Ive been wondering how Christians know they are worshiping the correct religion

can you please explain why the christian god is any more real than Thor

and if you have any proof or anything that would support the argument
Hello Gert,

We have one thing that Bible centers around,it is the basis of what the Disciples saw and heard. It goes right to the heart of the matter,it is either true or it is false. Their claim always was that they SAW Jesus alive again on the third day after being crucified, died, wrapped in yards of linen, soaked in something like pine tar,and sealed in a tomb. They walked with Him and talked with Him for forty days afterwards, with nailed scarred hands and feet, and a place on His side that was pierced by a spear. They saw it with their own eyes,it was what they claimed and what they died for. See either history will show it is the only plausible explanation or it will not. I believe there is ample evidence that Jesus died, was buried and on the third day He did rise from the dead just as the Bible said He did.

um i am a atheist so he might not even exist or could just be a regular guy who did lie i don't know but neither do you?

the only proof you have that he even said these words were put in to a bible
when you consider the bible was written 70 years after his death

it would be like trying to quote jfk on a speech he did in the white house and trying to remember from memory 70 years later exactly what he said and getting it correct

you must have heard the nasa going to the moon before the decade is out
now from memory try to recount what jfk said
its impossible

then even if the original text is correct

you have translations errors
copying errors
plus parts of scripture early christians found too offensive and removed

and even if all these are correct and and still the same text that was produced 70 years after jesus died is still the same today

it still dosent proove that the christian god is any different to thor

niether have any proof you have stories for thor and stories for jesus
Athiest propaganda which has not been proven and does not hold water anymore. Certainly 200 years ago, these claims were valid for just about every book of the Bible, places, people, battles and even whole races and nations mentioned in Bible, yet could not be found anywhere else. However as the decades progressed, more archeaological finds have been dug up which prove the Bible was correct all along.

Hi Gert.

How about you tell us about your religion first.

What is it that you believe?

Hey Gert,

Thanks for reaching out. I just want to clear up an apparent misconception before I answer you; I worship God through Jesus Christ not a religion. Now that being said, I am a former pagan, most people would call me wiccan. So I have experience with multideistic pantheons like the Norse pantheon with Thor and Odin. I have also studied Judaism (I have a Jewish Stepfather), Buddism, Zoastrianism, New Age, Muslim, the list is kind of extensive hope you get my point.

I expect my explaination will not suffice for someone who deals only in cold hard facts (which there are no cold hard facts are there?) But I will tell you anyway. I have search almost my whole life for God, and it wasnt until I truly accepted Jesus and what He did for me and for you and for well, everyone that the burden of searching lifted. I saw everything clearer then before, my life and worldview changed DRAMATICALLY. And I didn't belong to any groups or churches I just called out to God all by my lonesome and He answered me.

Talk to Jesus, seriously and I think you'll be shocked. You dont have to do any song or dance just truly talk with Jesus and see if He answers. The only catch is it has to be in earnest. You can't trick God.

God Bless you on your search brother.

In Christ,

SeekingJC

Who knows if I am practicing the correct religion, if correctness is all that counts it seems like life would be drab and stupid, based on opposing the beliefs of others in an effort to be "correct"

Who ever said Thor wasn't real? Thor is considered a demon in my religion. I've never heard anyone in my church say that the Gods of other religions weren't real, just that they were demons.

Proof is something nobody has. Nobody knows anything, nothing is certain.

I could easily give my religion up and suppose myself as alone in a horrible world, or i could believe in God, Saints, and Angels, honestly, where do you want to live?

It makes no difference to me what you believe, I do sincerely hope you find what you are looking for, wherever and whatever that is. But I'm absolutely not going to question my beautiful traditions and my wondrous religion that saved me from a hell on earth because of bogus questions that no one can really answer.

Things like this invite doubt into our heart, questions like this help nobody. The religion doesn't need anyone to defend it. Christianity needs to be lived, not discussed. It's not a philosophy, its a way of life.

I didn't always believe in God. when I was young I considered God to be a fantasy developed by some people who had wishful thinking. Just as something to study...and likely disregard I chose to study some of the worlds biggest charmers. I called them...religion like snake charming, just simple tricks. I read and discarded most of the famous or infamous religious teachings. Some I thought had good ideas. Others I just thought were hogwash. I had read through the bible during this time also. I had some questions about the bible I couldn't answer along with a few other questions about the Koran and others. One thing stood out to me.

I can not tell the future. I began to see the bible as a unique piece of literature because there were prophecies so accurate that I was certain these things had to have been written after the events took place and not before. I began to study the chronology of these books and much to my surprise the evidence is very clear. Events were described in amazing detail in some cases hundreds of years before they happened. I had to face this fact. Men as normal as you or I seemed to have very accurate knowledge of events that would occur long after their lifetimes were over. All of these men declared that each of these prophecies came from the same source. I found myself unable to come to any reasonable conclusion besides accepting that what they declared had to somehow be the truth.

IN my own very biased way I was seeking truth. What I was looking for was some way to refute all these seemingly intelligent people who believed in these things that I was certain was just a pile of manure.

This book, that I have come to trust now; tells me that the only religion that pleases God is to look after orphans and widows.
There is no religion that saves anyone. God alone is my salvation. God is my strength. God is my righteousness. God is my holiness. God is my defender and my life. Most people in the world would call me Christian because I have died to sin through Jesus death and the life I live today I live by Jesus resurrection. I make no claim to any religion. When asked I state simply, God is I who I am. I am His.

