Dear Biggiestomp, What English-language version of the Bible is your quotation from Ephesians 1:3-6? Is that the NKJV or some other version?
Here is Eph. 1:3-6 in the ONT (Orthodox New Testament):
"Blessed be the God and Father of Lord Jesus Christ, the One Who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ, even as He chose us for Himself before the foundation of the world, for us to be holy and blameless before Him, in love having foreordained us to adoption through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He bestowed grace upon us in the Beloved, ...."
God bless you. Apparently the text which the ONT, which is the original Greek text because the Church would know it, has adoption through Jesus Christ to Himself, not "adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself." Perhaps the words "as sons" aren't in some of the Greek manuscripts, I do not know. Perhaps people who know the various Greek texts can tell us. Later on I'll do a study of this, maybe, so I can find out why there is a small discrepancy between these two English translations.

Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself: This is the Father’s destiny for His chosen - that they would enjoy adoption as sons. God’s unfolding plan for us not only includes salvation and personal transformation, but also a warm, confident relationship with the Father.

In Roman law, “When the adoption was complete it was complete indeed. The person who had been adopted had all the rights of a legitimate son in his new family and completely lost all rights in his old family. In the eyes of the law he was a new person. So new was he that even all debts and obligations connected with his previous family were abolished as if they had never existed.”

Takes the thought even further: “Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are not adopted into the family of God; they are born into the family. The Greek has only one word ‘Sonplace.’ We are placed into the position of Sons.”

This high position in the family of God gives us something in Jesus that Adam never had. “When people ask us the speculative question why God went ahead with the creation when he knew that it would be followed by the fall, one answer we can tentatively give is that he destined us for a higher dignity than even creation would bestow on us.”

I've never heard of the Orthodox New Testament. Might be another version, i may want to read as well. I don't limit myself to one translations. I do respect your opinion on your choose of translation. Yet i feel as it is written, it is the Holy One which brings understanding as we seek diligently.​
