I don't think this is actually about herbs at all.

It's comparing poisonous people/ideas to poisonous roots (meaning that poison can spread).

Poisonous roots do not worship false gods.
Doctrine is to be based on what the Bible says not what we think. The Bible is clear that we are not to have any thing with poisons in it. The text mention Gall and wormwood which are poisonous. When Christ was offered Gall and wormwood on the cross He refused it.
Deuteronomy 29:18
(18) Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Matthew 27:34
(34) They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Weed & tobacco has poisons in it and according to this we should not take it.

Do you guys actually read your bible? Scripture clearly teaches that we are to adhere to the laws of the land except when those laws contradict scripture. So if marijuana is illegal in your country then, as a christian, you should have nothing to do with it.

1 Peter 2: 13 -17 reads as follows:

"Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. [Act] as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but [use it] as bondslaves of God. Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king."

I'm wondering if smoking weed is a sinful act? I did some research and it turns out that smoking weed is far safer than drinking or smoking. Not even close to the damaging effects on the body. What does the bible say? Or what are your thoughts?
Yes, it is a sinful act because its a drug.

Lots of good reasons why not to.
But I have always believed the most important reason to consider if something is good or bad?
Is the reason why one is asking if they can.
Because the reason of the heart is the one that matters the most before God.

We need to be fair in presenting a balanced view of all substances. If christians shouldn’t smoke pot because of the “high”, then they shouldn’t take anti-depressants either. Just because one is legal and the other is illegal, if being “high” is the problem and what others call it sin, then don’t get high. Not everyone feels that way..

The Bible says that God wants us to have a clear mind and to be self controlled. When we fail to do this, it opens a door for Satanic attack. When one's mind is clouded by marijuana and inhibitions are lowered, a person is more likely to engage in sinful act/behavior that they might not ordinarily do..

While I totally agree that we should obey the laws of the land and not be under the influence of anything but the holy spirit, I absolutely disagree with you using scripture to support your personal opinions rather than forming your opinions around scripture.

That Deuteronomy verse is quite obviously not about weed. I can only assume you did a google search for herb + bible and just posted whatever you found. I suppose it's possible that you are a literalist and things like analogy do not register with you, but I've never picked that up before from your previous posts so I'm rather surprised by it now.

There is a Biblical case to be made against the use of drugs. You are not making it.

Smoking weed makes you stupid...

The bible is written a long time ago.
Cannabis was around, and was being used in the middle east, during the time the new testament and many of the books in the old testament were written.

I do not smoke weed, I use to.

However, there simply is no place saying it's a sin. Is it? Maybe. Maybe Not.

Just like smoking cigarettes. It's not a sin. And you can't say "Don't harm your temple." ... if you use a microwave, drink diet soda, chew mint gum, you are intentionally harming your body. ;)

No maybe to it, smoking weed and cigarettes is a sin. You cant use examples of other sins to justify a particular sin. Two wrongs dont make a right. The bible makes it clear that being intoxicated just for the sake of a buzz is wrong. The body is the temple, and though none of us is close to being perfect, we should at least make some kind of sincere attempt to take care of it. We all harm our bodies in different ways, but just because we all do it doesnt make it any less of a sin.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Witchcraft
φαρμακεία
pharmakeia
far-mak-i'-ah
From G5332; medication (“pharmacy”), that is, (by extension) magic (literal or figurative): - sorcery, witchcraft.

In ancient times (as well as now) drug use was always associated with the occult.
I know all I need to know from the above verse

Drunkenness
G3178
μέθη
methē
meth'-ay
Apparently a primary word; an intoxicant, that is, (by implication) intoxication: - drunkenness.

Witchcraft (its were we get our word pharmacy from, which is talking about drugs)
G5331
φαρμακεία
pharmakeia
far-mak-i'-ah
From G5332; medication (“pharmacy”), that is, (by extension) magic (literal or figurative): - sorcery, witchcraft.

I can't remember the name or location but in the news awhile back it was talking about how they found a jar of cannabis buried in some princess's tomb.

God gave us just Ten Commandments. Sin (to God) is breaking just one or
more of the Ten. Christ reconfirmed it in two - Love God (the first four) Love your fellow people (the last six).
Also “What you put in your body does not defile you, it is what comes out of your heart.”

After the simple Ten, which none us can keep, there comes Moses Laws
and the “commandments of men”.

So Tabaco, alcohol, and pot are not sin’s but are undesirable human habits.
We have a good friend going through cancer therapy and the “pot” helps relieve her pain. I can’t stand the stuff but it still does not break one of the Commandments.
Have a wonderful day

Many people said it. But will give my 2 cents (not that you all care..lol)

1. It is illegal, hence it is a sin
2. It is a drug which if was given by a doctor, would be ok. But taken just to get high, is a sin (not unlike alcohol, It is used all the time in scripture as a medicinal tool)
3, Also like alcohol, If your drunk, your in sin. Unlike alcohol. You can't drink a few drinks and still not be drunk. Weed works on your mind alot faster.

I think it is always a sin to take something into your body that alters your mood, unless it is prescribed by a doctor.

I heard that the active ingredient in marijuana (THC) has been shown to be useful for some patients who suffer from chronic pain, even in those diseases, a minority of patients actually derive a benefit that is without unwanted side effects..
The act of smoking marijuana is fraught with so many adverse side effects that it really isn't useful in treating symptoms in any specific disease for the vast majority of sufferers..And i think there is no such thing as "medical marijuana"..
