Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power after that the holy Spirit is come upon you . . . .

Power - dunamis - strength power, ability A. inherent power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth; verb - dunamai - to be able to do something; to be capable

Jesus told his disciples to "wait for the promise of the Father" because "John truly baptized with water" but that they "would be baptized with the Holy Spirit" and with that receiving of the holy Spirit - they would "receive power" to become witnesses. I submit that we also when we are born again and receive the holy Spirit that we receive that "same" power. It is inherent meaning that it lies within that gift of holy spirit and is energized by God through our faith in Jesus Christ.

Acts 3:12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people - Ye men of Israel why marvel ye at this? or why look you so earnestly on us as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk. Peter was trying to get the people's eyes off him and to the true power that had made the man whole . . .And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom you see and know: . . . It was the name of Jesus Christ, the man's faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the holy Spirit that made the man strong or whole. That same Spirit lies within each born again believer. We seem to live so below par (I include myself) . . . Through the power of the holy Spirit we should be able to do the things Jesus Christ did - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. John 14:12 Were the apostles any better than us? Did they have "more faith" than us? I don't think these apply because God gave to every man the measure of faith and God is no respecter of persons. It makes me sad . . . just think how we could effect the world if we truly relied and realized the power we have within us through the holy Spirit!

Paul said he didn't use enticing words of man's wisdom but he determined to know nothing save Jesus Christ and him crucified and that his preaching was in demonstration of the Spirit and of power and that our faith should stand in that same power - the power of God. 1 Co. 2:4,5 Do we not also know Jesus Christ and him crucified? Where is our demonstration of the Spirit and of the power that dwells within that gift given us? Our trust and our reliance - our faith stands by the power of God.

And what is the exceeding greatness of his (God's via the holy Spirit) power (dunamis - inherent power) to us-ward who believe according to the working of God's mighty power [kratos- 1)force, strength; 2)power, might, mighty with great power, a work of power] My, my, my - look at this - what is the EXCEEDING GREATNESS of the power He has given us and it is according to the work of HIS great mighty power! This inherent power is according to the working - ACTIVE WORKING of God's almighty power -

And look at this one: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. It is God which puts forth power that energizes the holy Spirit within you both to will [to intend, to desire, to love to do a thing] and to do - to be energized to utilize that power towards HIS good pleasure. It is God working within the hearts of believers to LOVE to do the things that PLEASE HIM!!!!!

My prayer for you all - That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of christ, which passeth knowledge that you might be filled with all the fulness of God. NOW UNTO HIM THAT IS ABLE TO DO EXCEEDING ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL WE ASK OR THINK ACCORDING TO THE POWER THAT WORKETH IN US . . .

That gift of holy Spirit within us is considered a treasure: But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us. (2 Co. 4:7) Our faith, our stand, our walk, our obedience, our trust is all in the power of God - not of us. Can we do anything to make ourselves better, to make ourselves good, without the power God has given us through his gift of Holy Spirit? That is the power we must draw from and that it the power that causes us to stand.

Hope this makes some kind of sense - sometimes it's hard putting things together in words that you hope will be understandable to others . . . . God bless.

P.S. Oh my gosh - I didn't realize this was so long . . . :)

P.S.S. Did you know carelessly saying "Oh my God" is taking the name of the Lord thy God in vain?

You know I have been thinking sort of along the same lines. You see I have for a while now wanted to heal people, I believe fully in his power and I have the faith required. Granted I dont use the strength of my faith I rely totally on him. basically I dont pray for a person to be healed and fully believe I received an answer and the person is healed I instead hand over the faith I have to God and let him work his magic so to speak.

Trust me with just a tiny bit of faith there isnt anything God and I cannot do, i could easily heal easily walk on water easily call upon Gods power and make fireballs rain from the sky. That is how much I believe in him how powerful he is and how epic things we can do with just a tiny bit of faith. But I am unable to do any of these things, I know that if he only wills it yes him and I could easily do these things but either I have not been given the permission yet, it isnt his will or perhaps I have to do this with the strength of my faith by believing I have recieved what I asked for.

Idk, I wonder why i cant do these things but no one has been able to give me a good answer

Thank you for responding.

I think it is fear and doubt that keeps us from being all that we can be. I will admit I have wanted to lay my hands upon someone and pray for their healing - but I then let that little nag of doubt - what if they don't get healed and I think it is because I expect immediate results as in a "miracle" but the healing can sometimes happen in God's time and not mine!

Doubt and fear can defeat the promises of God! God says: For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us [2 Cor. 1:20] - we say "maybe". :)

Perhaps I am doing it wrong then. I will pray and use the faith I have and the belief I have in him and whatever I am lacking in I just say hey I will hand over the little faith I have and let God do the rest instead of praying for healing and believing fully I have received it. So maybe I need to be able to ask and know I have received. There are occasions when I feel compelled to try to heal, there was this one time I was in severe pain and felt compelled to heal myself. Something happened that is unusual for me, all doubt was Gone no worry and I layed my hand on my leg and it was as if my hand was actually Jesus hand.
However I wasnt healed, I felt a small soothing tingle but I wasnt healed. and sometimes when I am on cc I see a person in need of love and put my hand on the screen and try to pour Gods love into them through the internet. lol not the most classical way of doing things but so far none have worked

It's not us who does the healing but God.

