Scottish Presbyterian theologian T.F. Torrance.
Pneumapsuchesoma and other friends,
I recommend that you read this book which assesses the theology of Scottish theologian
T.F. Torrance.
I generally do not recommend books on non-Orthodox theology, but a well-informed
Orthodox Christian will not remain totally ignorant or unaware of trends in theology in
the non-Orthodox world. We should read about various faiths, always keeping our own
Orthodox Faith, which is really the universal Catholic Faith meant to be the Faith of all
Christians.
We can learn from the various varieties of Christianity. We should avoid the errors of the
Cults like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. We are (I am) not unaware of their
teachings.
Anyway, in this book by Elmer M. Colyer, the author discusses T.F. Torrance's "solution"
to the "Filioque" problem, and his view of the procession of the Holy Spirit. The book
doesn't say much about this, as it is a complex matter, but, he does make a beginning
reference to it that I think, people like you, Pneumapsuchesoma, may benefit from being
aware of this. You and I already know that Filioque is incorrect dogma, but we just
happen still to disagree on the Trinity controversy.
See for more information E.M. Colyer's book, section "The Procession of the Holy Spirit, cf.
pp. 233-241.
Generally, Eastern Orthodoxy is neither scientific nor anti-scientific nor un-scientific. It is
transrational, goes beyond reason, but not against it. Orthodoxy is not a philosophy, but
it uses the best philosophical insights that are out there to defend the Revealed Truths of
God in Holy Scripture IN Holy Church Tradition(s).
