FROM CANAAN TO CANAAN?

I was reading Gen 11:31 “31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his... son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; AND THEY CAME UNTO HARAN, AND DWELT THERE"

OK so THEN I go down to 12 & God is telling Abram after Terah dies to get out of the land and in 12:5 “And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; AND INTO THE LAND OF CANAAN THEY CAME”

OK That confused me and I was wondering if any of you had insight. How can he be somewhere (Canaan), and the go to the same place? From Canaan to Canaan? I know they started in Haran which it seems is in Canaan, but then they still end up going to Canaan. So was Heron NOT in Canaan or a part of it? PS Please leave me references Anyone? Anyone?

Look at the beginning of chapter 12.

God told abraham to leave the land of his fathers, his family, and his fathers house.

This would have been the "ur of the chaldees"

God is telling Abraham, If he would get out of Ur, and go to the place God wants to give him (canaan) he will greatly bless him

I know it is confusing. But chapter 11 is a genealogy account, which will show the father and his descendants. . Chapter 12 is the actual occurrence of Abraham's call. Which is included in the genealogy account of Tarah since Abram was a descendant of tarah
