You Probably Won't Be Sent to Egypt… | Christianity Today

Years ago, I toured as an opening act for Rich Mullins.
There was something about Rich's music that stirred up people's deepest
longings. I loved overhearing conversations at the autograph table; they
often turned serious and urgent.

More than once, a fan asked Rich how to discern the will of God. Rich would listen, and then offer an unexpected perspective.

"I don't think finding God's plan for you has to be complicated," he'd
begin. "God's will is that you love him with all your heart and soul and
mind, and also that you love your neighbor as yourself. Get busy with
that, and then, if God wants you to do something unusual, he'll take
care of it. Say, for example, he wants you to go to Egypt." Rich would
pause for a moment before flashing his trademark grin. "If that's the
case, he'll provide 11 jealous brothers, and they'll sell you into
slavery."

Thanks I always need a good laugh. LoL I only have 4 brothers left tho and only 3 sisters left if they could be included so I guess I won't be getting sold to slavery.

God gave me a dream about 7 years ago that has not come to fruition as yet but I still wait. Sometimes I get antsy as I don't do very much unless he keeps me busy with something but it doesn't last long and really doesn't seem to lead to much to me but lately I have been vastly busy with family members at the hospital. My brother just arrived there the other night so back to my Florence Nightingale costume I think I should switch names with my sister Florence but then she works with the elders and disabled for a living so I guess I can't.

I do feel God's urging sometimes and has led me in unexpected ways but I still feel like there is something BIG coming but 7 years is a long time. Sometimes I ask Him what I should be doing but have never received an answer so that I can prepare.

Discernment has so many fields. I find I can basically tell a person what their dreams mean at times but I'm not a seer or the like I believe.

Years ago I worked very hard in various fields in which I had never received training but never thought twice about taking them on. I used common sense and what I had picked up from others and love for those I was assisting. Now I look back to then in comparison to now and feel incapable. God gave me a message that if I looked to my history I would be missing out on my future so I am expecting He has something totally new in store for me. I am excited and He has been reassuring me that when He has a divine plan for us He provides all that we need.

Hi thespiritoftruth, I liked the article and Rich Mullins understanding of God'd will. Like Rich I believe that we should first be in tune with God's written will for our lives. And then when we are walking in His revealed will in scripture I believe the Holy Spirit will lead us to make the wisest choices of God's un-revealed will for our life. God bless!

Will means desire. Whatever God desires and which it is the acts that only produces good or you can say good fruits; but not the acts of doing good just to make yourself look good in His presence, but the acts must come from the heart.