I understand where you are coming from. I was an atheist for quite a few years. I did my own thing. Which was mostly drinking, partying and trying to save the world from an ecological disaster. I found it very unsatisfying.

So I got involved in some cults, explored lots of different religions. I danced with Sufis, meditated with Buddhists, sat under Hindu gurus. I even got involved in theosophy, where I found out that evil was real, even if God wasn't.

But God was after me, and he sent many people to tell me the difference God made in their lives. I knew it was real for them. I knew they believed what they believed.

BUT it wasn't true for me!!

I think that is what you are saying???

So I started reading the Bible, just for argument's sake, to say I had done it. I really didn't get what it was trying to say. I believed by this time there was "a god." I just didn't know his name.

Then a man sat down with me and talked to me about repenting from my wicked ways. (My words, not his - he was a kind and gentle soul!)

Suddenly, I realized that Jesus was the Saviour of the world. Then I realized Jesus was MY Saviour. Then I realized I did have to repent, and I gave up drinking forever (33 years dry this month) and it really was a gift from God.

Then God spoke to me. That was a voice like no other. You didn't disobey. He told me to serve him the rest of my life. I have, and he has always been there for me, leading, guiding, encouraging, chastising when needed. And bringing peace and forgiveness into my heart.

And changing me into his image.

Jesus Christ is the only God.

My testimony is all I can give you, since you don't believe the Bible. After 33 years, you know you are either following a lie or the truth. I know I am following "the Way the Truth and the Life."

If you ask anyone who knew me before I believed in Jesus, they are AMAZED at how different I am now. I did not make those changes, becoming a kinder, more loving person. Only God could do that.

As for God answering prayers. Well, he is not Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. He is GOD and he is in control. He answers prayers in ways we cannot see or imagine. But never on demand.

My prayer is that you have come here searching and we can all share a word, a testimony or a prayer with you. I will be praying for you, that soon, God will also be come real, and you will repent and follow Jesus Christ all the days of your life.

Religion means nothing. God is everything. When the Christ comes back to rule over the Earth He isn't going to care what religion you claim to be. He will care what is in your heart and how you lived your life and if you repented once you discovered the truth.

Christian Muslim Jewish... these identities only serve yourself. They mean nothing to the One True God who sees past all of your labels and your lies and your faults and see what is truly in your heart of hearts.

Hope this helps!

Ever heard the term..."can't see the forest for the trees"....?

This is the "religion" of Christianity. And even among Christian religions there are thousands of trees (religions).

The fact is...the truth of who Christ is is not a religion.

If you cannot see God for the religions surrounding Him, then look for Him first. Or stop looking at religions for the answer.

Best answer I've seen yet! But here is the PROOF you've been looking for in God's own words. Here are the facts presented by God himself. "The test of any religion or Prophet is Prophecy". If ever, even 1 prophecy of any religion or Prophet fails they are false, simple huh! So far all religions & prophets of other religions have all failed prophecies, proving them to be false.
The word of God has no failed prophecies! It has a 100% accuracy rating, PROVING it to be THE correct religion.
Here is the sad news tho, the so called Church today is filled with false prophets & money grabbers. It is a den of thieves & liars so be careful who you listen to. May God Bless you in your search

You ask for proof, but are not willing to get the answer you want by seeking it the way you are asked to.

If someone told you that you could have a million dollars just by opening a door...would you open it? Or would you say give me proof of the million dollars or I will not believe it is there.

In other words....you refuse to get the million dollars and will NEVER have it because you refuse to simply open it like you were asked to.

Until a person is convicted of sin, judgement to come and eternal death it is all mind games. Until then, they won't be ready to embrace Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, who died for their sins, bore the wrath of God due them and saves them from eternal damnation unto eternal Life.

Well, Thor (Thunor, Vingnir, Vingthorr, Hlorrithi, etc.) may have had a euhemeristic origin as a real human being. I think the overarching theory goes that mythology developed from real life and folklore developed from mythology. Take a look at the caesars. They were all real human beings, but they were worshipped as gods at their deaths and some even before their deaths. Another example is ancestor worship in ancient China. At any rate, the accounts of Thor vary, so it really depends on which account you mean. Do I believe that there is a powerful being who rides across the sky in a chariot drawn by two goats and from whose hammer the thunder comes? No.

What's interesting to note is that these gods' roles changed with time. Thor was originally a god of thunder, but then he became a sort of fertility god. His power extended to all weather patterns, because he was worshipped primarily by farmers while Odin was worshipped by the upper class. So these changes can be linked to changes within society. While these "gods" may have existed as human beings once upon a time, society's perception of them has certainly changed based on the needs and desires of that society. So whatever has been passed down to us about them is likely not true, especially given the rather quaint and out-moded view of the universe. For example, Thor creates a star from Aurvandill's toe.

In short, I feel that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is much more worthy of our belief than one who rides a chariot across the sky with goats pulling it and creates stars from toes and controls thunder with a hammer and then changes all of a sudden when society requires him to serve a new function.

And was that candy designed or did it just evolve?
no crossnote - the real question - does it even exist.

dude is no longer with us.
no apparent interest in being saved at this time.
maybe somewhere down the road.....
