Too often, a false dichotomy is created between intellectualism or rationalism and faith. The problem is that many educational institutions no longer teach that the bible is a historical book, which presents a history of God's involvement with man in the physical world. Many of the historical facts can be verified empirically. The bible, properly interpreted using a consistent hermeneutic, must be the foundation of any epistemology.

Whereas no amount of rational thought will bring a nonbeliever to saving faith, Holy Spirit can and does use our God given minds to break down the secular roadblocks that often hinder nonbelievers from receiving that saving faith. We must then recognize the limitations of rational thought in bringing about saving faith, and yet we can use it to strengthen our faith in times of doubt which can and does arise in our Christian lives, and in presenting a case to nonbelievers that belief in God is rational. When we recognize that our knowledge is finite, whereas God's is infinite, then we can recognize that we must trust the God who created us and all that we see, and not let logical inconsistencies hinder us from the truth. If we take the historical evidence of the bible, we recognize that God entered our world through his son Jesus Christ, who died on a cross for our sins, and was resurrected on the third day. That is all that matters. What more do we need to put our faith in Him!

Furthermore, Holy Spirit uses our rational minds to interpret scripture such that, even with noetic effects, we are able to develop and grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is through our study of the bible, prayer, and our fellowship with each other, that we develop our relationship with Jesus Christ. The stronger our relationship with Christ, the greater our discernment in receiving biblical knowledge. This is so because as we come to know the Spirit of Christ, we come to know the mind of God.

Very nicely put..."the stronger the relationship, the greater the discernment." This totally ties into I Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to Us who are being saved it is the power of God. Amen

Personally I believe every single word...beginning to end...it is the word...the word is truth...but don't look to man for all your answers...If you ernestly seek answers...revelations of understanding...ASK GOD. He is the only one that will give you all truth, without confusion, because when God reveals something to you nothing or no one can take it away.

I find the whole "Bible vs. Science" arguement to be very fallacious. There's nothing in science that disproves the Bible, not even close. The big bang? I didn't even believe that when I was an atheist. Like you, I think critically, and I question things that don't make sense. I questioned the big bang, with valid and logical questions. I was told by my teacher to stop asking questions, not because they were bad questions, but because I was making the big bang look very foolish (that wasn't my intention, I was just trying to understand it).

The secular world has been trying to explain the origins of the universe and life without God. These explainations boil down to what-ifs that they can't prove. Naturalistic explainations for how the universe somehow created itself out of nothing will always be plauged by the question "why isn't that happening on my front lawn right now?"

Meanwhile, there's loads of reasons to trust the Bible. I've yet to find anything that is not true in the Bible. There's loads of evidence that verifies the Bible, for instance, archeology, Bible prophecy, heck just how the Bible was written is a miracle when you understand such things. 40+ authors spanning 1500+ years, and you have an unprecidented unity within the Bible and no contradictions. That feat would be impossible if there was not a guiding author (God).
