Adam = Man
Seth = Appointed
Enosh = Mortal
Cenan = Sorrow
Mahalalel = The Blessed God
Jared = Shall Come Down
Enoch = Teaching
Methuselah = His Death Shall Bring
Lamech = The despairing
Noah = Rest and Comfort

This is the genealogy in Genesis 5, “Man appointed mortal sorrow, The Blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring the despairing rest and comfort.” (Okay! So this is amazing because the genealogy, in order in Genesis 5, shows us God’s promise, of him sending Jesus to save us!!!)

This interesting stuff came to my attention while I was a Jewish studies major at a Bible college a few years back (came to my attention apart from the college, that is). I brought it up in a conversation with an OT survey prof and he basically said "interesting" and then went on to say how you shouldn't read too much into Bible "codes" and the like. He clearly was not impressed. For my part, however, I believe this differs greatly from numerology and Bible "codes" because it comes from the agreed upon meaning of each of the names, in the order provided in the text, without skipping any names or otherwise using interpretive rules that apply only in this case and nowhere else.
What's also cool is that several of the names and their meanings are independently significant. Adam, obviously, was the first man. Seth was "appointed" to take the place of Able, whom Cain had slain. Methuselah "his death shall bring", died the same year that the flood began.

Having said all that...
It is my experience that the amazing "coincidence" impresses those who already believe God is capable of doing something like this. Those who do now know God tend to view it as nothing more than coincidence, in spite of the astronomical odds against it. It is a good source of encouragement to believers, though, to know that God's plan has not changed, that He is true and always will be true to His promises!

Wow that is really awesome. I'll have to look more into this when I have time.

I have seen this with two slight differences.

Kenan = habitation

Lamech = captives

I first heard this list from Dr. D. James Kennedy and then heard it shortly thereafter by Dr. Adrian Rogers.
