Are we called to be a spiritual Rambo? What is "patient endurance" for the Chrisitan?

This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. (Rev 14:12, NIV)

When I was a younger man I might’ve preached a message on this verse that went something like this: “You gotta hang tough for Jesus. You gotta suck it up and stick it out or he’ll reject you.”

Here is the rest of that reaching...

Well think of it this way, as a child for most of us one of the hardest lessons to learn was to wait. As a kid if I was in a waiting room with nothing to do waiting was the hardest thing in the world to sit there being quite and wait. To God we are little children and so I can easily see how a child in their nature can easily represent a Christian as well, to wait upon the Lord is perhaps the hardest yet the most rewarding thing and it does take great endurance to be able to patiently wait and trust in him.

But even I have seen how when one waits on the Lord that is when he is working in us the most. For instance I long to be with him very badly, I don't care what kind of rewards I may have in heaven I don't care if I am ever strong or if I was a good Christian my heart and eyes are blind to all of this all I see is him he is all I want and not just my heart and soul cries out to him I even feel my own fleshly body longing for him. But it isn't time yet for me to be in his arms and so I wait as patiently as I can enduring every minute that I am not physically in his arms even though it is torture for me.

Patient endurance is persevering in self control in the fear of GOD.

and [for] this same [reason], and [by] applying all diligence, supply in your faith, excellence, and in excellence, knowledge, and in knowledge, self-control, and in self-control, patient endurance, and in patient endurance, godliness, 2 Peter 1:5-6

I love that scripture..and the rest that goes with it too! ...self-control is a fruit of the spirit...not something we conjure up in our flesh....I believe that is called will-power... It's through His grace and knowledge that we have His promises fulfilled in us as His divine nature is exhibited in us!!

Great scripture..thanks for posting it!

He is awesome!

2 Peter 1:2-9 (NASB)
[SUP]2 [/SUP] Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
[SUP]3 [/SUP] seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
[SUP]4 [/SUP] For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
[SUP]5 [/SUP] Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,
[SUP]6 [/SUP] and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,
[SUP]7 [/SUP] and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
[SUP]8 [/SUP] For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
[SUP]9 [/SUP] For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

Patient endurance is persevering in self control in the fear of GOD.
