Proverbs 21:17
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

He that loves pleasure refers to he who has his priorities out of alignment and loves pleasure more than He loves God, and the promise to him is that he will be a poor man. This is in spite of the comments one may verbally say in an attempt to cover up his sin of being friends with the world and at enmity with God (James 4:4). You know the comments often heard such as, “God knows my heart”, which will change once in hell to “I thought God knew my heart.”

He that loves wine and oil shall not be rich in spite of what they may think. God doesn’t operate on the premise of what we think or how we feel, but what we do with His Son, Jesus Christ according to His Word. I stand on the reality that men love wine and oil because of the way it makes them feel and who they think they are while partaking, while they could be trusting Jesus Christ to meet their every need and to learn who they could be in Christ.

Your Word for Today

“how sweet are Your Words unto My taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to My mouth! (Ps. 119:103).

The theme of this Psalm is the authority and sufficiency of the Bible as the only revealed Truth in the world. It, and it alone, is the rule of life. Its theme is the Word of God hidden in the heart and obeyed in the life. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Blessed Man Who fully satisfies its language. For He Himself is the Word of God. They only, who, like Him, are subject to that Word, are blessed.

This Psalm is an acrostic. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet and there are 22 stanzas in the Psalm. Each stanza contains 8 Verses. There are, therefore, 176 Verses in all.

In this Psalm, the Bible is given ten different titles, which, in effect, correspond to the Ten Commandments. Those titles are: “Way,” “Testimonies,” “Precepts,” “Commandments,” “Law,” “Judgments,” “Righteousness,” “Statutes,” “Word,” and “Words.”

This Psalm portrays the pilgrim walking through this world on a dangerous road on a dark night, wholly dependent upon a lamp to light his way and guide his feet (II Pet. 1:19). The lesson of the Psalm is that the lamp may be wholly trusted, and that whoever follows its light will be preserved from the squalors of the way, saved from the dangers of the path, and surely led to its desired end. This lamp is the Bible (Williams).”

Bread Crumbs “Wait”

Wait! That little four letter word that we all love to hate! Who likes the idea of waiting? No one! When was the last time you heard someone talking about the enjoyment of waiting? None of us love to embrace the idea of a delay. However, those who find themselves waiting on the Lord are doing far more than just enduring the passing of time. It is in this momentary period that faith is being tested. The faith that is genuine, truly resident within the heart and not just in the mind, must be proven adequate for the journey that lies before us. So one reason for the necessity of waiting is that the Lord is building genuine faith as a solid and sure feature of the believer’s heart. We must understand and believe that if the Lord has orchestrated a delay, it is always for a divine purpose with an eternal value. Waiting can be frustrating, gut-wrenching, exasperating, and downright miserable. But be encouraged Saint of God! The promise of the Lord stands sure! Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength! In simple terms, “The wait will be worth it!” Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Proverbs 21:18
The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

This proves that even the Great White Throne judgment at which all those who never trusted Christ and His sacrificial work at the cross will be cast into an everlasting lake of fire, will be for us as well as everything else that God has done. They will be removed from us as the hindrance they have been against God’s people down through the ages just as His removal of the devil, the nature of sin, and eventually the very presence of ALL sin.

Now this will make the Christian shout for joy, as we know that God has told us ALL things are for us (1 Corinthians 3:21-23). We are blessed In Christ Jesus and Christ Jesus is God!!

Bread Crumbs “First Things First”

As believers, it is important that we keep “first things first.” Without the Cross, there is no resurrection! Without the death of Jesus on Calvary, there would be no need for His resurrection. Common sense would tell us that if a man never dies there is never a need for a resurrection. The Cross always precedes resurrection life and resurrection life is impossible without first experiencing the Cross. The sacrifice of Jesus’ life preceded the resurrection in order to establish the victory for all who would believe. The resurrection is magnificent and marvelous, a totally unique event that gives evidence to the victory won by Christ on the Cross. The Cross stands alone as the means of victory. The resurrection stands alone as the evidence of that victory. The resurrection never produced our victory. The resurrection was God’s way of verifying Christ’s victory to the universe. Both events are needful. Both events were required. Both are forever connected. But the resurrection remains dependent upon the Cross. The Cross is never dependent upon the resurrection! Therefore, It is impossible to experience resurrection life unless you first embrace the crucified life. So let us die daily to self and thereby experience resurrection life, just as God intended.

Romans 6:5 - For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Proverbs 21:19
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Again, another scripture that reveals that dwelling apart, even in the wilderness is better than dwelling and putting up with a contentious and angry woman. Many men would have been better off to heed this advice rather than taking matters into their own hands becoming physically aggressive and making things worse. Jesus reigning in the heart of the man and the woman would of course solve whatever it is that has the woman contentious and angry.

Your Word for Today

“let every thing that has breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD (Ps. 150:6).

