He prayed from the whale's belly...NOT HELL

Jonah's second chapter is very tricky. In it, he prayed while in the whale's
belly about a prayer he prayed while drowning, and also about a prayer that
he prayed while down in sheol; a total of three prayers; each one prayed
from three separate locations and under three different circumstances.

I don't think it's that tricky if you take the plain Scripture for what it says. People get into problems when they start reading into the story things that aren't there. Or, they turn to the Hebrew to help explain away basic theology. Learn English and you'll be ok.

Do you believe the account of Lazarus and the rich man? If so, you’d know that the heart of the is hell, what you’re calling Sheol (some kind of RCC purgatory) and it has fire and torment.
The doctrine of the "heart of the earth" as to its foundational ground is found , I would offer in Genesis 4. The Curse

The parable of Lazarus and the rich man does not define hell. Rather it defines the one manner by which we could know God after called the gospel. Or sola scriptura (all thing written in the law and the prophets) . The rich mans hope was in necromancy .He was not given ears to hear the Spirit of God shown by the result.

The same as those who give mysterious life to venerable dead bones in Rome. Its appointed for all men to die one and then comes the execution of his judgement, the last day .Those who have been freely given a new spirit that will never die will raise on the last day . The same day twinkling of the eye. the letter of the law (death) will be cast into the judgment of God . That Law will never rise and condemn another creation corrupting it.

Death as the wrath of God is being revealed from heaven, even today.

Believers have a living hope that goes beyond human hope .The promise of the eternal One, the Lord Jesus. The Christ.. For as scripture informs who hopes for something they already have. It keeps us moving toward the goal of Hebrew 11:39.

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Romans 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he "yet" hope for?

The heart of the earth. I would suggest is the corrupted blood of believers. It cries out to be clothed with our new incorruptible bodies, the righteousness of Christ, the righteousness of faith according to His labor of love.

Under the sun the labor of eating because of the curse can be more than a punishment we can bear. Because of the curse the wage of sin takes hold. It corrupted the ground .Therefore no sabbath rest as a living hope of a new incorruptible body. The hope of all who do beleive as a anchor to ones soul. .

The heart of the earth is as a deceitful corrupted heart. Like who could know it? . A born again heart seeks the soil of the good ground as a foundation. . . the living abiding Word of God. His Law.

For three day and nights in the heart of the corrupted earth. The Son of man, Jesus by reason of suffering as a living sacrifice cried out for strength to finish doing the will of the father. Their combined labor of Love or called work of faith .One faith. One Lord

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Genesis 4:10-13

Cain became the restless wanderer. No sabbath rest as a future hope. He had no city of refuge. He had no interest in the things not seen. The Holy Spirit marked him a beast of the field with 666. No short cuts no sabbath rest forever. A punishment Christ bore for us

Those who see no value in the unseen eternal things of God. Like Esau a first born or Cain to represent in Adam "all die". another example, sold the birth rite for a cup of chicken noodle soup .

We are to buy spiritual truths and not sell them. . They can give us His rest when we do mix faith, the unseen eternal, in what we see or hear . Then we can rejoice and acknowledge Christ in us working to both will and empowering us working with us as Emanuel . . to do His good pleasure .

well, addressing your post in a general manner. that is not speaking to you only but to all who believe as do you:

thing is, people often say use 'plain scripture' or 'sola scriptura', but then will go ahead and state things that do not line up with scripture at all...and again, please note I am only speaking generally here and not just to you

many sects say they use scripture only and go to extremes in their practices

we have oneness people, all kinds of Pentecostals, Baptists, reformed, Calvinists and on and on

thing is, they are all of them perfect in their practices, according to their beliefs so saying use scripture only obviously means there is plenty of division even there and frankly, it sounds more like thinking 'my Bible has more truth than yours does'

want to talk about the Holy Spirit? some will tell you that He has pretty much retired except for teaching or evangelizing

others will be keen to speak about the spiritual gifts

others will tell you that you have a demon in you if you speak in tongues

others will tell you that you have no choice in your response to the gospel while others will tell you that in fact you do choose

