Yes, I was thinking along the same lines, and as much as I agree with Penn about Cee, saying that faith is born of hope also gave me pause to ponder, probably because it was only when I absolutely got to the end of myself could I accept that surrender to God was probably the only sane option left. From surrender (born of acknowledging the ultimate hopelessness of self in rebellion to God) came faith and to that hope was added. Perhaps it is different for each person.

Hmmm...
Trying to think of how it happened with me...
I began reading and I saw that this was a good Man being written about but I saw that He was just...wishful thinking, because the world doesn't work the way He seemed to be hoping it could...then I saw that He was talking about something other than this world, and I began to wish what He said it was true. By the time I got a few gospels in, I began to wonder if maybe it was true, and I began to hope it was, then suddenly KNEW it was true.

I would say then, for me, I hoped first. Although...I can't say my hope caused me to trust (have faith). I have no idea how THAT came on me, it just did. It's how I know it was a gift. :)

So yeah, my faith/trust didn't come about by hoping. At least not as I can see it. My hope did not give birth to my faith...but I did hope first. But they are pretty intertwined. Dunno.

Just clear up some stuff:

My thoughts...

Hope as Biblically defined is a confident expectation.

Faith and hopes connection are shown here:

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Hope looks to the future.
Faith pulls it into today.

Jesus loves me and will save me - hope.
I accept I am saved and loved - faith.

It is a weird thing, but when I ask people why they don't try to make disciples of nations, or even the city, church, family, etc. They say what's the point it's going to get worse anyway...

People see things getting worse (if anyone had a right for this it was the Early church)
So they pull things getting worse in the future today.
Just listen to their words. And we are told they contain the power of life and death.

I realized when I posted what I wrote it wouldn't go over super well, but that's okay if everyone always agreed with me, how would we learn together?

How does this relate with escaping the corruption of the world??? Glad you asked! Lol.

Romans 8:[SUP]24 [/SUP]For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

If we have our "eyes on His promises" we shall have hope for heavenly things.
But if we have our eyes on what we see, the circumstances, of the world. We shall not.

But what is our prayer?

Matt 6:9
So then, this is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
10Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread,
12And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors;
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

There is nothing righteous about embracing a negative world view, imo. We are commanded to pray for His will to be done here on Earth and also to be delivered from the evil one. And how often are we to pray?

1 Thess 5:16 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

There you go, God's will for us. A lot of people want to know what it is for their lives. That's a big chunk right there.

Don't even get me started on giving thanks in all circumstances, haha.

I'm hesitant on posting this on this forum because there isn't much honest talk about the Bible on this forum anymore, but I could use help on this question. And this is a question, not a political statement, not a monologue, not another "only I have the word of God speaking through me." I honestly don't get this. So, this is one of those times, when if all you're going to do is preach your personal gospel start your own post instead of wasting time on here. Okay?

I don't get the quote above -- "having escaped from the corruption" in 2 Peter.

Here's the context that baffles me:
2Pe 1:2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
2Pe 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
2Pe 1:4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
2Pe 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,
2Pe 1:6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,
2Pe 1:7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
2Pe 1:8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sounds really good, doesn't it? But Peter was a man facing the side effects of Jesus dying, rising again, walking among his people, and then going home to the Father. The rulers were, at best, confused. They were working themselves up to slaughtering Christians. Judah didn't much like them either, since they disrupted the little peace they had with the Romans. It wasn't an idyllic setting, especially after witnessing exactly how corrupt the people in power were.

(See where I'm going here?)

"
having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire."

"Having escaped." Future perfect tense, right? No, really. Is that right from a grammatical perspective? I'm not sure there, but it sure looks like it already happened, and they hadn't escaped.

In America, our choice for our next leader is either an incompetent chronic liar or a man so full of himself he thinks he is the only answer to all the ills in America. And we get the opportunity to do God's will here. That corruption is already upon us. It's been on us for a long time. How do I "partake of the divine nature" without adding to the corruption? How did I avoid the corruption?

This is not a question of who I should vote for. It's a question of understanding how God says I've already escaped the world's corruption. How had Peter and his audience?
I always took it as being born again.

Having escaped from the corruption of our hearts because God gave us new hearts and minds... The corruption that is there because of the fall of Adam and eve....Jesus washed away with His blood...

Does that make sense?

11Peter 1:5-6-7.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

it is written:
'Seek you first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness'....

it is written again:
11TIM. 2:4.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life;
that He may please Him who hath chosen him to be a Soldier.

the situation is very simple - if I entangle myself with those who are not preaching 'righteousness',
and the 'coming Kingdom of Christ', I am entangling myself in the affairs of this 'world'.

to my knowledge, neither 'candidates' are speaking TRUTH, according to the WORD of GOD...

the choice is: arsenic or cyanide - 'king of the devils or the queen of wickedness'...

it is all about us being entrapped by 'the wiles of satan'...

but, it is your choice, if you marry an adulterer then you become 'one' with them...
I'm thinking, even if I tried, I can't get entangled with either. They don't know me, and I'm not giving enough money to either for them to ever notice me.

And yet, one or the other is very likely to change my future to tougher. POTUS has been doing that to us since G.W.