This song, and all the Psalms are songs, will be sung on that coming day after Israel has finally accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as both Saviour and Lord. As a result, and in her rightful place, even as the Lord originally intended, the whole world is in harmony, because the Prince of Peace reigns supreme. As a result, the entirety of the world will function in the world of “Praise” to the Lord. He will be praised in His Sanctuary, which refers to the Millennial Temple in Jerusalem. He also will be praised for the “firmament of His power,” which refers to every problem being solved.

Then everyone’s lips will be praise to the Lord because of “His mighty acts,” which will be evident throughout the entirety of the Earth. Men have tried to magnify their personal greatness, when, in reality, they have no greatness; however, the Lord of Glory will truly have “greatness,” and, on top of that, “excellent greatness.”

Every musical instrument in the world will be used in praise to the Lord, which will bring the very elements into harmony with peace and prosperity. In other words, there will be no more tornados, hurricanes, famines, tidal waves, earthquakes, etc. Those things will be things of the past.

All sickness will be done away with, death placed in abeyance except in particular circumstances. All poverty will be eliminated, all war will be a thing of the past, superstition and ignorance will forever be laid aside, and the whole world will be at rest; then, and only then, will “everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the LORD.” This will be in the coming Kingdom Age.”

Bread Crumbs “Genuine Faith”

To move your faith from the position of knowledge to the reality of experience is absolutely necessary. This means that just having the knowledge of a truth doesn’t mean that we have properly applied that truth to our hearts. The trial of your faith is what accurately gauges the authenticity or genuineness of that faith. When you read in the Bible that God will supply all your need, you have knowledge. When God comes through with a financial miracle at the last moment, you have experience. When you read and believe that God still heals the sick, you have knowledge. But when God’s mighty hand raises you up from a physical affliction, you have experience. When you hear the preacher proclaim that victory over sin is accomplished through faith in the Cross, you have knowledge. But when the grace of God removes that “thorn in your side” that works could never dislodge, then you have experience. The portion of our faith that is truly genuine is that which has been verified through the test. A word of encouragement for those in the midst of the trial; it came to pass, it didn’t come to stay!

1 Peter 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: (7) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Your Word for Today

“if the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the Earth: if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be (Eccl. 11:3).

In this one Chapter, we are given God’s Formula for success. It is as follows:

Verse 1: The “bread” is the Word of God. The “waters” constitute the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will function only upon the True Word of God, and it is guaranteed to bring home the blessing, whether in few or many days.

Verse 2: The number “seven” is God’s Perfect Number. It refers to His Perfect Salvation, which is “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified” (I Cor. 1:23). The number “eight” pertains to Resurrection, for it was on this day that Christ rose from the dead. If we proclaim the Perfect Gospel of the Cross, “we shall also be in the likeness of His Resurrection,” i.e., “Resurrection Life” (Rom. 6:5). Verse

3: If the Believer functions according to the Word of God, which means to function according to the Message of the Cross, it really doesn’t matter where the person is, or what the circumstances are, blessings will follow. In other words, the tree can fall toward the south, the north, etc. Wherever it falls, the person can be blessed, but only if they go God’s Way.

Verse 4: The Believer is not to observe circumstances, but rather the Promises of God. Verse

5: It is not known or understood exactly how a baby grows in its mother’s womb. Likewise, we cannot know exactly how God will bring to pass His Promises, but bring them to pass He definitely shall, that is, if we will believe Him!

Verse 6: We are to sow the seed of the Word of God, not looking at circumstances, but rather continuing to believe the Lord, and then watch God work, even in ways that seem least likely. The Promise is: “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you shall find it after many days” (Eccl. 11:1).”

Your Word for Today

“then flew one of the Seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the Altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged (Isa. 6:6-7).

When men, like Isaiah, see themselves in the Divine Light, they cry out like the Prophet that they are “undone.” The word “undone” means justly doomed to death. In the light of the Throne of God, which Isaiah saw, the Prophet learned that he was a moral leper; that his people were moral lepers; and that they altogether were as vile as King Uzziah, who was a leper (II Ki. 15:5).

If, in the Presence of the thrice-Holy LORD of Hosts, the sinless Seraphim had to veil both their faces and their feet, how hopeless was it for a moral leper such as Isaiah to stand in such a light! He needed a cleansing and covering of his sin: the living coals from off the Altar of Burnt Offering, symbolizing the fire of the Wrath of God and the Blood of the Lamb of God, when brought in contact with his “unclean lips,” removed his iniquity and expiated his sin.

There is no other way of cleansing and expiation than through the Wrath of God and the Atoning Blood of Christ. These are revealed and glorified at Calvary. There God judged sin infinitely and eternally in the Person of Christ; His Precious Blood there shed is the one and only perfect expiation for, and covering of, sin.

The modern Church must come back to the place that it knows and understands that the problem is sin, as the problem has always been sin. Understanding that, and understanding it properly, it will then come to realize that the only answer for sin is the Cross of Calvary.