AND EVERY SINGLE LIVING ONE OF THEM WILL TELL YOU THAT THEIR TRUTH COMES FROM SCRIPTURE AND THEREFORE THEIR BELIEFS ARE VALIDATED BY GOD HIMSELF!

so I don't buy it. in fact, I return it because it came damaged and no longer holds what it is supposed to hold

IMO, it has become both tiresome and vexatious to read or hear people saying these things

that would be because there is only ONE truth so that creates a whole lotta suspicion on all these truths and I come up with doubt in their words and a big buncha caution cause it is more than obvious there is something wrong

very badly wrong and it is, in fact, getting worse even as I type this

however, the original manuscripts were not in English so I find nothing wrong with looking into the original languages for better understanding and it is negligent and naive to state English only since it would have been gibberish to those who actually wrote the scriptures

who here is actually longing for truth even if it will upset your current truth?

well God knows I do....it is between you and God

it is apparent that NO ONE has the truth market cornered and I wish people would simply acknowledge that and stop saying they only use scripture

yeah. you do USE only scripture and that is the key phrase that best describes the practice

renew your mind by the word instead of looking for passages or verses that appear to substantiate your present understanding

the word of God is alive

The Bible does not say anything about drowning three times and reincarnated each time. That would remind me of Hebrews 6 of those who crucify Christ over and over exposing him to the world as if more than one work of suffering fell short of the glory of God..

Same prayer all three times. By reasoning of a "breathing a living affliction " as living sacrifice.. Some say the soul lives interpented of the breath of spirit life. The dead who die not in Christ .They have no spirit the reveals the mind or desires of the soul, called hearts.

Death to the whole creation .Mind, body, spirit and soul as the heart of the matter. The heart of the corrupted earth. Suffering dying.

For three days and nights the belly of the whale a living, suffering a literal hell.

The dead have no spirit breath of life it having returned to the father who of gave it temporarily .That he subjected to death and therefore they have no mind that could be subject to a new law . The dead need no law .They have perished. . never to rise to new spirit life forever and ever. Again the whole first creation not in part.

Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

You could say no longer a stony heart but a new foundation as the good soil that produces a thousand fold .

Jonah 2 King James Version (KJV) Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

The wage of sin is death of the body, soul and spirit. The whole corrupted creation.

A person cannot separate the spirit from the body of flesh and expect mindlessness to follow a commandment to perform work suffering. Not anymore than separating the mind from the soul, the desire of the heart . The wage is not partial death but the whole, or perfect. Not a reconditioned creation. . . a new. No male nor female, Jew nor Gentile. The eternal not seen as a law of faith

But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. Job 23:13-14

Being in the belly of a whale for three days and three nights is nothing even remotely close to being in hell. The Bible would never uses such verbiage to describe any earthly condition, no matter how awful it may seem.

Point well taken. Understanding that Jonah died and went to hell while his body was in the tomb of the whale is not something to break fellowship over. The Lord died and went to hell while his body was in the tomb. Where else did he deposit the sins of the whole world? Did He reunite with His Father still with our sins on Him? Of course not.

Maybe the full text of the Book of Jonah chapter 2 will help. Jonah cried in a prayer from Sheol. The living do not enter the land of the dead. And Jonah was three days and nights in the belly of the fish, as Jesus our Lord was three days and nights in the tomb after His crucifixion. (The Book of Matthew 12- The Sign of Jonah) There is a reason old testament Jonah is referred to there in the new testament.
It is made clear in Matthew 12.

The Book of Jonah chapter 2:1 And Jonah prayeth unto Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish.

2 And he saith: I called, because of my distress, to Jehovah, And He doth answer me, From the belly of sheol I have cried, Thou hast heard my voice.

3 When Thou dost cast me [into] the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood doth compass me, All Thy breakers and Thy billows have passed over me.

4 And I -- I said: I have been cast out from before Thine eyes, (Yet I add to look unto Thy holy temple!)

5 Compassed me have waters unto the soul, The deep doth compass me, The weed is bound to my head.

6 To the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars [are] behind me to the age. And Thou bringest up from the pit my life, O Jehovah my God.

