Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall have them.
I think it's easier to understand by rearranging some of the words around from this.

Mar 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

To this.

Mar 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, believe that ye receive them when ye pray, and ye shall have them.

Vs 23 is speaking to something and vs 24 is asking God for something.
Only it won't be faith if you don't believe you have received it when or the moment you prayed.
If you are waiting for it to manifest first, then all you are doing is hoping.
This truth falls in line with another scripture said a different way.

Luk 8:18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

If this meant everything as some suppose, then everyone would have the same problem as the rich young ruler, wouldn't they?

They wouldn't have everything, everything would have them.

You have to take all scripture into consideration in order to get the full picture, otherwise you are only getting bits and pieces. But to fully understand you need more than one verse. For example, read about Jesus’ arrest in Matthew and you will not have the full picture. Who cut off whose ear? Which ear? Point is the full picture does not appear in full detail just by reading one gospel account of the event. In the same way, we need to read more than one verse to get the full meaning on any subject.

It might say this in this verse, but if you consider other verses you’ll see that not only do you have to believe, but it also has to be in accordance to God’s Will. For example, if you pray for everyone to be saved, if God allowed it Jesus would be made out to be a liar when He said narrow is the way and few find it, that would also take away God-given freewill- there would be no point in obeying Him, and since people sin, He would have sinners in heaven. There would have been no point in Him blocking off the garden from Adam and Eve so that they could not also eat of the tree of life in their sinful state.

Your prayers have to be in accordance to Gods Will, and you have to do everything on your part that you can to promote it coming about. God opened up the gates of prison for the apostles, but it was up to them whether or not to walk out. In one instance it was good to, in another instance it was good not to- even though the gates were opened- which means we also have to follow our conscience in the matter.

No matter what verses get us excited, if we consider all of them (the complete picture), we will realize we can never treat God like a genie- we are His servants, He does not cater to us, we cater to Him.
The verses can stand alone as is and don't need help from other verses to make it the "whole council" of God. Neither do you have to find out what the will of God is.
If you will notice, it says, whatsoever WE DESIRE.
Where do you see God's desire or whatsoever He wants?
If that is true then Jesus lied, for He said, "verily", or truly. In other words, He was saying, "what I am saying to you is a true or truthful statement".
To add to or take anything from these verses, taint and pervert the truth or that which is written.

It helps if a person knows the truth about what they are asking for.

Long time ago I prayed daily for patience at my workplace. But every day became a trial for me. After a few months of this I came to the point of asking God, I said in my prayer "God, I have been praying for patience everyday for months now and all I getting is problems to deal with, so what's going on"? Suddenly I heard a stern voice in my head "How else are you going to learn!"

I asked God to cancel my prayer. That day at work everything was hunky-dory. I thought that everybody was different, they were kind and friendly. Surely they all did not change just for me. No, but I changed. My perspective and attitude had suddenly changed without realizing it.

So what happened? God altered my perspective and attitude to see problems for me to practice patience. There was nothing wrong with others and the world but my view of these things. What I am saying is that what we ask for in prayer does get answered but are we prepared to recognize it.

Sometimes we need to stop looking where we want to go, and look back at where we are coming from. By doing so, we get a better chance of seeing the truth of what we are asking from God.

Amen. Your experience is similar to mine Eromonnis. Perspective has everything to do with how we think. After realizing God was first not angry or disappointed in me for not being patient that took an enormous burden off. We are no longer condemned. Rom.8:1-2

The Bible says patience is a fruit of the Spirit and something that I could actually walk in because the Holy Spirit lives in me as a born again person. Submitting to Him and not my old manner of life and living would find the calmness and patience I desired. The Bible says when we walk in the spirit we will not fulfill the desires of our old flesh and the way we used to live according to this world.

I didn't know that it was a matter of faith. I needed to believe Him and follow. It is a daily choice to be willing to be renewed in our minds. I didn't know this. The old habits we've developed over the years make it almost impossible to even imagine they can be overcome. But they have been already. He has set us free from the law of sin and death and now we are to walk in newness of life in Christ. We have it., we need to believe and walk it out. alot of times we disagree that paragraph was very wonderfully put, can I ask you, now that Jesus ha made us right, and made us able to walk in the things of the spirit and not the things of the flesh , what Happens to us, if we make the daily choice to continue following the flesh and its deeds? does that change anything depending on whether we choose the life of the spirit, or the pleasures of flesh?

FAITH IN GOD by DonnieSwaggart

Mark 11:22-24 — “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.”

