I have encountered Christians who say that they sin every day. One preacher did not think it was possible to live without sin. Can a Christian live the rest of his life without sinning? Can a Christian go a day without sinning?

I Corinthians 10
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
(NKJV)

Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
(NKJV)

Galatians 5:16 teaches that as we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. It seems counterintuitive, but endeavoring not to sin preoccupies the individual with sin and eventually leads to its practice. Setting your heart and mind on things above...seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness...should be the Christian's focus.

God's grace is such that we've been saved by accepting the gift offered by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That grace however, at this time anyway, does not remove our sin nature. It is up to us to endeavor to avoid sin, yet even so, I've never met anyone who has become perfect in that regard, including myself. Show me someone who says they no longer sin and I'll show you a liar, which is sin.

After we individually complete the mortal portion of our lives, we will be freed from that sin nature, praise God!

Yes --it is possible for a true Christian to go a day without sinning -------but not much longer than that --in my view -if you tell a lie your in sin ---as a lie comes under the law of bearing false witness -----

Commandment #9
9. Thou shall not bear false witness

from Google -----
Biblical passages One of the Ten Commandments is "thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour"; for this reason, lying is considered a sin in Christianity.

I have witnessed Many Christians say OH __I just told a little fib -----I didn't hurt anybody ------

Well Folks ---there is no such thing as a little lie or a fib ---A lie is a lie period ----

Here is the thing ----Satan still has full access to true Christians -----Satan puts thoughts in your mind ---so in order to not sin you need to be able to cast down evil thoughts that come into your mind -----and replace them with God's word ---so you stay focused on God not your bad evil thoughts ------

The scripture warns us about strongholds of the mind -------

2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

This is our job to practice taking every bad thought captive and and cast it from our thoughts --so we can stay away from allowing the thought to sin take hold ----

God's Grace provided His Word for us to put into practice so we might be able to control ourselves to stay on the right track as much as we can -----

Not one of us will ever be sinless in our lifetime -------

We do have God's Grace to call on ----God's power to resist is there for us in our weakness ------

1696007794104.jpeg

You win or loose the battle of sinning in your mind ------

1696007984434.jpeg

God said to Cain -----after he killed his brother ------the law not to commit murder was not in place yet so it was not counted to Cain as a sin ----as where there is no law there is no sin -------

1696009609578.jpeg
But from his bad action came a consequence and God's Warning to Cain --

and NOTICE -----what God says -----you Must Master it --------so we do have the ability to Master staying out of sin -----by doing what God says to do in His Word to master it -------it takes practice and hard work to discipline the mind and stay focused on God's Word -----

We humans don't have the stamina to stay the course ------

Does going without lying seem like a big thing? If the Nazis aren't banging on your door and asking if you've hidden any Jews in the wall, then is there any day to day or week to week compulsion to lie?

Not all lying is bearing false witness against your neighbor. One could lie about how much money he has in his bank account. He isn't lying about his neighbor. And the New Testament scriptures say to put away falsehood and let every man speak truth to his neighbor.

You can forget how much money you have in the bank and tell your wife wrong, but that is not the same as intentionally lying.

this is from Got questions --read all here

https://www.gotquestions.org/false-witness.html

The Bible calls bearing false witness lying (Proverbs 14:5) and compares a man who bears false witness against his neighbor to a violent weapon (Proverbs 25:18). Lies harm people.

A false witness is one who stands up and swears before others that something untrue is true, especially with the intention of hurting someone else or ruining his reputation. This happened to David (Psalm 27:12), Jesus (Matthew 26:60; Mark 14:56), and Stephen (Acts 6:13). When the wicked Queen Jezebel wished to procure a vineyard for her sulking husband, King Ahab, she employed two false witnesses. Naboth, the rightful owner of the vineyard, was seated in an honorable place on a day of fasting, but “then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, ‘Naboth has cursed both God and the king.’ So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death” (1 Kings 21:13). What the “scoundrels” said against Naboth was absolutely untrue; they were bearing false witness with impunity and with the queen’s blessing. As a result, an innocent man was killed. When a person is righteous and his enemies can find nothing with which to blame him, bearing false witness is a common weapon.

The lies told by a false witness come from the sinful human heart—along with murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, slander, and evil thoughts (Matthew 15:19). Jesus said that man is defiled by these evil things that come from the heart. The only possible cure for an evil heart that bears false witness is to receive a new, pure heart, which can only be given by God (Ezekiel 36:26). When a person is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, he will be like a fresh spring or a fruitful tree or a budding vine, bursting with good things (John 7:38; Psalm 1:1–6; John 15:4–5). The old is gone, and the new takes its place (Ephesians 4:22–24). Those who are in Christ have a new heart that speaks the truth: “Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25). A person who bears false witness is controlled by the flesh rather than by the Spirit of God, and he should repent of that sin and turn to Christ.