7 In the feebleness within me of my soul Jehovah I have remembered, And come in unto Thee doth my prayer, Unto Thy holy temple.

8 Those observing lying vanities their own mercy forsake.

9 And I -- with a voice of thanksgiving -- I sacrifice to Thee, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation [is] of Jehovah.

10 And Jehovah saith to the fish, and it vomiteth out Jonah on the dry land.

Matt 12:40 . . Just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of
a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the
heart of the earth.

That should be accompanied by this next passage so there's no mistaking
what Jesus was talking about.

John 2:18-22 . .Then the Jews demanded of him: What miraculous sign
can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?

. . . Jesus answered them: Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in
three days. The Jews replied: It has taken forty-six years to build this
temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?

. . . But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from
the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the
Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

The three days and three nights are actually a red herring. The real issue
is Christ's resurrection; so unless Jonah was dead at some point during his
stay in the fish's tummy, then Jesus' comparison tells us little of any real
significance.

There is a good article here about three days and three nights.

http://www.messianicgoodnews.org/three-days-and-three-nights/
Thank you so much for posting that.

From that article: "...6. Finally, we would consider the statement in John 19:31, which seems to us to be so conclusive as to settle emphatically the question for all time: “For that Sabbath day was an high day.” Bible students unacquainted with Jewish law and custom do not realize the significance of this passage, and so stumble into a wrong interpretation. The Sabbath day to the Jews means only the seventh day of the week; but Scripture often speaks of other holy days; if, for instance, any feast began on a Monday, then that Monday was a holy day in the Jewish colloquial, although the Scriptures, in order to distinguish between the common days and that holy day, call it a Sabbath but never, the Sabbath. A holy day is called a Sabbath only for the reason that certain work is forbidden and differs from the Sabbath on which all work is forbidden. Now it so happened that on this particular occasion, the first day of the Passover fell on a Saturday; hence the scrupulous care taken by the Evangelist, to specify, “that Sabbath day was an high day.” That is, it was a sort of double Sabbath, it being the regular weekly Sabbath Day as well as the first day of the Passover Feast. To prove that this Sabbath was the weekly Sabbath, one has only to consider the words, Day of Preparation. In Exodus 16:5 we read, “And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in,” which is the only time such an expression occurs in the Old Testament. On this expression the ancient rabbis built up hundreds of laws forbidding the eating, on the Sabbath, of food not prepared on Friday, whether it were fruit that fell from the tree or an egg laid on the Sabbath. Therefore, the words “Preparation Day,” which is another expression among the Jews for Friday, can never be applied to the day preceding any other day than the Sabbath when food could not be prepared. It is not that difficult to grasp the truth of all three when ONE is honest with the fact he never died.....

Prayer answered when drowning---swallowed by a PREPARED great fish
Prayer answered while in the belly of the fish and DELIVERED and puked UP (*)
AND the PRAYER while he is IN the BELLY (*) is HIS perception of what BEING in the belly was LIKE

There is NOT one verse that INDICATES he died, zero, NADDA, NONE......it is all a presumption, surmised and supposition by those trying to prove a POINT that is not validated by scripture.

GOD is PRECISE with his wording and the words he USES and INSPIRES IF he had DIED would plainly state....JUST as JONAH was three days and three nights in the HEART of the EARTH SO SHALL the SON of MAN be THREE days and THREE nights IN the HEART of the EARTH

These JOKERS peddling this are equating JONAH to JESUS and this false VIEW has JONAH doing what JESUS DID and NO where in scripture do we SEE ANY MAN DOING what JESUS has done which is the FORERUNNER of our FAITH.

JONAH is a TYPE, a PICTURE of WHAT JESUS WOULD ultimately DO.......

DO you want to DEVALUE JESUS' experience and BRING him down to the level of JONAH.....SORRY.....not buying it.....

The verbiage is not the same, it does not say JONAH died or gave up the ghost, it does not say Jonah resurrected or stood again NOTHING matches the descriptions of what JESUS went through.....the belly of the fish was SYMBOLIC only of the heart of the earth and what JESUS would DO and JONAH'S perception is SEEN in his words.....Nothing MORE, NOTHING LESS.....!