Paul said: “But this Man, after He had offered one Sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the Right Hand of God; “For by one Offering He has perfected forever them who are sanctified” (Heb. 10:12, 14).”

Bread Crumbs "Prepared to be Perfected”

Christians are not perfect. However, we are by the grace of God equipped to be perfected. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid! We must never use our mortality or our fleshly state of vulnerability, even our state of spiritual inefficiency as an excuse for not pursuing righteousness. While I daily need to thank the good Lord for having mercy and extending compassion, I must continually believe that His grace has the ability to furnish my person with the power needed to rise above my failings. So, admitting that I cannot does not mean that God cannot. Just because I do not have the means to a victory in and of myself does not mean that God cannot supply the ability I need to live right. So, no more excuses! No more blaming my current state or status! No more shall we blame the circumstances that surround us or the people God has brought into our lives. No more using my humanity as a license for accepting failure. God has supplied me with a route of victory. Faith in the Finished work of Christ can cause my inabilities to be swept away in His strength. In Him I trust and through Him I shall be changed.

Romand 6:15 - What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Proverbs 21:21

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Only those who “Follow after” righteousness and mercy will find and experience Life, Righteousness and honor.
The only Way to follow after righteousness and mercy is to follow after the One who is our Lord of Righteousness and mercy before God, Jesus Christ. Here’s what must be known about following Christ. Anyone who does not have their faith in the work of Christ at the Cross is not following Christ, as He taught that to follow Him one would have to deny himself, take up his cross (Faith in His sacrificial work at Calvary), and then He can be followed (Luke 9:23).

Every Word that God has ever spoken is “In Righteousness” (Proverbs 8:8), and for faith to come, we must hear God’s Word in its proper context (Romans 10:17), or it will not be faith which comes, but the corruption of our flesh. The Bible says the Spirit is Life because of Righteousness (Romans 8:10), and this Righteousness is the result of God’s love and mercy toward us through our faith in the death of Christ (Colossians 1:20). Outside of faith in the sacrifice of Christ “Daily”, this honor will not be found, and no man will see the Lord through us.

“and there shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, the Spirit of Knowledge and of the Fear of the LORD (Isa. 11:1-2).

Isaiah here sees the explanation of what John saw on the Isle of Patmos. John said, “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the Throne and of the four Beasts (Living Ones), and in the midst of the Elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the Seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the Earth” (Rev. 5:6).

There aren’t “seven Holy Spirits.” This phrase rather stands for the seven attributes of the Spirit of God, or, one might say, “His sevenfold fullness.” Those attributes are: “Spirit, Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Might, Knowledge, and Fear.”

In this “sevenfold fullness,” we find all the “help” that we need in order to live this life and to be what we ought to be in the Lord (Jn. 14:16-18).

Tragically, the modern Church seeks to live for God without the help of this “sevenfold fullness.” Even though the Holy Spirit most definitely resides in the heart and life of every single Believer, irrespective of the spiritual condition of such a Believer, still, what He can do is only potential. In other words, His help is not automatic.

But every single Believer can have this “sevenfold fullness” if the Believer will place his faith absolutely and exclusively in the Cross. The Holy Spirit always works within the parameters of the Finished Work of Christ. The Cross ever being the Object of our Faith, then the Holy Spirit will work mightily on our behalf, giving us the benefit of “His sevenfold fullness,” but only if our faith is properly placed in Christ and the Cross. He tells us this in Romans 8:2.”

Bread Crumbs “Contentment”

Contentment is a settled disposition of the heart and mind that lays claim to the peace of God in a unique way. When a believer knows and believes that he or she is in the designated place chosen by God alone, then desires to be elsewhere begin to crumble. It can take a long time for a Christian to settle down and accept the place in life that God has called him to. Ego bruises the heart and stimulates wayward thinking that attacks the satisfied soul that God wants us to have. Man likes to think that there is always something better right around the corner. Surely there is a place where the grass is greener, the air is clearer, and life’s troubles would not affect us so. But when we venture out of the place and position that God has designated specifically for us, we will find no peace, no joy, no sustained satisfaction. God has far greater plans than what we know in regard to our present state. But until we express satisfaction and contentment in the field of life where God has planted us, we can never grow into something more. Be still my foolish heart and embrace the life that God has given. He knows what is best for me!

Romans 12:3 - For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 21:22
A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

It is only the wise man that can scale the city, which means to climb over its walls and throw down the strength of its false confidence. This is done of course with nothing other than faith in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, as it is the power of God, and the very defeat of the enemy, the world and all flesh. It is what God has done in His Son at the Cross that makes the wisdom of the world to be foolishness, and to remove ALL the confidence of the flesh of men. There isn’t one wall that can keep God and His gospel out, but every wall will crumble at the preaching of Christ and Him Crucified. Jesus Christ is the Wise Man who invaded sinful humanity and provided a way out of slavery to sin through His atoning sacrifice at Calvary.
