Bread Crumbs “A True Disciple”

It is the Christian’s personal responsibility to make the study of the Word of God a priority in his life. As believers we should be daily searching out the Word to enhance our relationship with God. In order to learn the Word of God we are going to need to discipline ourselves to spend time learning that Word. Not only must we learn the content of God's Word but we are also to apply that Word to our everyday life. For example, the knowledge of the Message of the Cross is found in the confines of God's Word. I can come to understand that faith in Christ’s finished work is required, through the reading of God’s Word. I can learn that faith and grace is the only true process as to how God works in a life. But I must also endeavor to walk in these truths consistently. After I have observed the Word, I am to apply it to my own heart and life. Then I am to look for the opportunity to share these timeless truths with those I come in contact with. Read the Word! Apply that Word to your heart! Then share the Word of God with others!

Ezra 7:10 - For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

Proverbs 22:9
He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

He that has a bountiful eye, which means he sees as he should see is a generous giver of his own bread to the poor. Jesus told Nicodemus that a man can’t enter the kingdom or even see it unless he is born again (John 3:3-5), so in this we know the bountiful eye that sees properly is the eye that looks through faith in the cross of Christ, and the blessing then comes upon those who through THAT faith take care of the poor. God has promised deliverance to those who consider the poor (Psalm 41:1), but knowing deliverance only comes through faith in the sacrifice of Christ speaks volumes to those who have ears to hear!

Bread Crumbs “Through the Spirit”

Sitting in the Spirit is far more profitable than fighting in the flesh! To sit is an expression of rest. It is not necessarily a position of inactivity. However, to be seated, one does cease from his efforts. The opportunity to avoid unnecessary pressure is experienced. God wants His people to rely upon Him. When we finally come to the realization that only God can accomplish what we need, then we become willing to allow Him to work in our circumstance. The Spirit of God will often wait upon the believer to assume a position of rest before He will attend to that believer’s need. We have no ability in and of ourselves to overcome fleshly desires. Even a born-again person will find himself, at times, wanting or desiring something that the Holy Spirit does not want in our lives. If we try to “mortify” these desires through actions, routines, confessions, or any other method of the flesh, we will be overcome and defeated by that inclination. But if we will exhibit faith in what Christ has done for us on Calvary, the Holy Spirit will do the mortifying, and our victory is assured. So quit fighting by the means of the flesh and start living by faith in Christ.

Romans 8:13 - For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Proverbs 22:10
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Not fun to have to do, but at times, some who are only causing problems through their mocking of what is God’s order and God’s will, have to be cast out, and when they go, the contention goes with them. I’ve seen this through the years as we always hate to see anyone move away from hearing the message of the cross, but at the same time it is painful, it is also a relief when some folks aren’t there anymore. Just being honest!! It is important to deal with those who are bound in strife because where there is envy and strife, there will always be confusion and every evil work (James 3:16). Not the favorite part of any ministry, but surely is a part of it.

Bread Crumbs “Bring Forth Fruit”

Every believer is called to bring forth fruit. The idea of fruit includes the development of Christian character, a Holy lifestyle, and the performance of good works. This fruit also includes a life of praise, using our possessions to benefit others, and sharing our faith in order to win the lost to Christ. These, and other evidences, are all the visible proof of cultivated fruit. There is only one way to bring forth fruit and that is by “abiding in Christ.” Abiding is not accomplished by laboring or earning the right to bear fruit through works. Abiding has the sense of making one's self at home. Abiding is relaxing in what one has already been afforded. Abiding is not an external effort that can readily be seen but rather, it is an expression of faith. As we trust in Christ and His Finished Work (abiding), we grow in the Grace and the Knowledge of the Lord and as a result we continually bring forth fruit. Our role in the process calls for us to rest, trust, and abide in Christ by ever keeping the Cross as our singular object of faith. His role is to produce the fruit. Without Him we can do nothing!

John 15:16 - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Proverbs 22:11
He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Those who love pureness of heart are those who walk with an upright heart before the Lord with their faith in the only pure One who has ever lived, Jesus Christ. Only from a pure heart can graceful words emanate, and the king is always looking for these kind of friends. These friends carry out the kings business, and our great King Jesus taught us that those who do His commands are His friends (John 15:14-16).

Bread Crumbs “The Straight Gate”

There are not many roads or ways that lead to a relationship with God. In fact, there is no other name given under heaven whereby men can be saved, but one. That is the precious name of Jesus, who gave His life that all humanity might be saved; at least for those who will believe. The way to God is therefore through a narrow gate. This is a small door, open to all, but only one person at a time may pass through. Once through that straight gate there lies before the new believer a glorious but difficult road. Nothing could be more magnificent, but no road or way will ever demand more from those who choose to travel upon it. It is the way of the Cross. On this path self must be denied, sin must be overcome, and the cross is to be embraced daily. All trust in personal strengths must be laid aside. This is a difficult way, a narrow way, the way less traveled. But the pleasure and strength that is found along the path is joy unspeakable and the grace freely given for the journey is outstandingly awesome. The sad fact remains that there are precious few that will choose this road. Are you one?

