Free Will doesn't matter after you join God's Team. You see the excuses for unbelievers as obvious illusions designed for them. The past is virtual. You have the choice to consider something larger than mankind.

We gave our authority for the illusions of Fallen Free Will with the tempter. It allows us to sin ..to be separated from God. It gives us every excuse possible to deny God. True freedom is ignoring the illusions and allowing God in our lives.

The lie of the tempter, that we wouldn't die, is why we are here. he represented death which equates separation from God. The tempter's lie is what leads to the illusions that disguise the spiritual. That's why Jesus said He was The Truth and The Way.

They spiritually died, became a dead free will spirit.
God was starting the test of this reality by not letting them eat from the Tree of Life (Christ)..everlasting life.
Righteous Free Will to fallen Free Will. We get righteous again by opening the door to Christ.

Genesis 3:24 says, “He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.”

"flaming sword" (God's Righteous Word) is guarding the goal of the test, Life

The cherubim hide Life so God's Righteous Word is the way to find it.

The Jews were given Law of the flesh to find Life via Righteousness

The Christians were given Law of the heart to find Life via Righteousness
