this topic has been discussed many many times in previous threads.. just keeps on coming up.

Always remember to look at the context of scripture.. a verse never stands alone from the verses that surround it..

for example-- 'a day with God is a thousand years'-- people use this to explain a way of God using evolution.. yet the verse is surrounded by passages not about creation.. but the coming of Jesus Christ! Therefore the verse is about the 2nd coming.. and not creation.

A similar thing applies to 'blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven men'..

What is the context? Who is Jesus talking to?

Well.. for a start when He said the statement.. He wasn't talking to Christians.. but unsaved Pharisees and Scribes.. so that is who you apply it to in particular.

What were they doing? They were denying the Holy Spirit.. the very vehicle by which salvation is given..

So this verse is about rejecting salvation from Jesus.. which is something a saved person can't do.. because they have done it at some point in their life.

Anyway, this has been so thrashed out.. I can't believe people haven't seen enough from previous threads..

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is dying without believing in Jesus alone for salvation. You aren't dead yet so, no you haven't. ; )

No it's calling God evil, that's blasphemy. Not believing in Christ is the sin of unbelief.

I honestly don't believe that anybody who truly loves God and is worried about their eternal soul, and accepts Jesus is capable of not being forgiven. Like they said, blaspheming the Holy Spirit isn't a singular act, it's almost a life style.

John 3:16 (RSV) does say “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

I imagine if we blaspheme we will be punished, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we will go to hell forever, does it?

I know you have repented and the unforgivable sin is not accepting Jesus. So God remembers no more.

Thank you, Wattie and everyone else, for helping me.

Yes - I do know that there have been other threads, but I wanted to share my specific situation. Also, I didn't know if I should bump older threads.
