Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk.
7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

John 3:20-21
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light,

so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Hi OwenHeidenreich, Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus about spiritual matters in this Chapter. He says in verse two that he knows Jesus is from God and Jesus knowing what Nicodemus is thinking tells him that unless one is born again he cannot even see the kingdom of God. As the conversation progresses Jesus then imparts the wisdom of God to him in John3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son." The simple meaning of this passage of scripture is that all men love darkness rather than light because of our deeds are evil. If we believe in Jesus the light we are not judged but if we do not believe we are judged already.

There is no guile found in Jesus Christ just the plain clear truth of the gospel as it is presented to Nicodemus and you and I. We are all a work in progress and Christians live their daily lives in the light of the truth "so that our deeds may be done in the sight of God. John3:21 One time a very close friend of mine came to me with questions about who is Jesus Christ and I told him that Jesus Christ is God's Son who died and shed His blood for our sins - he stopped the conversation right there and said I agree with you who Jesus is my complaint is why does the Church want to know all about my personal life? To which my answer was, if you have nothing to be ashamed of then you've got nothing to hide. Nicodemus came to ask Jesus questions during the night time because he did not want his deeds to be exposed.

I love this chapter, thanks and God bless!

Wow I hope your friend saw the wisdom in that response like I did, thank God we have HIS wisdom.

I really wanted this verse to speak because I realized God in such a way where I said to myself,

"I should not hide from the Holy Spirits conviction. If the Holy Spirit is telling me something I am doing is wrong, then I should not look for ways to hide from his voice, but instead walk in the light so that God can change me."

Hi Owen, yes I get your meaning about the Holy Spirit convicting us of sin. Run the race to win but don't run out of wind before you reach the finish line lest the Lord tarries. The Christian life is the pursuit of Christ likeness and the finishing line is in heaven the marraige supper of the Lamb. Rev19:9... :)
