The Bible tells us to love one another. Shocking. To treat others as we would like to be treated. What were they thinking?! I know it goes a lot deeper than that and the parables use what would have made sense at the time but the lessons remain the same; lessons on living right, taking care of each other and thanking He who made it all possible.

So outdated, I know...

The Bible is the only thing that's in context, always. We can only measure Truth and Love by it and whole host of other things. The world always changes its values etc. - but God's Word stands firm and never changes.

I've read literally hundreds of thousands of books. The Bible is the only one that has stayed relevant and in fact is more relevant than when I first read it through in 1981.

The only comment I would add to all these fine posts, is that you need to meet the author of the book in order to see the relevance and application to our lives.

May I invite the OP to PM me, and we can talk about why Jesus Christ is the greatest and only need for post-modern society. Praying you will come to know our Lord and Saviour, and the Bible will come alive for you!

the Bible is inspired, inerrant, and eternal. Psalm 119:89 says, "your Word is eternal, it stands firm in the heavens", and, "the unfolding of your Word gives light" (vs 130). The Bible is unchanging because God is unchanging. We need to believe it and behave it.

Peace be with you and yes, it is for unbelievers and they may be consist also of Christian believers, who have not welcomed the Gospels. They are not Helped by the HOLY SPIRIT, who teaches and they are also 'ever learning but never come into the knowledge of Truth'.

Until today or whenever, there will be only the given New Testament by our 'author and finisher of our faith' and who have gone away to a far away land to be crown as King of kings'. Initially this was established by GOD the FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, even to the shedding of many innocent blood.
We can consider them in a simple way, kind of similar to a worldly contract method but this is of GOD made with all redeemed mankind through HIS SON and the HOLY SPIRIT. They were called, when struggling and in helplessness and hopelessness. They are those who have come to believe and have accepted all that is written in the contract, the 'terms and conditions'/'rules and regulations' which also calls them all to 'abide' in order to 'bear fruits'. .

Apart from staying faithful to all of these things in the New Covenant, from time to time, generations after generations that are also quoted to be 'difficult to follow' by our MESSIAH Himself and further more quoted that towards the end 'many will give up their faith and start hating each other', then one may 'have accepted another Christ and another spirit'.

I just wanted to add an example that points that the Bible is eternally relevant.

Deuteronomy 8:28 NLT
8 “When you build a new house, you must build a railing around the edge of its flat roof. That way you will not be considered guilty of murder if someone falls from the roof.
One might ask why it's necessary to build a fence on your roof. But, in cultural and historical context, it makes sense. People would often live on the roof in those days. And the fence would prevent them from accidentally falling off the roof.

We must put scripture in its cultural and historical context to extract it's full and permanent relevance. A modern day example of the relevance of Deuteronomy 8:28 would be, do not leave little children unattended in the back yard when there's a swimming pool unless there is a fence around it.

The bible was crafted quite a long time ago and I do think some teachings apply to today, but it seems like much of it was meant for the time it was written, and today it's hard to apply what it said in the bible since our worlds are vastly different. It's like the same ways laws change to fit today's world.

The bible is a lot of things, such as, a manual, a memoir, a guide, a romance, a thriller, a suspense, a mystery, a catalog, a ledger, a self-help, a love story, a diary, a tool, a blueprint, a testimony and 'a plan.' The list of what it can be goes on and I'm sure that others will want to add to the list. For some the bible may be a fantasy, a fiction and for others it is 'The Holy Gospel.' It has a beginning, a middle and an end. Just about everyone will eventually seek something out of life and look for a book that will help them find what they are looking for and the majority want a book that leads to a 'happily ever after' or one that offers a 'promising future' thru 'hope.' Even science fiction can be written with a gleam of hope for a better future in some aspect of make believe.
Now, death on the other hand, is in the very context of yesterday, today and tomorrow and books written on that topic are high on the reading list. But the only book that offers a promise of eternal life is in a catalog of books whose author has been, is and will always be in the context of love, truth and of 'eternal life.' That book is 'The Bible.' The only thing that is out of context is mankind and that took place in the Garden of Eden, but that is what the whole plan of salvation in the bible is all about. To reconcile that which went out of context and bring it back into context with our heavenly Father through His Son and our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

The Bible is also a history book, a book of poems and prophecies and laws.

Malachi 3:6 - For I Am the Lord, I change not; Matthew 5:18 - For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. If God is unchanging and his Word will never change then it applies to all people, from Adam and Eve to our time. God's Word is needed now more today than ever before. People's hearts are more evil today than they have ever been.
