You will never beat the devil with song lyrics or analogies about what you think scripture might say.
They say it is not by our doing and our power that the devil is defeated but the blood of Christ and the holy spirit. Did you know that exorcism is a real thing? did you also know that scripture is quoted over the possessed over and over again but at least 80% of the exorcism end up failing and worse in the death of the person?
This is because scripture alone is not enough you have to have the spirit and only by the spirits leading do you have any authority.
Even I have been physically attacked by a demon but it had to do as I said I didn't even know I had authority, another time I was attacked by another demon and all I knew to do was to say the name Jesus but the demon didn't want me to it was like my tongue was tied and I struggled to say his name but finally when I was able to say his name it had no choice but to leave.
Why was I able to do these things when so many exorcists would use scripture yet fail? because I understood and knew the power in his word because I knew his voice and did as the spirit lead me to do. I didn't think about the scriptures I didn't think to say his name I just knew because my spirit inside me told me so.

Without some way to authenticate an identity, there isn't actually a way to know who is talking to you.

Did the blind man know who was talking to him when Jesus put mud in his eyes and told him to go wash in the pool? He actually did not know that was Jesus, the Son of God, until later.

So when people say they heard God talk or heard an angel talk then ok I believe that's what they think happened. They may be correct or they may not be. Just be careful assigning words to God that were revealed through intuition or personal prophecy.

So since anyone can quote the Bible, even the devil and non-Christians, how do you know the devil is not showing up telling 9 truths and 1 lie, masquerading as an angel of light?

I think we need to study the verse found in (1Cor. 4:6). This will help us understand more clearly how important it is to stay so very close to the word of God and go no further.

...that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written,...

This scripture is so very clear and plain.

Whats happening is people have personal thoughts and claim those thoughts came from God.

We have a warning to - not even think above that which is written,... (1Cor.4:6).

The wisdom of God is awesome.

11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; (1Peter 4:11).

Thanks

I think you make a good point about our thoughts. In Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV it says:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts."

Please explain what you mean by the last paragraph. I don't understand where you are coming from.

He is saying that scripture itself is not the deciding factor but the spirit behind it. You have seen how easy it is to use scripture against others here correct? it is so easy to go on google and search for a specific verse that fits your own agenda and even easier to find ways to use scripture as a weapon or to condemn others. This happened to me just yesterday in another thread where scripture was used to call me a child of the devil.

The reason that scripture alone has no power is because you need the spirits guidance in order for that power to function

Oh I am used to it, it doesn't matter if I am attacked it's when others attacked that meet my fiery personality and I did not like what was being said about them at all

Actually if you recall I specifically said it was not scripture but of scripture. We ourselves cannot speak the truth of his word without the holy spirit we lack the insight understanding and spirit to do so. So only by hearing the word can we know and understand it and by that logic my heart heard his voice and understood it's meaning. If it was by any other spirit or voice I would have not understood it at all.

Also I would not make assumptions about people based on your own view of them. I have seen and experienced the power that flows in those scriptures and I hold them to be very sacred and holy not a toy and not to be misused. Why do you think I am careful as to how I use it? do you see me all over the forums quoting and cherry picking verses just to prove my own view? Or do you see me using them to help edify and to encourage and guide?

The word of God is the same as a blade, for every blade that can cut and take life there is also a blade that can uphold and save.
Hi Blain, please ignore people that try and claim superiority with rudeness, sarcasm and arrogance. That behaviour, being without a loving attitude, takes away from anything they have to say. The fruit of the spirit needs to be present in our words and communications. Humility in discussion is a mark of God's children. It makes me so sad that discussion, in a respectful way, seems a rarity. Within the scripture. God is not limited. The whole world testifies to his glory. In observing the created world around us there are constant lessons. As far as communications, look at how he chose to communicate with Paul. It was absurd! Who would credit that God would speak through an animal. This defies logic but He chose to do so. We are foolish in our supposed wisdom. God is the great I Am. Please continue to walk and appreciate what he has done and how he inspires you with his greatness.
Also, please know that I include myself in needing to be open to his teaching and correction. I think when we get home and see the fullness of his truth, all of us will realize how little we really knew. Let us be humble and gracious. Anything else makes us look like fools.

Ah don't take all of that to heart because God knows every person and is a righteous Judge anyway. I've gotten all kinds of flak here just trying to discuss the Bible. Just trust Jesus, He is our high priest, and the Captain of our salvation. Praise the Lord.

The power is in the word of Christ (Luke 4:32).

32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

The power is in the gospel (Rom.1:16).

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Not in an ant illustration.

I urge you to heed the warning found in (1Tim.4:1-4) and (2Tim.4:1-4).

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Truth that sanctifies and cleanses the soul of sin can be found in the bible (Jn 8:31,32) (Jn 17:17).

Not in an ant illustration.

11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; (1Peter 4:11).

Thanks

I feel like @Blain was giving an example of what he learned from watching the ant.

I don't think illustrations like this take away from the bible. Scripture is the higher authority. I believe illustrations, songs, stories... can point to scriptural truth.

Jesus used illustrations all the time in his parables to teach the word of God and he is our example to follow correct? Where in the bible does it say he will not speak using his creations like the ant?

It sounds like you were encouraged from watching the ant. I thought the illustration you told was nice.

Actually the Bible says quite specifically:

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Blain said the power was not in the scriptures.

That is why I posted what I did.

Illustrations can be helpful I would agree, but the power is in the teaching of Gods word.

(1Cor.4:6) is so very clear.

"that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written,"

I would also add that if the word of god is perverted in any manner it does lose its saving power.

(Gal. 1:7) -

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

I must correct myself.

Blain said the scriptures have "NO POWER".

I will oppose that statement all day long.
