Ethics is an interesting concept. What do you think ethics is? How would you define ethics? What is it that governs one's ethics? How does ethics relate to the social aggregate?

Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that "involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior.

We get right or wrong behavior from God's moral law (Romans 2) and written law (The Bible).

What governs ethics is God's Spirit who works in all of humanity so that they are without excuse.

As for social gatherings of people with no interactions you will have to explain your train of thought with that one.

Here's the first in a series of lectures from Dr. R. C. Sproul that deals with Christian ethics. I thought that it may be useful here (this lecture is 21 minutes, and it compares ethics and morality) so, if you'd like to listen to it (for free), go here:

A textbook definition. The issue that always confronts any society in deciding an acceptable standard of ethics to govern itself is which epistemology should we use determine what is right or wrong?

There are Three distinct types of 'ethics'

God's Ethics are 'Other Worldly' =
"They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I have also sent them into the world. For them I sanctify Myself, so that they too may be sanctified by the truth."

Political Ethics are = 'I'm right/left and you are wrong' which can lead to imprisonment and death.

Religious Ethics are = 'I'm right/left you are wrong therefore, kill the SON and we will control the world.

You forgot business ethics which is a separate category. I suppose we could divide all human endeavor into various classifications of ethics, but it all boils down to the fact that there are only two epistemologies upon which all ethics are based.

Ethics start with Coveting...well the lack of coveting.

And some old terms that no one seems to remember anymore....

Moral turpitude.
Avarice.

Heck, most people don't even understand what coveting is much less Avarice. Moral turpitude? They know it's English but otherwise they are as lost as last years Easter eggs.

We just want to hear about the Santa Claus type buddy Jesus who lets you do whatever so long as you have a holy thought once in a while.
*sigh*

As a Christian I believe that the Biblical view of morality is best for society.
