An affirmative "NO!" here.
Most people have no idea what spiritual doors they are opening themselves up to. It is not the stretching that's the problem, it's the religion - and you cannot separate the two. Yes, you can do normal "Fitness" - but this does not include labored breathing, suggestive stretching, and clearing of the mind to bring you to a state of self hypnosis (and ultimately demonic possession). Additionally, as Hindu guru's will tell you themselves - Christianity and Yoga cannot coexist. It just means Christians are either mystical gurus, or just plain "doing it wrong". There is no Christian Yoga | Sulekha Creative

I would HIGHLY recommend anyone into this, or thinking about to prayerfully read and consider this:

Yoga is an exercise with meditation to get one "closer" to their inner self. Many say it is their inner god. Yoga in Christianity is part of the New Age movement to where one focuses on their self and not the Lord. Of course there is nothing wrong with stretching and poses as a form of exercise, but to do yoga as part of a meditation process is not biblical.

Yoga comes from Hinduism and yes it is a spiritual discipline. Each posture is designed to worship a particular Hindi diety................
If that is true, being as I have no idea, clearly it is not okay.

i'm not trying to be argumentative or condescending, i just wonder why some of us would be allowed to do certain things, and others not be allowed to do them.
Because you're weak and might stumble.

me, personally ?

doesn't make sense. the poses are for gods... no one should be doing them unless they want to honor those gods, no matter how "strong" their faith in Christ. in fact, the stronger your faith in Christ and the better your understanding of your faith... the less likely i think you would be to involve yourself in the direct practice of poses made specifically to glorify deities from another faith or religion.

I am specificly asking if Christians should or should not engage in yoga. Yoga was designed to work with Hinduism. The poses or postures in yoga along with breathing techniques and meditation were designed to worship specific Hindu deities and open chakras, get in touch with the Kundalini spirit ( a snake that wraps around your spine which is a demon) and bring enlightenment. It is to help a person gather the supreme cosmic energy and achieve a "god consciousness.

Each posture or "asana" are "prayer movements" specifically worships a Hindu deities and help the "energy flow" or prana, purify nerve channels. For example, the cobra pose helps students "become the cobra".

Honestly, how does this please God?

I don't reckon I've ever heard of specific position that I can put my body in that will open me up to satanic attack. What if I do it by accident? Does that open me up to satanic attack as well?

I never said stretching is pleasing to God. In the end, yoga is just stretching plain and simple. The positions that yoga made up were still in the capability of a human being before Hinduism existed. It may supposedly do this and supposedly do that. But then again in Hinduism, there are a lot of supposed things that are supposedly spiritual.

The Bible says that meat does not commend us to God. I'll bet you that Paul would have said the same thing about stretching. My argument remains the same. Don't do yoga because you will offend a brother. Do not blame other people for doing yoga because that means they will be possessed by demons. I think intentions factor in to stuff like this. If I eat food offered to idols with it in mind, yes I probably open myself up to demonic attack. If I stretch meditating on false gods, yes I open myself up to attack. But if I stretch and/or eat just because I'm hungry or need to stretch then what harm am I doing except to my brother who is standing next to me?

Once again, don't do it for your brother's sake.

I never said yoga was "good" or "pleasing to God". It seems you are reading more into my statements out of a desire to categorically condemn this practice. I caution you to beware exceeding what is written in your zeal. Zeal is good but it must be checked with charity and knowledge.

God bless

I honestly do not believe that stretching my body is in one way basic stretching but in another way some attempt to glorify other deities. Maybe if I were Hindu I would think so but Im not. A stretch is a stretch. Oh no I crossed my right arm over my left instead? Guess i'm stretching demonically. Seriousoly, all this nonsense of Kundalini whatzits and chakra whozits, its pathetic.

Okay, I just researched it and for some reason I am having trouble posting the link....there are a handful of people suffering from strokes because of hyperextension every year. And these were very young people. So I'm passing that along because that is a solid reason to avoid yoga.

YOGA is not stretching. It is distortion of the body and it hurts people. In fact, that article says that even mild forms of yoga causes strains and bruising in the body. It is a scam and so ridiculous.

the kundalini "serpent" is a real thing, you have to know enough about it to understand that there are real effects that happen from this sort of practice. monks have overheated and gotten too cold... there are undesired effects and it is a form of the occult you have very little experience with, according to your statements. there are realities about specific spiritual practices such as awakening kundalini that are very real and one does not want to mess with if they know anything about. before i knew what it was, i practiced and got the inner core vibration that happens from your core. there are gateways and portals to other realms we have no business being in. you have to have gone there, normally, to have any understanding of these things. they are real and quite dangerous in terms of their implications spiritually.

if you've never "awakened kundalini" and have not had the shaking from your core, you are most likely going to laugh at me, but it is a very real experience that you can lookup. it happens and kundalini awakened in one has real and undesired effects both spiritually, mentally and physically.

