Okay this totally fictitious, but I think very possible.

Imagine this:

Kenneth Hagin or Kenneth Copeland or Benny Hinn has one of these big gatherings where thousands of people are all worked up to experience the next big manifestation of the spirit... and then Hagin/Copeland/Hinn says:

"Hey you know the Holy Spirit works in strange unexpected ways"

..and presents some slippery prooftext scripture from the Bible for that vague general point.

And then Hagin/Copeland/Hinn says "One time the Holy Spirit came down on me and I just start QUACKING like a duck!!! Glory to God!!!".

And then the guy (Hagin/Copeland/Hinn), or their accomplice in the audience, just starts quacking!!!

Then I guarantee you it would quickly spread like a wave through the thousands of people there.

They'd all be insanely quacking like ducks, thinking wow what a manifestation of the Holy Spirit!

(Then we'd have a "Holy Quacking" thread here.) :D

RoBo, I have been black balled in some good Churches before, been banned from Bible forums before. I Have a high regaurds toward you and most of your threads and for your ministry through this Bible forum . BUT, speaking bad of the Holy Ghost is Blaspheme, which is also the unforgivable sin. and the Bible does tell us to try the spirits to know if they are of God:

1jo 4:1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.1jo 4:2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:1jo 4:3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
So unless you are going by scriptures and have tried the Spirits that was at this meeting, then I would be very careful about saying this is not of God. His ways or not our ways, would you ever think God would use spit to heal a blind man, if it had not been told in scriptures :

1co 1:18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.1co 1:19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.1co 1:20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?1co 1:21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.1co 1:22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:1co 1:23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;1co 1:24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.1co 1:25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.1co 1:26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:1co 1:27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

i believe Robo is discerning the spirits in this situation pretty fairly. if someone says " hey did you know the Holy Spirit could do this? * random thing about the spirit* and then randomly everyone falls into place, it's suspecting how genuine it is because people are sheep and want to fit in with the crowd.

I didn't see where it say to discern the spirit, but rather try the spirits. discernment is a gift that all Christians should have but that discernment is to know what is right and wrong, good and evil, but then God says if we think a spirit is good, then try it. don't let it fool you even though you have discernment, try the spirit. that video and the things going on might not been of God and it could have been of God I am not judging that, all I said was that unless robo did try that spirit, then he shouldn't judge it either, for if it was of God then he just spoke bad of the Holy Ghost

If we as Christians should have discernment as to what is right or wrong, good or evil, ..then, why should we "try" a spriit that feels wrong to us?? Even if we cannot say for certain we find it EVIL....if we feel wrongly about it, that it would take us where we felt we would be doing the Lord no favor, why would we do it?? I personally find it sickening to watch these people act this way, and call it something of God....IIII would not get anything from acting in this way, would not get a feeling of closeness or a feeling of doing right by God. With this being said, I think it would be wrong of ME to "try" it.

Well brothers and sisters, I guess I (and most of you) were going by common sense and the pretty clear prinicples given to us in scripture on mass manifestations of the spirit in church (1 Cor 14).

Thaddeus: hey bro see my more recent post in the Holy Laughter thread ...... even though I don't think it's the Holy Spirt, I adjusted my stance to say that "even if" it is the Holy Spirit -- well, look at how Paul dealt with similar things in 1 Cor 14. (See my post.)

God bless

nanabean,

These are observable actions that you detest because you feel they are wrong. Do you detest any teaching that violates the grace of God and the finished work of Christ in the same way? Do you feel that trying the spirit of a message should be tested to determine as to what sort it is? Does the word of God give you the discernment to know if a message is from God or not. If you can not discern the word of God how can you discern the actions of those you detest?

Hey I didn't say it I just quoted scripture, if a evil spirit can fool us and we need to try it then maybe we can be confused about a good spirit also. in these scriptures we see that Elijah streched himself out on a dead child three times, in most times this would be preverted to most, But The man of God did it , and a wonderful thing happened.
1ki 17:19And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.1ki 17:20And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?1ki 17:21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.
1ki 17:22And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.1ki 17:23And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.1ki 17:24And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
we don't know the way of God that is why maybe God said to try the spirit, but I didn't say it, I didn't write the Bible I just preach it. you need to ask God why He inspired john to tell us to try the spirit, or maybe you don't need God to tell u that, for u already know what God is going to do and how he is going to to it, and that is why you feel that " I think it would be wrong of ME to "try" it" your own quote I point out....

They also heal you. One time, two ducks walked into a doctors office and one says " So, which one of us is the quack?" I know, I'm ashamed of myself too lol.

Three guys died in an accident and went to heaven. When they got there, St. Peter said, "We only have one rule in heaven. Don't step on the ducks!"

So they entered heaven and sure enough, there were ducks all over the place. It was almost impossible not to step on a duck and although they tried their best to avoid them, the first guy accidentally stepped on one.

Along came St. Peter with the ugliest woman he ever saw. St. Peter chained them together and said, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly woman".

The next day, the second guy stepped accidentally on a duck and along came St. Peter, who didn't miss a thing, and with him was another extremely ugly woman. He chained them together with the same admonishment as the first.

The third guy had observed all this and not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly woman, was very careful where he stepped. He managed to go for months without stepping on any duck. But one day, St. Peter came up to him with the most gorgeous woman he had ever laid eyes on. St. Peter chained them together without saying a word.

The guy remarked, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all eternity"?

She replied, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck"!

I know about I cor. 14 , but paul was rebuking them on their misuse of the gifts of ministry/spiritual gifts which also goes on in todays Church, not their form of worship.

Pr 17:22A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
merry heart would bring laughter to me, am I suppose to walk out of the Church and not share my blessing with everyone else