In Romans 12:3 the apostle Paul said, “As God has dealt to every man the measure of faith.” This means at the moment of conversion every believer is given or granted a measure of faith; however, the believer is to allow that faith to grow beyond just a measure.

Now the question must be asked, how does one’s measure of faith grow and mature? There are several variables to that question that every believer must know and understand. They are:

1. For faith to mature, the believer must have a proper understanding of the atonement, what Christ accomplished on Calvary’s Cross. Our faith, our focus must ever be placed in Christ and Him crucified. Let me break it down this way:

• Jesus Christ is the source of all things that
we receive from God (Jn. 14:6; Col. 2:10)

• The Cross of Christ is the means and, in fact,
the only means by which these things are given
to us (Rom. 6:3-5; I Cor. 2:2)

• The Cross of Christ, and the Cross of Christ
alone, must be the object of our faith in order
for us to receive what has been given (I Cor.
1:17, 23; Gal. 6:14).

• The Holy Spirit, who works exclusively within
the parameters of the finished work of Christ,
oversees all of this (Rom. 8:1-2, 11; Eph.
2:13-18).

All error in the church begins with a faulty understanding of Calvary; hence one’s personal faith cannot mature as it should without proper knowledge of Calvary.

2. Next, one must know the will of God, which can only be learned by the Word of God. “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom. 10:17).

3. Then comes fellowship and relationship with the Lord through prayer and Bible study, which help strengthen and develop our faith.

4. Finally faith has to be tested. The Lord will allow trials and tribulations to come our way in order to teach us faith and trust in the Lord.

The believer must also know that every attack by Satan against us is really an attack against our faith. Will we put our trust in the Lord, man, or self?

The believer must also know that every attack by Satan against us is really an attack against our faith. Will we put our trust in the Lord, man, or self?
HAVE FAITH IN GOD This phrase literally means, “have the faith of God.” The structure of the Greek shows God as the object of faith. Once again, let me state that the object of our faith must ever be Christ and Him crucified.

God has chosen to operate His work from the basis of faith. In Hebrews 11:3, the Word of God says: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” God’s vast creation was not created out of existing materials, but rather by faith. God spoke these things into existence; therefore His word carries not only power but creativity. His faith created His word; and as it regards human beings, His word creates faith.

God insists that man accepts everything done for him on the premise of faith—faith in the victory won on Calvary’s Cross. Christ must not be separated from the Cross, and the Cross must not be separated from Christ.

Faith in God ensures salvation and produces miracles. Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him: For he who comes to God must believe (have faith) that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”

If God can speak the word and create something out of nothing, then our faith in Him can turn our nothing into something.

Your salvation proves the power of faith, for it is by faith through grace that we are saved (Eph. 2:8). So the command from the Lord is, “Have faith in God.”

FOR VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU
This phrase is meant to announce a truth of great consequence. This great truth concerns faith in God. In this verse Jesus tells us what faith in God will do.

WHOSOEVER
In this one word we find that there is no discrimination with God as to who can have mountain-moving faith. It doesn’t matter if you are a preacher or a layman, anyone can have faith to move mountains.

SHALL SAY
These two words proclaim the power of proper scriptural confession. Whatever we say shows where our faith actually is, and the direction we are headed. Faith speaks; faith is never passive. True faith always speaks what the Word of God says and how it applies to one’s particular needs, which should always incorporate the will of God. Therefore, we must seek the face of God for the will of God regarding the situation we are facing.

UNTO THIS MOUNTAIN
The word mountain as it is used here is a metaphor and is not speaking of a literal mountain. The Lord used the word mountain to describe the great problems of life we all face. The Lord is actually saying that whatever we are facing is not bigger than a mountain. In effect, the Lord is saying, “All things are possible.”

BE THOU REMOVED
This statement proclaims the word and power of faith. Faith doesn’t ask how it can be done or whether it’s possible. Faith says, “Be thou removed.”

BE CAST INTO THE SEA
Faith in God not only moves the mountain, but it puts the problem in a place where it cannot harm others.

AND SHALL NOT DOUBT IN HIS HEART
The word doubt in the Greek is diakrino, which means “to judge between two.” In this case, it means to judge whether faith in God can or cannot do what it says. However, I want to impress upon you that we serve a God who can.

BUT SHALL BELIEVE
Not only are we not to doubt God, but we are to also believe what He has said in His Word. The Lord is telling us that if we have proper faith in God and we know the will of God as it regards the mountain we are facing, then we can say to any mountain “Be thou removed into the sea.” We are to believe what God says.