Yoga...stretching your muscles...whats the difference unless you are chanting to the sun god. I did martial arts for many years and during the meditation at the beginning and end of class I prayed to the Maker and Keeper of the universe....the almighty, all powerful Christ Jesus.

also, what do the dragon and serpent both stand for/represent in the bible ?

the very meaning of the word yoga is " to yoke " : Yoga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i don't think they mean coming under the yoke of Christ Jesus in the definition of yoga.

I've heard about the kudalini spirit and how many think they're "filled with the Holy Ghost" but it's really a "demon". Many charismatic Christians are said to show signs of the kudalini(which I'm skeptical on as well). Anyway, in saying that real yoga involves meditation to get into your subconscious. Hypnotism also is digging into your subconscious. It is possible to self hypnotist yourself with meditation. So the "spirit" is actually the person putting them self into a trance and not an actual demonic entity.
Many faith healers use mass hypnosis to trick the audience to thinking they've performed miracles. Same thing with yoga. You think your becoming empowered by your inner chi or whatever they call it but in reality your mind is temporarily warped

yes, and i feel like saying... it does open you up to forces you would not otherwise, knowingly want to be open to. i believe hypnotism is not a good practice, either. it is a form of warping the mind temporarily and causing an absence of mind and can actually lead to your spirit vacating your body to be inhabited by other entities. this has come to be my most honest and truthful understanding of these sorts of practices.

[h=1][/h]Look like there is yoga with chanting and without chanting. My sister in law sign up as Yoga student, at first she did it to cure her back problem, now she is Hindu. It may help for some problem like arthritis, but the danger is you lost your soul.

[h=3]Benefits of Chanting: Yoga of Sound leads to positive effects ...[/h][h=1]www.janeyoga.com/benefits-of-chanting-yoga-of-sound-leads-to-positiv...‎

Benefits of Chanting: Yoga of Sound leads to positive effects[/h]
The yoga of sound involves chanting; chanting is a centuries-old technique that connects humans with themselves, the universe, and Spirit. Chanting raises vibrations of the individual practicing and a result, people who chant feel alive, peaceful, and centered. We all know that in order to attain good physical health and happiness, the body requires adequate exercise, proper diet, and rest. More importantly and more overlooked is the health of our inner self which also requires nourishment and attention. When we neglect our spiritual, inner self, we become imbalanced and negative in attitude and emotions.
Expert Yoga teacher Adrian Cox explains, “When you chant OM with the right understanding, it becomes a powerful yoga practice in it’s own right…Chanting OM creates detachment and empowers all mental and spiritual processes. It can take you all the way to deep states of yoga, if you have good concentration.” Cox reminds us that “It [can take] a long time before [any mantra] takes effect. Depending on the number of syllables in the mantra, it can take 16,000 or more repetitions before it ‘unlocks.’ That’s if you’re concentrating… Having your brain wander off on to unrelated things while chanting might make it take longer.”
[h=2]Chanting is fun, easy, and always available to you![/h]Chanting is a useful anecdote in our fast-paced lifestyles, stressful lives, and during our modern times. Chanting is a good habit and beneficial to bring into your life, no matter how busy you are each day:

  • You can chant alone, silently, quietly , or aloud… anytime…anywhere
  • You can chant with friend or a group of friends
  • You can listen to chants throughout the day on your CD or Mp3 player to feel soothed and energized
  • You can chant as you sit still, as you move, as you travel.
  • You don’t have make any adjustments- you can chant in any position

I started with Yoga,
went thru that,
then to Hinduism,
went thru that,
then to Buddhism,
went thru that,
then to Zen,
went thru that,
then to Taoism
went thru that,
then to a wordless, thoughtless universe of my own,
didn't make it thru that...
somewhere in that fog the Lord erected His cross.

Yoga as any other related form of exercise or what ever you want to call it fall into the same category as Karate and all the other junk that you have a master to answer to. Anytime you bow to a sensei or try to reach a place other than in God no God is not happy. Any form of sin is sin no matter if we do it in ignorance or not ignorance is no excuse.God used several men to say come out from among them ,don't follow their ways, there is a way that seems right to man and so on. But we are going to do what we want to do when we get ready is what the enemy sees and takes from our foolishness or lack of understanding. Several replies are so well thought out its good to see that. But several other replies still shows there is much work to do. People get so offended at what they don't know or understand. Well that is what ignorance is.

KJV Dictionary Definition: ignorance
