I thought Saint Nicholas was actually a real person its just americans and coca-cola who've embellished the story. lol

We can all do as Saint Nicholas did which was give gifts (anonymously) to poor children during the hardest times (middle of winter) and pray they'll be blessed.
I don't know that he was gone for giving specifically to children. I think some of the daughters of the poor were being sold off as slaves, so he gave money for their dowries so that they could marry.

I think some Canadians may lie to their children about Santa, too. Are there other countries where it is widespread for the parents to tell their children that Santa delivers presents at Christmas? Does the storyline change a bit between countries?

What if I tell them Santa is fiction, but still do all of the fun Santa stuff?

This reminds me of when I was growing up. Dad was anti- Santa and we all knew it. As we got older he would still harp on it. So one year my mother did a painting of Santa. She just liked the picture. She knew dad would have a fit if she put it up so she snuck it up on the front door an entrance we never used. Dad said nothing all season. Then one day they drove past the front of the house and there was Santa. Mom said nothing but dad said "you thought you got away with it. I knew it was there the whole time." lol

Fast-forward to when my nephew was about 3 yrs old. My father is good at doing voices and my sister asked him to go in the bedroom and call my nephew and act as Santa. Well grand-kids are always spoiled and my father agreed to do Santa. My nephew wanted a Thomas the train toy which my sister got him and was going to sneak it under the tree. But as my nephew was talking to "Santa", he turned just as his mother was coming into the room. He gasped and held out the phone to me and said animatedly "here Auntie, YOU talk to Santa Claus!!" and ran to see his toy. rofl I have it on video and we pull it out every once and a while and get a laugh. So much for Santa!! lol

Seems like an american thing.
After all The Night before Christmas was a poem that was written by an American (New Yorker) C Clement Moore for his children. I guess it just caught american children's imagination.

Americans seem not to know much how Christmas is celebrated outside their own nation. lol

Daughters of the poor have to make their own way in life, it's just a fact of life.
If you are daughter of a rich family, of course everyone wants to marry you, and you don't need to work just be a lady of leisure, and have nannies for your children and look pretty lol

Secret gift giving is what people take from Saint Nicholas story. He was a very wealthy bishop.

In the UK its not Santa Claus its Father Christmas. Father Christmas will usually be the grandad cos parents aren't wealthy enough to spoil their children lol. Of course children won't know that, it's the whole not knowing what the right hand is doing from the left thing that people enjoy.

When the wise men gave gifts to Jesus, he was just a baby/toddler and it was his birthday and his mum and dad opened them and they weren't anonymous gifts. They may not have personally known the Magi/Wise men but they knew of Jesus. They couldnt have afforded those gifts, they could barely offer the right sacrifice at the temple.

I have read about Canadians doing this too. Do European or Commonwealth countries lie about Santa to their children with other stories.

In all my yeaes in Asia I do not recall a single picture of Santa Claus at the mall or anyone dresses as Santa Claus. Christmas is a Christian holiday that involves going to church. In Indonesia, they have big meals. The Christians who work at a company may have a Christmas event--a church service, basically, where maybe the Christians accounting department sing one song. You sing Christmas hymns about Christ, not songs about Santa, trees, and snow. There is a guest preacher. After it is over, then you eat. Churches have big events, too. Larger churches may not have the meal. Some churches give out a box of food, a meal. The tune to Ode to Joy (Beetoven's 9th, the EU), is instrumental Christmas music

Is it a sin to lie to your own little gullible children, who trust you, and convince them that a magic fat man in a read suit flies around the world on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, goes down all the chimneys in the world and delivers all the children gifts over night?

Is it wrong to teach your children to write prayers as letters, materialistic prayers asking for toys, to a deceased, but heavily venerated saint?

If you tell your children lies about a magic fat man flying around the world, then tell them that God raised Jesus from the dead, how will that impact their faith when they find out you were lying about the magic fat man?
more importantly would you consider it's a sin to withhold the truth from your children. I can think of many situations I have.

But Remember Samuel was told to say he was going to make a sacrifice at Jesse's place, but the more important reason Samuel was going to anoint king David

God actually told him what to say. It was truthful but not everything was told.

Samuel Anoints David
16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”

The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.

The important part of a child growing up is, there mind and imagination is still developing, it's important for a child to develop an imagination, it helps there mind to develop where they learn to distinguish between fantasy and reality,

If we told our children everything is a lie they would become unimaginative and probably spoil so many other children's dreams, plus they would probably become legalistic.

In a time when there developing an imagination this would not be Good.

And beside this I've always told my kids when they asked me will Santa bring me gifts this year, I say well you never know he could do,

Or you could say hey you might get a visit of santa if your Good of course that Santa would be me 😜

You do not have to lie to children to help their imagination grow or for them to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

Little boys need to be brave, so does that justify kidnapping them?

there's a difference between lying and witholding the truth.

For instance if your child asked you will father Christmas come to bring me gifts this year, and you said I don't know he could do, but you withhold the information you were going to be father Christmas how would that be lying.

If your child said how would father Christmas fit down the chimney and you said I don't know work it out for yourself how would that be lying,

If you said are you going to leave some mince pies out for father Christmas But you withhold the information that you where going to be father Christmas how would that be lying.

Sooner or later year after year when your kid stays awake but never see father Christmas it's then when the child starts to distinguish between fantasy and reality which is normally the age of 7.

But the good part they learn to distinguish with compassion and humility..

I take it you don't have kids ?

From Google -----

Lying is only one of many forms of deception, which occurs anytime you knowingly allow someone to believe something that is not true. And, yes…lies of omission (intentionally withholding information) are deception, too.

I say --------Deception comes from Satan not God ------we are to display a Christ like Character -----so is deceiving your children displaying a Christ like character ?????????????????????---

How wrong you are -------
well seeing as your good parent would you like to share your experience when you stumbled upon an inappropriate moment to share something with your child, baring in mind toddlers haven't developed any empathy

I have seen Millennials use these lousy redefinition of the word on TV. Not telling someone something is not lying.

If your sentences were in one place, were more coherent, and didn't say the opposite of what you intended, then I might guess what you mean.

Toddlers don't usually call their parents liars. They are usually still learning to talk. If you don't lie to children and tell them a magic fat man gives them presents, then they usually won't believe that.

is this coherent enough for you. Have you ever spent anytime with a toddler trying very hard to make them believe something they don't want to 🙂