THOSE THINGS This speaks of our particular needs. We are to take everything to the Lord in prayer to get proper direction so we are not asking for things that are not God’s will for us.

WHATSOEVER HE SAYS
Once again the Lord is telling us to say what we want. We are to confess it, however let me state once again that a proper confession is only proper when it is aligned with the will of God.

To use as an example, someone can go around confessing day and night that they are going to be the next president of the United States, however if that’s not God’s will, it’s not going to happen.

SHALL COME TO PASS
In the Greek text, these words are in the present tense, as in “comes to pass.” The idea is that it may not happen instantly, but faith keeps believing and faith keeps confessing. As the old saying goes, “Delay is not denial.”

HE SHALL HAVE WHATSOEVER HE SAYS
If it is the will of God, and we keep believing, asking, and confessing, then the outcome is certain. Once again, let me stress that what we are believing for must be the will of God.

WHAT THINGS SO EVER YOU DESIRE
This verse is greatly misinterpreted by many Christians; we must understand that what we desire must be what God desires. If it is not that which God desires, then it’s not going to happen.

WHEN YOU PRAY
In the Greek, pray means, “To offer prayer addressed to God, to Him as the object of faith and the one who will answer one’s prayer.” If God is the object of faith, then one’s desire will be God’s will and not our will.

BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE THEM, AND YOU SHALL HAVE THEM
Believe means, “to put in trust with.” It means that we have to trust not only for our request to be granted, but also in
God’s time.

The phrase, “And you shall have them” refers to a present tense with a futuristic conclusion. He doesn’t say exactly when we shall have them, but that it will be done. We must entrust the timing to Him.

In conclusion, the Lord wants His children to “have faith in God” regarding every situation in their lives.

Many good posts.
I'd like to point out two things.
1 is that fsith working with love strengthens our fsith.
We wouldn't drop the mountain on anyone's head for example
And 2 we can't often have the faith we need until we hear what God is saying.

If that is true then Jesus lied, for He said, "verily", or truly. In other words, He was saying, "what I am saying to you is a true or truthful statement".
To add to or take anything from these verses, taint and pervert the truth or that which is written.
You say: "The verses," plural. The op gave one verse, singular.
Are you saying that the verse that tells us we don't receive what we ask because we ask with selfish, self-interested motives does not need to be understood along with the verse that says whatever you desire?

Are you saying that using both verses together to get the whole picture is adulterating, tainting and perverting the word of God?
Because it is using the one verse without the other that would be doing that...

Hi followjesus., I'm sorry not to have answered your questions yet. Haven't been on the forums lately. Got in the rooms where the mic is used and met some terrific believers and we been having wonderful times of fellowship and Bible study with about 5 people in the room. Jesus is so good and kind and loving to us. It is amazing to fellowship with Christians from all over the place here on CC.

Will go back and read your questions and get back to you. BTW., what does "props homie" mean?? Is it like rapper talk or something? I know "props homie" must be good because you gave me a rep so I'll say thank you. Blessings to you too. :)

I think you needs to see it in context.

21 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

I believe this is Jewish hyperbole. Jesus is saying the power of prayer is great but he does not mean you can fly if you truly believe you can.

THOSE THINGS
This speaks of our particular needs.

BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE THEM, AND YOU SHALL HAVE THEM
Believe means, “to put in trust with.” It means that we have to trust not only for our request to be granted, but also in God’s time.

FAITH IN GOD by
Donnie Swaggart
It dawned on me that in many of my petitions to the Lord, I believed that He had the power to complete them. However, the true question was, did I feel confident that He was attending to my need?

I began to realize that faith must believe that God is attending to the need, even as we ask Him to provide for it.

Faith isn't believing that God can do it. Faith is knowing that God will do it.

The Bible says in 1 John 5:14-15, "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him."

If we find evidence in Scripture that it is God's will and desire to do the things for which we are petitioning Him, then we can be confident that when we ask Him to perform what He has said He will do, He will do it! So, my faith goes beyond the truth that God can and moves forward to the idea that God will. Even as I ask, He has already started to meet my request.

So, as I pray relative to any situation, I bring it before the Lord in this way: "Lord, I know that what I'm asking is Your will, for I have seen that in Your Word. I'm asking for a healing in my body, and the Word says that by Your stripes, I am healed. I'm asking for Your financial provision, and the Word says that You'll supply my every need. I'm asking for Your leading, direction, and Your guidance, and the Word says that the Holy Spirit will lead me into all truth.