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Proverbs 22:12

The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
The eyes of the Lord speak of His seeing all things at all times, His omniscient power, but most of all the Way in which God sees is what gives man His knowledge and preserves that knowledge for man. Remember God says that Noah found grace “In the eyes of the Lord”. This speaks of Noah finding the knowledge which is the will of the Lord, and through faith in what God said to him, he judged and overthrew (Hebrews 11:7) every word of every transgressor and they were all washed away through the flood. Noah found grace because Noah was a man who believed God through faith in the sacrifice for a coming Redeemer (Genesis 8:20). God also tells us that He guides us with His eye, which is the Way He sees things should be in our lives (Psalm 32:8). Not the way we think, but the Way in which He thinks, and He has spoken what He thinks. It is called the Word of God, and Jesus is His name.

Bread Crumbs “A Gospel of Power”

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of power. The supernatural work of the Holy Spirit becomes an active entity when the truth is proclaimed. When men rely on manipulation through fancy phrases or emotional displays devoid of truth, no lasting spiritual work is accomplished. Some ministers move people by a well-timed phrase or a drummed up vision. These promise the moon but do not have the power to cross the street! No lives are changed. But when preachers get down to work and lift up the Lord and His sacrifice on Calvary, the miraculous begins to happen. Sinners chains are efficiently broken. The bruised of body, soul, and spirit are set free. Demons tremble as God sweeps on the scene. There is healing, salvation, deliverance, and life changing dynamic power for those who will believe. Preaching under the anointing of the Holy Spirit is still God’s premiere method (not concerts, talk shows, or psychologists). The Cross of Christ is still God’s message. Paul determined to preach Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. He knew that this was the only message that would enable the faith of the people of God to stand in the power of God. If we truly desire God's people to walk in victorious power, we must do the same!

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Proverbs 22:13
The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

The slothful man has a different excuse every day as to why he cannot live for God, but God isn’t accepting our excuses but sees right through them. Only the faithful and patient will inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:12), while the opposite of faithful and patient is slothful, and the slothful will not make it. It doesn’t matter how much they call Him Lord, Lord, as Jesus said it is not those who call Me Lord, but those who do the will of the Father who make it into the Kingdom (Matthew 7:21). Many millions have gone into eternal torment with the testimony of, “God knows my heart”, and that He surely does. Know this, that works can never produce proper faith, but proper faith ALWAYS produces works, and where there is no works, there is no faith (James 2:20). Let us maintain our faith in the sacrifice of Christ, as we believe we were crucified with Him (Galatians 2:20), buried with Him (Romans 6:4), and therefore should be living in newness of Life with Him (Romans 6:4-5). This is the ONLY Way that will deliver one from slothfulness and the false way which is full of excuses.

Bread Crumbs “Cross-Eyed”

Paul received the understanding of the gospel from the Lord directly. He was not taught the content of the new covenant by men but by the Spirit of God. The greatest revelation that a Christian can receive in this life is the understanding of Christ and Him Crucified. In this revelation and through the inner illumination of this truth will come all the benefits of God for every circumstance or situation. The Lord is attempting to open the eyes of the Church to the simple truth that He has provided for us all that we need in Christ. He has not asked us to earn our salvation or to labor for our sanctification. Instead, He is asking us from a grateful heart to receive, rest, and rely upon what He has provided in and through Christ. The sacrifice of His Son prepared such magnificent benefits for the entirety of the human race that there has never been anything remotely like it. All of these benefits are accessed by faith alone. Faith must reside in the person and work of Christ to access these benefits. Do you hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches? Thank you Lord for continuing to reveal to “whosoever will” the same truths that you revealed to the Apostle Paul!

Galatians 1:12 - For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 22:14
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.

This not only speaks of the natural, strange (Wayward) and immoral woman, but also that which is false doctrine that can pull the child of God into a pit of God’s wrath when they move their faith from the sacrifice of Christ to any other object. When one believes in Christ and His sacrificial work at the Cross, they become dead to the Law and Sin, then being married to Jesus (Romans 7:4). It was our believing upon Christ and His sacrificial work at the Cross that allowed us to be married to Him, and when we move our faith to something other, we are hearing the voice of the strange woman spiritually and falling into a deep pit of spiritual adultery. This is what happens as a part of God’s wrath, which is Him resisting all ungodliness and unrighteousness which is all that can be produced outside of faith in the Cross of Christ (Romans 1:18). If you have left the Cross and didn’t even know it through accepting the Purpose driven, the government of 12, the words you speak, or even placing one’s faith in your prayers, your anything which only produces self righteousness, you can return today to the only place where God’s righteousness is found and experienced. The Cross!!

Bread Crumbs “A Man and a Mirror”

I’ve been keeping a watchful eye on a certain person that I know very well. I’ve observed that their walk with God isn’t always what it should be. At times they seem to detour off track. Self-righteousness has been known to make an appearance and on other occasions the flesh becomes painfully obvious. Every now and then even the ugly face of worldliness is evidenced. It can be very disappointing to behold. For the most part, this person is an “on fire” believer, standing strong in the faith, pursuing God with all that they have. They reveal a love for people, both saved and lost, edifying by truth those that they encounter. After watching closely for quite some time I’ve concluded that God must be very patient and long-suffering with our personal shortcomings. He obviously gives all of us time to willingly conform to His image and His ways. But keeping things in balance, we must also bear in mind that God’s mercy is not an excuse to travel in a wrong direction. We are not to make ourselves at home with lifestyles that are unbiblical. As I continue my observations it makes me wonder; just what else will I see in my mirror tomorrow?

Philippians 3:12 - Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
