Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

This whole story is misunderstood in two ways.

1. Some believe it is speaking against capital punishment,, but its not. The Lord would not
issue the Law to stone, then go against it. In fact, if Jesus had gone against the Law, He would
have sinned and the Pharisees would have a charge against Him.

2. Some believe Jesus is refering to Himself as the "one without sin", but He isn't. Jesus Himself
could not qualify as someone who could cast the first stone. The Law required, that after
someone was found guilty, by two or more honest witnesses, that the eye witnesses, were to
be the ones to cast the first stone. Since Jesus had not been an eye witness, He could not
cast a first stone. If He had been refering to Himself, here again, He would have been going
against the law, and the Pharisees would have had a charge to bring against Him.

So, who is the one without sin here? If anyone is to be without sin, totally in their life, to
qualify to execute any sort of judgement, even for litering, then no one would be qualified.
Without sin is refering to due process. Was the accused judged in a fair trial? Was the accused
judged by those whose job it is to judge such issues? Were there more than one witness, since
no one could be stoned based on one witness account? Were the witnesses found to be
honest with righteous intent and fairness? (Not a trumped up charge because you disliked
an individual).

So, what is Jesus saying here? Well, the woman wasn't brought to the proper officials, but
to Jesus. That is breaking the law, sin #1. The witnesses were not tested before a proper
official, sin #2. They asked should she be stoned without a trial, sin #3. Jesus wrote on the
ground and many speculate to what He wrote, based on the misconceptions listed at the
start. What I think He wrote, were the scriptures that refered back to due process.
He says, he who is without sin, among you, cast the first stone. At this point in time, any
stoning would have been murder, because the law had not been carried out. And murderers
were required to be....stoned. So, they all left. They had asked, should this woman be stoned,
and they were on the verge of being in the same place as the woman, had they went through
with the stoning. They realized they had been trapped.

Jesus backed the law of stoning. He implied if all the due process had been carried out with
how God intended, and you stand righteous before God in these proceedings, then you are
allowed to carry out the sentence. The lesson is not speaking against judging, but judging
righteously and in fairness. Not to judge with evil intent. Not to condemn out of hatred.
Not to have the log in your own eye, while trying to remove the spec in your brother's eye.

And a side note, Jesus was in the temple, which had stone floor. Many had portrayed Jesus
writing in dirt, but He was on stone floors. He wrote into solid stone, which here, He is making
another claim to deity, since the Lord wrote the ten commandments, into rock, with
His finger.

I don't completely disagree with what your saying.

But I would suggest a study of stones in scripture as a whole.

He Was The Stone that was first cast, but not at the woman, but at them.

Joh 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the elders, even as far as the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

This was much more than the Law here or it written on tablets of stone, He cast it at their Hearts, by His Word.

Luk 20:17 And He looked fixedly at them, and said, "What is this then that has been written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become into the head of the corner?
Luk 20:18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."

Everything you have is right on, plus one more thing is in Torah, the man who laid with the woman was to be brought before them as well. That was another thing they failed to do, and broke the law on. Nice job on all this. Shalom

A simple message from Jesus!

John 8:10 And bending back up, and seeing no one but the woman, Jesus said to her, Woman, where are the ones who accused you? Did not one give judgment against you?
John 8:11 And she said, No one, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I give judgment. Go, and sin no more.

