Josh's Journal Notes on Isaiah chapter 6:
"Holiness OF GOD"
Isaiah Called to Be a Prophet:
All in Isaiah we see Gods Holiness: Pray; then Read Isaiah Chapter 6
Starting question: How many things are called Holy in the bible? (Discus)
Verse 1. In the year that King Uzziah died: What did Isaiah see next? “One king falls but God on his throne forever!
2. "The seraphims": fiery serpent or shining [ones] burning [ones]
3."Holy Holy Holy": You can look at this as being God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Looking back we only find some have three and others only have two as in "Holy Holy" for the translation. But we see Gods message of Holiness in three ways if you believe in the Trinity. Noticethe word "God" its self has 3 letters, and God never has “s”, unless showing ownership. As Isaiah beheld this revelation of the glory and majesty of his Lord, he was overwhelmed with a sense of the purity and holiness of God. How sharp the contrast between the matchless perfection of his Creator, and the sinful course of those who, with himself, had long been numbered among the chosen people of Israel and Judah! "Woe is me!" he cried; "for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts." Verse 5. Standing, as it were, in the full light of the divine presence within the inner sanctuary, he realized that if left to his own imperfection and inefficiency, he would be utterly unable to accomplish the mission to which he had been called. But a seraph was sent to relieve him of his distress and to fit him for his great mission. A living coal from the altar was laid upon his lips, with the words, "Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged." Then the voice of God was heard saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" and Isaiah responded, "Here am I; send me." Verses 7, 8.
4."And the Posts of the door were shaken": God showing how much greater he is, shanking the post in the ground the same ground you and I walks on. The one we trust in more than we do the Lord. We all wake up in the morning; we put our feet on the ground trusting the floor is there, before we even open our eyes. Sometimes we have more faith in our car than God.
"and the house filled with smoke": The bible tells us in Isa 4:5, Rev 15:8, that smoke comes from the Glory of God and from his power, Isaiah here is a poet drawing a picture with words . So there is no end to Gods power and holiness and Isaiah is starting to see how unrighteous he is compared to God!
5."Woe is me": Often when God sends a person with a message, God dos not only want to save those who hear it, but also to save those who are giving the message and the bible says they receive a stricter judgment (James 3:1). In Isa 5:8-30 Isaiah had woes for others, but now for himself! Seeing this about himself Isaiah said I am undone! Destroyed! Unclean! Isaiah is showing true sorrow that brings change in a heart of a believer. Crying out to God for help Abba father! There can be no self-exaltation, no boastful claim to freedom from sin, on the part of those who walk in the shadow of Calvary’s cross. They feel that it was their sin which caused the agony that broke the heart of the Son of God, and this thought will lead them to self-abasement. Those who live nearest to Jesus discern most clearly the frailty and sinfulness of humanity, and their only hope is in the merit of a crucified and risen Savior.
6 & 7. "Then one of the seraphim flew to me": God is always coming to us to renew our faith in Him. “Your iniquity is taken away". "Never dos He neither leave us nor forsake us" (Heb 13:5). Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 1Jn 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.......Joh 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
God did not come in to this world to make us fall from grace, He knows our sinful ways will not be gone until the end. Walk in the faith that has been given us. Praying each day that we understand him better and endure to the end! Spend your time seeking souls for the Kingdom to keep your mind off yourself.
8,9."Send Me": Isaiah's conscience bearing witness to the Holiness of God verse 5"For my eyes have seen the king".When we see the love of God through beholding Him each day we see His love for others, the deeper we get in God’s love the better we are able to help others see Jesus. Why? Because we know Him! And they see His nature through us. To everyone who becomes a partaker of His grace the Lord appoints a work for others. Individually we are to stand in our lot and place, saying, "Here am I; send me." Isaiah 6:8. Upon the minister of the word, the missionary nurse, the Christian physician, the individual Christian, whether he be merchant or farmer, professional man or mechanic--the responsibility rests upon all. It is our work to reveal to men the gospel of their salvation. Every enterprise in which we engage should be a means to this end.
"Send Me Lord"! Isaiah was told "GO “Tell the people that they may not see nor hear the Lord! Isaiah went as the Lord said but how often do we our self when told? That’s worse than the sinner that never came to the Lord. God gives us a choice on what we surround our self with and those surroundings depend on growth: In Christ’s parable of the sower and the seed there was no difference between the seed scattered in one kind of soil and that sown in the others, or yet in the manner in which it was sown. Everything depended upon the reception given the seed by each type of soil. In like manner, the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart was in no way an act of God, but rather a deliberate choice on his own part. 2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
10.("Make the heart of this people “dull") ("Shut their eyes"): God was telling him people have left Gods ways and now will become wise in their own eyes (Isa 5:21) When we turn from God the light is no longer with us. (That is if we take our own path.) We become dull. That’s why God sent Isaiah to save them from them self. But only if they might believe with all their heart and have a willing mind to follow God. The bible says: 2Co 8:12 for if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
Joh 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. Mat 6:33 reminds us: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.(When we don’t follow Gods plan and forget to acknowledge Him Therefor blindness sets in.) Pro 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
11. "Lord how long?" I find myself asking this very thing; In the first chapter of Acts 1 verse 6 the disciples asked Lord will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel, in other words oh lord! how long?; 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
12. “Lord has removed men” (Lev. 26:33; Deut. 4:26–28; 28:64). We are the branches of God’s tree, “He that abideth in me and I in him same bringeth forth much fruit for without me ye can do nothing”
We do not want to be cut off from God, Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
13. The basic meaning of the verse is clear. Verses 11, 12 have described the desolation of Judah at the time of the Babylonian captivity. Though the land would be left utterly desolate, this experience would not mean the end of Israel as a nation (see Jer. 4:27; 5:10, 18; 30:11; 46:28).
