'Grace be to you and peace from God our Father,
and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble,
by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us,
so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.'
(2 Cor. 1:2 -5)
* Paul and his companions new what it was to suffer for the name of Christ,
and they knew also the joy unspeakable and full of glory that was their consolation.
It was super-abounding! Praise God!
'But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye:
and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
(1 Pet. 3:14 )
'If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye;
for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part He is evil spoken of,
but on your part He is glorified.'
(1 Pet.4:14)
* There was a time when Peter shrank from the suffering and reproach of Christ, didn't he? He wept bitterly (Luke 22:62) when His Saviour looked around and looked at Him, having known that He would deny Him. Yet here he is quite a different man, by the grace of God.
Praise His Name!