"There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him...a lying tongue...a false witness who breathes out lies..." (Proverbs 6:16–19).

The command in the 10 commandments is a specific form of lying, as this article indicates. If you look up the Hebrew Naboth was accused of blessing God and the king, but they may have used that euphemistically, since they may not have actually even wanted to use the word for 'curse' in that context. Job's wife told him to bless God and die.

The holy Spirit talked about this through John in 1st John. There were those saved that didn't believe they sinned any more. God told them if we say we have no sin we deceive our self's and the truth is not in us. Just another reason why He also added if we confess our sins blah blah blah. So nothing has changed. There are still some that believe they don't have sin or even have to sin. A why do we need Christ again? Just to get a free ride to heaven? :) So this new man we put on which is the real us. See God sees me right now and forever as if I never sinned simply because I believe in His son Yeshua/Jesus Christ. Righteousness. He sees me "through" Christ. its done by what Christ did already. So why focus on something that our Father does not see? Sin was taken care of on the cross no?

Did not our brother say its no longer I that sin but sin that is me. See we are born from above yet this flesh we still "all" live in has not been changed. Its exactly the same as it was before we were born again and loves to sin we just now are not slaves to it. So yes we can go a time with out sinning yet we all sin. One would think the 12 (with Paul) and the 120 would have lived without sinning no? They would be the greatest example.

This will be some what vague but.. If someone is not sinning....oh then I look at their life and man I have so many questions as to why I am NOT seeing? Yeah there would be nothing between you and God. Then why don't we see? If God said something aka truth and what if we say "nope I don't believe that". Would that in Gods eyes be sin? If God made you a promise and you will not believe it. Is that doubt a sin? Its one thing to be blind and as Christ said if you were blind you have no sin. ooh but some say they see their sin remains.

See the NEW TESTAMENT? That is "Christianity". What was happening there should be happening in our life's every day. Oh and praise God it does in some groups others we see nothing just talk not works. Faith with out works is dead. God has not changed. Talk about not sinning yet then something in our life's is stopping God from doing what He promised. It's doubt. That simple "I don't believe". It stops GOD every time. How we talk about the sweet holy Spirit and in others also effects this.

See just quote "these signs shall follow them that believe" Just quote Peter and John "its faith in that name that healed this man". GOD spoke and they just believed. Who so ever believes. Truth we don't want to hear it. No signs in my life? Duh its not my fault...it must have changed... hmm yeah that's it.. it changed and it was only for them. Them being "who so ever". Oh wait I know "what Christ really meant to say".

So praise God you say you don't have to sin. Yet something is still missing.

In actions alone, maybe, but not in our thoughts.
I am no longer under the curse of sin(the inner man), but the outer man is still under the curse. That's why flesh & blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
Paul explained he had a thorn in his flesh (caused him to sin) to keep him humble. I can't imagine that demon giving him a single day off.
With him being an apostle & led by the Spirit of God, you might think he would have a day or two, but no. This is why he says "O wretched man that I am!" And this is why God tells him "my grace is sufficient for you."
This is why "by grace we are saved", because sin is constantly beating on our door. This is also why it says we have no reason to boast. I'm convinced if we could live a single day without sin, we would ruin it by taking pride in it.

What does this have to do with the topic of whether a believer can go without sinning?

If you read carefully you'll see even John the Apostle sinned. We will sin until we see Christ and are perfected by that grace--but the plan, it seems, is we will sin less and less as He increases and we decrease.

What scripture do you have in mind?
They will likely cite Romans 7, but that is the life of a "pre-Christ" Jew.

Example 1: Romans 7 says it describes the life of someone "in the flesh", but Romans 8:9 says "you are not in the flesh but in the spirit".

There are more examples we could look at, but I'll leave it there for now.

Paul, as a Christian, says, "my conscience is clear"--no, he wasn't aware he was sinning.

This is why he says "O wretched man that I am!"
Oops!

Right afterward, he says, "Who will deliver me from the body of this death!?"
The answer, the Deliverer, comes, so he exclaims, "Thank God through Jesus Christ!"

Now that he has Christ, he says "my conscience is clear" (1 Co 4:4).

Remember the man in Romans 7 can't keep the Law, but he says he keeps the Law in Ro 8:4.

Also, he says "no covetous man who is an idolater has any inheritance in God's Kingdom"--but the man in Romans 7 is completely conquered and "killed" and "enslaved" by, and is a "captive" of, covetousness. That's not Paul the Christian, that was his estate prior to Christ.

And this is why God tells him "my grace is sufficient for you."
That was what Christ told him when he prayed to have the thorn in his flesh removed... but the thorn in his flesh was put there TO PREVENT HIM FROM SINNING... so why are you interpreting "thorn in the flesh" as "sin"? That would mean you're saying, "Christ made Paul sin... to prevent him from sinning," which makes no sense.
