Welll, lessee.
1. Too cold to hit the river, when I was saved. Was gonna, when it got warmer out, but...
2. Mom was dying of cancer, so had to take care of little brother, and then she went down quickly, so getting wet just wasn't on my mind.
3. Mom died, got whisked off 1500 miles away back to Dad's and didn't know any Christians there.
4. Got "upset" with God because I was told by Christian that they laid hands on Mom so she'd be miraculously healed, so I put the blame on God instead on them, and backslid.
5. Came back a mere 3-4 years later, but by that time I was a druggie going through rehab, so didn't really have time then either.
6. Graduated college at the end of rehab, (not that I was getting my degree in rehab -- the two just coincided), was on my own so needed a job or work immediately, spent as much time as possible looking for how to make enough money to eat and stay in my little off-campus apartment, knowing I had to get out of that apartment before the beginning of the new school year. Got work, moved -- twice -- and finally landed in my own apartment that then needed furniture. (I had a bed and a TV at least. lol)
7. Kept working, and met future-hubby (and second-parents) at church, and voila!...
8. Got baptized.

Why? Does that meet with your approval or not?

when are you going to quit with the excuses?

do you need another song? ;)

Three times:
1. As a baby in the Catholic Church.
2. By Living Water when I was 16.
3. H2O baptism again in our second-parent's swimming pool at 24. (We adopted that older couple as our second-parents. They're the ones who taught us how to have a good marriage by example. Second-Mom was baptized the same day I was. Very amazing because she was terrified of water. She couldn't swim. The pool came with the house.)

So are you sure you've been baptised then. :p

Why do so many people wait so long AFTER they accept Christ into their lives to be baptized? That's just weird to me. Do you guys wait that long to begin to work for the Kingdom? Or to obey any of the other Commandments of Christ?

Just wondering.........it's just weird to me. In my opinion, after a person accepts Christ into their lives, they should seek to be baptized as soon as possible........I guess that's just me......but........
As I said, there was no baptismal tank in the church I was going to, and everyone there was a long time Christian. In retrospect, I should have done something about it. However, in actual reality, it wasn't God's timing. The double baptism with my husband, who was dragging his feet was the perfect time, even though it was 2 years after I was saved, and maybe 6 years after my husband was saved!

Baptism should be about what God wants and plans, not what people think is the right way to go!

so if there's only one baptism for remission of sins, which baptism is it?
Where do you see that? If baptism brought forgiveness of sin or salvation, it wouldn't be by grace, it would be by works.

Not making a problem of it.........and I can see where there could be times when baptism could be delayed.............but for years? I am glad folks get baptized, but goodness.............

I got baptized pretty quickly after getting saved.
But lets not make a problem of it, to each his own, let everyone grow in the Lord at their own pace.

My wife, my youngest daughter who is a licensed minister (brag, brag, lol) and I all got baptised 1 week after easter sunday in 2010.

The week before, on easter sunday, I found a prayer in the back of my bible about asking for Salvation from the Lord. I had all of us present sit down at the kitchen table and pray this prayer, 1 at a time. My mom and step-dad were there, who were already saved, but they prayed the prayer too.

There was only one who refused to pray that prayer. And he walked out of the house while we were all praying. I feel a little sad that he may look back on that moment and wish he would have prayed with us. No matter how silly it may have seemed at the time.

I have been baptized with what is called, a believers baptism. It is not a salvation issue buts makes a great study.

I see that a little differently today. I think that doctrine has a beginning. Not sure where the idea of some that it is a sign we can perform as evidence of the Holy Spirit? We walk by faith; it works in us giving us a living hope.

I would offer baptism using water as that seen is a old testament ceremonial law used as a shadow to represent that not seen…. the High Priest of our calling in anticipation of the coming sufferer Christ.

It was put into play as the foundation with the sons of Aaron as that needed when a person enters the priesthood.

Today on this side of the cross it represents the kingdom of priests, Jew and Gentile alike called Christians.

Even Christ from the tribe of Judah got under the ceremonial law and performed its requirement .This is when John a Levite performed the priestly ceremony, and he could offiicate , after that Jesus was led in the wilderness to begin His ministry, as the High Priest of our calling.

Having been baptized by John a Levite, Christ then could baptize His disciples. The apostate Jews were interested in John stopping Him, knowing Jesus was from the tribe of Judah they were saying Jesus was not the Christ.

After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison. Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. Joh 3:26

Interestingly John did not say he was the Christ, or give them a reason why Christ was baptizing ,but rather informed them that we walk by faith the unseen, given from heaven. They were walking by sight.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.John3:27

I think a baptism today represnts the same, a desire to become a member of the priesthood of belivers as a witnes they believe they are prepared to go out into the world with the gospel.

Was baptized with water, but not in water. Is there an age of accountability? It seems it didn't mean much to me as a baby, more for parents, and friends, and relatives, but i didn't know any different.
That thought just came to mind, at what age do readers think a child is mature enough for baptism , i don't mean the child just being one of the jones doing it because others are doing it. Of course children can be at different levels of walk with the Lord.

What i'm trying to ask. Should a person regardless of age, know what the baptism means before they are baptised, does baptism mean anything if they don't know?

A child has to be old enough to accept Jesus as Saviour, that varies from child to child.
I know of people who said they accepted Jesus and meant it as young as 3-4.

They also need to be able to understand why they are getting baptised, not to
mention being able to cope with being dunked.

Otherwise it's not their decision, it's their parents.