When anything brings glory to a human being and not to God, I doubt its veracity.

"I" can heal or "I " can do something sounds like God is some power source to be summoned.

When miracles were performed by the Apostles, it was always in the name of Jesus. Everything is to bring HIM glory and not us.

God can use anyone or anything to achieve His purposes. I think the goal is to seek the kingdom of God not power.

I wasn't meaning that we should "seek" power. You are right concerning healing - although the context of the post was not necessarily regarding healing but how we have received power from the Holy Spirit within us - power to walk the way Christ would have us walk and that power is energized by God. From your comment I don't believe you read all of my post; i.e. the verses I used claim that the power came by way of the Holy Spirit by faith and trust in Jesus Christ. [his name]

God uses each and everyone of us born of his Spirit to achieve his purposes - I guess what I was trying to get across is that we have all we need to be all we can be through and in the Holy Spirit born within us and that it is God who energizes that power through our faith in his Son. Basically in one sentence - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. And of course all glory goes to God.
Honestly I don't see where it was said "I" can heal or that "I" can do something in my own power - I was specifically talking about the power God energized in us via the Holy Spirit.

Blain - There is a difference between ministering and intercession prayer. I am used in healing quite often, and what happens is that I have a deep sense that the Lord wants to heal someone. So, while my hands are on the person, I become aware of Jesus' presence (not the person). I identify with His compassion for the person and His power over the sickness. I ask the Father to release the anointing for healing in the name of Jesus into the person. I sort of become the vessel for this release. My faith visualizes it being poured into the person, and usually I feel it happening.

I always tell the person that the Lord's anointing has been released, and to let it manifest as He chooses it to. Sometimes they feel something, sometimes not. But I tell them to keep releasing thanksgiving for his anointing upon them. Day after day. Usually it results in healing. And actually sometimes on the spot.

The important thing is to follow the Lord's direction for what he wants to say and do. One time I was praying for someone with a bad knee, and for the first time I had a strong thought that the Lord wanted me to blow on the knee. After asking permission, I did just that - and immediately the pain was gone and remained gone. We move as He directs, and we are ministering his healing. Others in the room might be interceding while we are doing that. But the one who is ministering the healing is usually the one who KNOWS the Lord is present to heal.

This is difficult to explain, but hope it helps. I'll take private questions. Just don't want to take over this thread.

I really didn't mean this thread to be about healing. I like you post and it is in following revelation one may receive [leading of the Holy Spirit] regarding a certain situation whether it be physical healing, mental healing, healing within any area of our lives. I was mainly speaking of the power the believer has to aid him/her in their walk - that God energizes the believer to have the will to want to please him. :) I did use a context of healing and Blain picked up on that because it was an are in which he was interested and where he needs encouragement and edifying - probably why he picked up on it! So all's good . . .

Well I am often times empowered by the holy spirit. A lot of times when I am praying something happens to me that I call being consumed by fire. Its a bit weird to explain-imagine the holy spirit is a blazing flame, now imagine that you are suddenly consumed by that flame not visible to the naked eye. That Fire is poured into your prayers, your suddenly strong and have a fiery passion and love for God and your energized better than an energy drink.

I never knew what to call this but it happens often to me

Seeing as how God CREATED words, including the word "gosh," don't you think if he did not want his name said in vain, he would have left it out of our language? I say "oh my gosh" all the time. LOL. Gosh and God are two very different words, and gosh is NOT a swear word.

It is called an anointing by the Holy Spirit. Even though we are all anointed in the sense that we have the Holy Spirit indwelling us, there are special moments of empowerment for specific things such as praying, ministering, teaching. Sometimes we feel a strong anointing of just His love for us. This is the best of all!

Romans 1:16 the word is used in conjunction with the gospel message. It really is where the dynamite power thing comes from.
The dynamite of God accomplishing that to which Jehovah God has purposed it.

For the cause of Christ

Yes. . . I read that one also in doing a word study of "power". The Romans verse is concerning the gospel as the power of God unto salvation. I didn't use every verse and I was mostly looking at the power in the gift of holy Spirit, how it is energized by God and God energizing the believer via the gift of holy Spirit.

Thanks for you contribution Roger. :)

The Holy Spirit works different in each persons life. For example I am not a "Prayer warrior", I pray but I am not a person who can pray for long periods of time. I know people who pray hard and long and I'll be willing to bet their prayers are answered.
The question is actually are we willing to let the Holy Spirit use us in the way God intends for our lives? We can actually quell the work of the Holy Spirit with our doubt and unwillingness to "release" the Holy Spirit in our lives.

And oh my GOSH that was a long OP! LOL

If the holy spirit wants to be released and blaze into our hearts and souls then I say Let the fire Burn!
