Honest question....why don't churches teach the best way to avoid fornication is to get married?

John, do you not see how your thinking contradicts both God and your own thinking?

If folks are obeying God by not having sex before marriage (as you seem to be okay with); then they are indeed practicing purity (which you don't seem to be okay with)?
What's up?
But people are not waiting for marriage to have sex. Waiting for marriage may be the ideal, but for many it's not happening.

"
“If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the marriage price and marry her. If her father absolutely refuses to give her away, the man must still pay the marriage price for virgins." Exodus 22:16. Interesting GOD did not call for the death penalty, like he did for other sex sins.

Dating is a way of getting to know the other person today.
Dating is you take a different woman every Saturday night and then if you become exclusive you can say you are going steady, that was how it originally worked anyway.

I believe in love at first sight so dating is over rated, one never really gets to know anyone anyway. IMHO

Ted Bundy's wife had no clue about his other life.

I should have been married in my 30's or 40's. I did everything I could to make that happen.
I assume you were an active fornicator and that's why you felt you should marry. You've stated previously that you still want to get married, so should I assume you're still an active fornicator?

I wasn't an active fornicator. I wonder if I had been, I might have been married by now.

So the only reason for the obsession with marrying to avoid fornication is for the sake of sound doctrine? And to vent your anger at Calvary Chapel?

I have to tell you, I seriously doubt this. You honestly expect me to believe you were never an active fornicator in your 70 years on this earth? If you weren't, you're probably the only male who came of age during the sexual revolution who wasn't.

Did I commit fornication. yes, rarely.....less than 5 times. (which is extremely embarrassing to have that few). When I was around 45 I told a Christian friend...."Do you really think I was going to be a virgin at my age?" He looked down, shook his head and said..."No, that was meant for failure"

Chuck Smith was a very good teacher, but some of his ideas were way off. The high school had a dance class. The footsteps were set on a pattern on the floor, but the students were not allowed to touch each other. He allowed the purity movement to take full control in the church. I was teaching a Sunday School class for deaf children (I majored in sign language), so i stayed for the class. GOD wanted me there for those kids.

I think you and I probably mean different things by "fornication."

I guess I don't really get this animosity you still have for Calvary Chapel. If your reason for staying there was for God and the children, why do you still carry so much unforgiveness toward them. Were there women there you cared for and wanted to date but couldn't because of their purity policies?

There are good and bad in every church. What they were teaching about the purity movement was wrong and caused much harm in marriages. I enjoyed teaching the class, but railed against the purity movement being accepted there.
