If as some modern scholars say corn was not known in either european or middle eastern countries until the late 15th or early 16th centuries how is it that it is spoken of in many of the scriptures all the way back to Genesis? Is this a translation thing, please give me a definitive answer

What many know of as corn on the North American continent is actually maize.

The term corn is from the Latin cornus which simply refers the kernel of almost any grain.

  1. Genesis 27:37
And Isaac answered Esau, Behold, I have made [Jacob] your lord and master; I have given all his brethren to him for servants, and with corn and [new] wine have I sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?
Genesis 27:36-38 (in Context) Genesis 27 (Whole Chapter)

  1. 2 Samuel 17:19
And the woman spread a covering over the well's mouth and spread ground corn on it; and the thing was not discovered.

Things travel by boat an all could be a reason. I had to look it up. I was like corn. Thanks!