Lord, not only am I assured by the unalterable, immutable truth of You Word, but I also have history that I recall to my mind. I remember in the past when I was ill, and the doctors couldn't figure out what the problem was. I remember that You bought me through that, and I'm not sick today because You healed me. I remember times of financial stress, times when I didn't know how I would pay the bills, but each and every time that I faced a financial impossibility, You somehow supplied the need through sources I couldn't even imagine. I also remember when I was at a loss regarding how to proceed for many of life's circumstances and situations - when I didn't know what to do. You were ever faithful. You guided me by Your Spirit and led me in the right way and onto the path of victory."

So, now I know that God isn't just able to heal my body, meet my financial needs, or to give me the direction I need. I'm confident that God isn't just able; I know that God will!

Mark 11:23-24 - For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Promises: By placing Faith exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his Commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the Earth (Deuteronomy 28:1)

In this tremendous Chapter, we have a promise of Blessings which are absolutely unparalleled. Some may argue that the Lord did these things for Israel under the Old Covenant, but will not do them for modern Christians under the New Covenant. There is nothing in the Word of God that even remotely lends credence to such an idea. We presently have, in fact, a much better Covenant, based on better Promises than anything in the Old Covenant (
Hebrews 8:6).

In this panoply of Promises, five great things are said. They are:

1. "And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you": This literally means that the blessings of the Lord will literally chase down the individual. What a promise! (
Deuteronomy 28:2).

2. "The LORD shall command the Blessing upon you": At this moment, if we will only believe it, the Lord is commanding blessing upon us. We must believe it, expect it, and receive it (Deuteronomy 28:8).

3. "And the LORD shall make you plenteous in goods": "Plenty" is what the Lord here promises. The word "goods" means everything that we need, whatever it might be (Deuteronomy 28:11).

4. "The LORD shall open unto you His good treasure": The Lord here tells us that we Believers literally have access to the treasure house of Heaven. Again, what a Promise! (Deuteronomy 28:12)

5. "And the LORD shall make you the head and not the tail": To use an earthly vernacular, someone, regarding an Alaskan dog-sled team, has well said, "if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes." To continue to use the earthly vernacular, the Lord intends for His People to be the "lead dog" (Deuteronomy 28:13).

All of this is made possible by the Cross!

You say: "The verses," plural. The op gave one verse, singular.
Are you saying that the verse that tells us we don't receive what we ask because we ask with selfish, self-interested motives does not need to be understood along with the verse that says whatever you desire?
Yes ma'am, that is precisely what I was saying.

Are you saying that using both verses together to get the whole picture is adulterating, tainting and perverting the word of God?
That it would and does.

Because it is using the one verse without the other that would be doing that...
If that is so, then please tell me why it is okay to ADD a doctrine to this verse, which was taken from another part of the bible, while COMPLETELY IGNORING what is written in the verse(s) in question?
What part of "WHAT THINGS SOEVER YOU DESIRE..." are you not seeing, or, "...you WILL HAVE IT"?
And why do you question what the will of God is, when it is written right there in front of you?

Tell me please, if you knew me as a man who never lied, but always told the truth, and I told you that I would give you anything you wanted in a large department store, if you desired and asked me to, knowing I had the money to do it, what would you think if after you asked me for an item that I tell you, "Oh, I'm sorry, there's more to that than meets the eye. Contrary to what I said, what I meant was if I desire it and if it is MY will for it to be given, THEN I would give you anything you want. So then you ask what my will is, and I say, "IF you get it, then you will know, it is my will, and if you don't, then you will know it wasn't."?
What would you think of me then?
WHAT A LIAR,CHEAT, AND SWINDLER!!!
If it's there, then it will be done, JUST AS IT WRITTEN.

What's your take on this verse?
So Jesus was teaching his disciples when he said those words. Now, the disciples waited for Jesus to arrive because of the prophets and they belived he is the son of God. The disciples hearts were connected to the heart of Jesus. So when our hearts are connected to the heart of Jesus, we'll desire what he desires and not because we try to be like Jesus with our own efforts but Jesus is the light, the true light that changes us, instead us changing ourselves.

Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall have them.
“The phrase about removing mountains was a quite common Jewish phrase. It was a regular, vivid phrase for removing difficulties.” (Barclay)

I can testify to God removing one or two mountains in my life.

Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall have them.
The Lord is addressing his apostles. I therefore believe it is intended for those who have given up everything to follow Christ to be His disciple, to whom it applies; as well as moving mountains in the previous verse.

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
