking holiday snaps and throw our cameras away?
As I said in an earlier post if we followed the OT to the letter we would all end up in prison.

Oh, alright then. Of course, I only put my hope in Salvation in Christ (God) only, don't need to worry about me ;)
Still, thanks for the info!

I have stuffed animals, cat knickknacks, ladybug figurines, even a poster of John Stamos..lol.. But I don't worship them, or bow down to them and say prayers to them.. As far as having pictures of God, well I have a couple of those also, but they're basically to decorate my walls.

Actually, it's not about praying to Mary, it's about praying to God so that God would send the message to her and she'd consider praying for us to the Lord. That's it.
(Plus, she isn't dead, I mean she did accept Jesus as the Savior, so I don't find a reason for her not to go to Heaven!)
But, since you said so... I'll think about it.
Ummm, God IS the Lord. And since we are supposed to pray DIRECTLY to Jesus, WHY do we need to pray to Mary, who IS dead, AND IS NOT an intermediary to Jesus for us? Surely Mary went to heaven, but she IS indeed dead. Jesus Christ is our ONLY intermediary to God through prayer. Mary does not and cannot answer prayers. She may be able to hear them, but she is NOT the one allowed to answer them.

Huh? I never said that we should pray to Mary. I only said that we pray to Lord and ask for him to send the message to Mary so that she would consider praying for us, but... nevermind. 'scuse me, I'm just talking rubbish, lol.

Now, I'm even more confused. You speak about doing more research, but how much more can you do in the 2-3mins since I posted? Also, God doesn't want us to make graven images at all. He doesn't want us to worship images of Him. Moses and King Solomon and their artisans created images to be used as aids in the worship of God, nothing more.
So does that mean that people shouldn't make (draw, paint, whatever) or keep pictures of God? I have one that the Mormon missionaries gave me back in 1991. I kind of want to get rid of it, but I feel sacreligious throwing Jesus into the dumpster..lol

Yeah, there are very few on this site who will believe in that. Once you start talking about Mary in any capacity as you have then expect it to be countered.