I believe what Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery sums up the pure gospel message nicely, in a very clear and concise manner! So many professing Christ will use this verse to give an excuse to continue in sin, because of the great mercy God bestowed upon this woman caught in a grievous sin, that the law said she had to be stoned to death.
But Jesus, instead of hanging on the letter of the law, which was death to the adulterous woman, instead let the spirit of love and mercy give this woman another chance, and gave her life back.
Now many will take this story, and make allowances to continue in unrepentant sin, or try to prove you can commit grievous sins against God and all is well, and you will never loose your salvation because Jesus didn't condemn this woman, but set her free, through His great love and mercy.
BUT, Jesus also made in crystal clear to this woman, to go and sin no more! To repent from her sin, and not continue in it, less she looses her salvation.
This is the great mercy God shows all of us, who are still in our sins, and have fallen into the lies the modern church is spreading today, such as Original sin, substitution, eternal security,(OSAS), and all the rest of the saved in sin doctrines polluting the pure truth of the gospel, that is telling the unrepentant sinner to go and sin no more, to forsake their vile sins, put them to death with Christ,(Galatians 2:20) which will lead to a cleansed heart, able to receive the spirit of God, and the implanted word of God, willing to now obey, guard their heart, and follow Jesus on the narrow road! (Luke 9:23)
This to me is another powerful message from God, totally excluding any notion that we get saved in our vile sins, to later be cleaned up, by joining a good 12 step program, or focus group, but then go and sin no more!
Jesus never told this woman caught in adultery, to just accept Him, believe on Him, and confess her sins to Him, no He told her to go and sin no more, and to repent, stop sinning, and follow Him, why? To receive His mercy, and to prove her repentance was through and complete, by actually stopping her adultery, making amends where she can, and NOT continue in sin that will lead to death if not crucified with Christ! Gal 5:24 But those belonging to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
So this woman had a choice, to either go and sin no more, and honor what Jesus told her, clearing her heart through repentance, or going back to her sins, and thus receiving her just punishment.
I don't think Jesus meant when He said go and sin no more to this woman, was to still continue in it without any consequence, since this sin was punishable by death.
Yes God is a God of great mercy, and compassion, He proves this each and every day, by not sending His wrath on the disobedient who mock Him, and take all He has done for granted, living as they please, sowing to the flesh, and growing more and more vile as time passes. The world is full of sick, and perverse crimes against children, the elderly and the helpless, the hate crimes and sexual immorality in our country alone is sky rocketing, and way out of control, and the worse part is what is coming out of the church system today.
The church is suppose to be producing a holy, godly, and pure, righteous people, zealous for good works, being an example against the ways of the world, and being a strong light and witness for truth. love, and peace, teaching the truth at all cost, defending against the onslaught of all the false teachers they have every week in the pulpits, who with a clear smile, and a friendly handshake, are actually telling the lost and gullible masses, they do not have to stop sinning, they don't have to go and sin no more, lest something worse come upon them, no they are telling them they cannot stop sinning, they cannot obey from the heart, and most of all, they are totally forgiven in their vile and worldly state, and going to heaven, because Jesus didn't mean what He said in His word, it was just a suggestion we just cannot obey, because we were born sinners, will always be a sinner saved by grace, and will never be able to fully repent.
This folks is not the true gospel preached and taught by Jesus Christ, He clearly taught the sin stops in repentance, or there is no forgiveness only the wrath to come, to the children of disobedience.
Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked do, shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be remembered; in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.
A clear message to go and sin no more!

Deu 17:6-7 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. (7) The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

Deu 19:15-19 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. (16) If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; (17) Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days; (18) And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; (19) Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

But Jesus, instead of hanging on the letter of the law, which was death to the adulterous woman, instead let the spirit of love and mercy give this woman another chance, and gave her life back.
Jesus DID hold to the letter of the law. That was the reason they couldn't go through
with it, because they would have broken the law themself. In my Bible, Jesus said to
cast the first stone. If the charge had been brought up, with the correct motives, and
all due process given, Jesus could not have stopped it. He would have sinned in doing so.
But Jesus, holding to the very letter of the Law, pointed out where they failed to hold
to the letter of the Law by not giving due process. They would have been guilty of murder
had they casts any stones, but that wasn't their intent. Their intent was to trap Jesus.
Jesus basically said, alright, if you have given due process, carry out the sentence, but if you
haven't, you are guilty of murder, and you'll end up being stoned. They came to trap
Jesus with the letter of the Law, but Jesus trapped them with the letter of the Law.

When Jesus asked where are the accusers, that is asking, where are the eye witnesses to
this event? There are none. Jesus couldn't bring an accusation, since He wasn't an
eye witness, so He says He doesn't accuse her either. He is the ultimate Judge. He held
to the letter of the law. No eye witnesses, no due process, the verdict: not guilty,
but added, go and sin no more. The woman lived because Jesus upheld the Law, she was
forgiven sins because He would pay for those sins, thus fulfilling the Law as a sacrificial lamb.
