Your answer makes no sense. We are not talking about metaphors here.
Why not?

The walls have 12 foundations which in reality are the apostles. The chief cornerstone is Jesus. The saints are precious jewels. God's tabernacle, he dwells in the saints and the saints dwell in him. The tree of life is Jesus, The living water is The Holy Spirit.

It's all metaphor for a state of existence in him that can only come to be in a new heaven & earth.

Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by its gates. But outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Revelation 22:15

What does he mean "outside the gate"? I remember one bible teacher saying, "I have no idea what this means" Trying to picture this image.
Those outside the kingdom are those who refused to repent and believe the gospel they never came to repentance of thier evil deeds

the gospel declares this by the word of God

“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭

we learn from the apostles God is giving the world time to hear the gospel he sent out from Jerusalem into the world and repent

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

revelation is showing us this gospel of the e kingdom being preached in all the world

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭14:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

you see as it progresses and things are falling apart on earth most of the people refuse to repent instead they curse God for what’s happening

“And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

instead of repenting they are blaming God for the sorrows and pain in life instead of accepting the gospel they are worshipping the beast and serving his Will of sin you see this through chapter 14forward

the idea in revelation 21 is there are those in the kingdom who believed and came to repent of serving the Will of the beast and trusted and gave glory to God repenting and believing the kingdom

Jesus in the gospel says many similar things such as this

“And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭8:11-12‬ ‭

You need to read the whole parables but to show where That image of a kingdom and then outside of it I’ll just highlight those parts

“And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25:30‬

“the Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:50-51‬ ‭

“The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,….. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:2, 13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

….So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:41-43, 49-50‬ ‭

see it’s all about repentance we can’t inherit the kingdom of God nd eternal life if we serve sin and never repent hearing the gospel of the kingdom

We make mistakes but we can’t live as if we’re just sinners anymore we can’t just make sin ok or no big deal we have to change that part of us before it’s too late

We don’t want to be outside the kingdom when all is done because it is to be cut off from God forever

Revelation, like Daniel, isn't in chronological order. Many times a summary will be given in chapter one, and more details of that event will be in chapter 5 (as an example).

In chorological order:
1. Tribulation
2. Second coming
3. Thousand years (Millennial kingdom) while Satan is locked away.
4. Satan release for a short time (Rev 20:7-8 ->Ez 38&39)), trying to attack those in Jerusalem (the beloved city Rev 20:9) who have access to the tree of life (Rev 2:7, Rev 22:1-3 ->Ez 47:1-12)
5. Final judgement (Rev 20:10-15).

Revelation 21&22 isn't a chronological continuation from Rev 20. Rev 21&22 is a description of the future kingdom where God comes to dwell with us and the tabernacle of God is with men (Rev 21:3 ->Ez 37:27). Where we will have access to the tree of life (Rev 2:7, 22:1-3 -> Ez 47:1-12), and He will bring our rewards at His coming (Rev 22:12 ->Is 40:10, 62:11).

Revelation 21

21 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, [a]John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Isaiah 65:17-19
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former shall not be remembered or [f]come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;
For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing,
And her people a joy.
19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem,
And joy in My people;
The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her,
Nor the voice of crying.

Isaiah 66:22-24
For as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another (Feast days, see also Zech 14),
And from one Sabbath to another,

All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

24 “And they shall go forth and look
Upon the corpses of the men
Who have transgressed against Me.
For their worm does not die,
And their fire is not quenched.

They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

Mark 9:42-48, Jesus says the wicked who transgress against God will be thrown into Gehenna which is a valley just south of Jerusalem; it has a history throughout the OT.

42 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life [j]maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to [k]hell (proper noun Gehenna which is south of Jerusalm), into the fire that shall never be quenched— 44 [l]where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into [m]hell, [n]into the fire that shall never be quenched— 46 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into [o]hell fire— 48 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

Those outside of the city, is referring to Jerusalem; the nations who are alive during that 1,000 years while Satan is locked up. People have this fluffy idea that the kingdom, when Christ returns, is going to bliss and joy and all sin in the world is going to be gone. The nations alive at his coming will still be sinning and have an opportunity to repent; that's the point of the 1,000 years while Satan is locked up.

That is why we are being built up to become ministers of his word for the purpose of reaching the lost at His kingdom.

Revelation 1:6

6 and has made us [a]kings kingdom of priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 20:6
New King James Version
6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Interesting! Got to give this some meditation. Got the dogs & gates. But the dogs here sound like regular bow wows and in Rev. dogs are ?? "gentiles" or ?
The dogs in Lazarus parable and in Rev. are unsaved.

So when Jesus said, "I am the bread of life" is he really a loaf of bread?
You asked if he was using a metaphor, I answered from the Bible.
So now you want to talk about the Lords supper? Where Jesus gives us his body in the form of bread. And his blood in the form of wine.

The ones outside the gate are the ones that rejected the Lord and will be done away with at the White Throne Judgement.

I thought they were in hell or the outer darkness. Here it says they are just outside the gate.
