what, you like 1930's "grunge" ?

i'm slightly older than you, dude - neither one of us were even teenagers when 'grunge' music first appeared. in this context, early to mid '80s is the old stuff.

So, Christ says "...Freely you have received, freely give." and you say that selling the truth is just fine as long as the author makes money on it. Sorry, but I gotta go with Christ on this one.
and lets not forget Jesus teaching on storing up possessions as well as Jesus and the money changers at the temple. it said Jesus actually flipped their tables over. wow!

That is whats called filthy lucre. Many pastors today revile in it and say what you want to hear so they can get your money. Hey why don't the pastor give me 100 bucks so God can give Him 100,000.00. just saying.

oh, we were talking about 'the best grunge band.'

your profile says you are 38; i'm 39. i don't lie on my profile.

i listen to a lot of things :)
i have one of those USB things in my car stereo - about 10GB of music on it right now i shuffle through, with all kinds of genres, and ages -- the oldest thing on it is a collection of liturgical sonatas from the late 17th century; there are also 3 albums of gospel folk/blues songs from the 1920's and as things as new as hymns of worship, verbatim scripture set to unblack metal, and hip-hop teaching & expounding about the gospel from 2016, the newest being less than 2 weeks old ((just got a new Rivers & Robots album)).

but as far as grunge goes - a sub-genre of 'alt-rock' music that appeared in the mid-late 80's and lasted to the latter part of the 90's, mostly out of the Seattle area - it's difficult to 'rank' bands and always a subjective mess open to argument. but i stand by my statement about Sonic Youth being the 'granddaddy' of both Nirvana & AIC, and that commercial success aside, they were (and still are - they've been on 'hiatus' for a while AFAIK tho i don't really keep up with any secular artists anymore) musically more profound, accomplished and technically innovative. EVOL never sold that many copies, but it inspired a whole slew of people who became the 'pillars of grunge music' to form their garage bands and start playing music that had this kind of sludgy, melodic rock sound in the first place.

.. & if i had to pick between Nirvana and AIC, i'd have to side with bushido on that one. they were just all-around more groovy, with less 'fluff' and dead-end tracks.

As far as the million dollar lifestyles go, living large off of grandmas back, did anyone see this memorial day tribute to the fallen over the weekend? I cant think of the guys name and his wife. A minister, so called. I got a red light in my spirit so i googled the guy. He lives on donations for his ministry, so called. He's having a 4 million dollar lakeside home built. ( gee, i guess he works another job on the side).
His salary is a million and a half dollars a year. Poor slob. How does he ever survive.
Then we collectively cuss the government for untold billions of dollars of waste every year.

well his point is that Nirvana had a whole lot more quality songs than Alice in Chains ever did. "Dirt" is classic, sure - but so is "Bleach" and who can forget "Nevermind" ? and almost everything on "In Utero" is epic too. plus, their "unplugged" work is better IMO.

but both these bands pale next to Sonic Youth, because if there was no Sonic Youth, there was no grunge, period.
. . so ((back on topic)) it's another case of barking up the wrong trees.
I liked Nevermind. I think I was a teen ager or very early 20's when I heard teen spirit.

I suppose their music just wasn't heavy enough for me to say they were the best grunge band. Neither lyrically nor musically. But that was just my personal taste.

I don't listen to anything like that anymore. If it doesn't come on K-LOVE or isn't reminding me of what Christ has done for me and all mankind, it just seems like mostly a curse to me. Although I can sometimes see how Christ still was able to penetrate all the plans of the enemy, even through the curse I was listening to and chanting along to, when I sometimes hear that music.

It kind of makes me sad that I was so blind and stupid. Does listening to old music make anyone else feel that way? Ashamed at the old rebellion?

Cant think of his name. Something happens when all that big money starts rolling in. These guys fall off the green back cliff losing their minds and maybe their souls.

could you possibly actually tell the truth here? I mean, it's not like someone can't go back and read what I wrote

I said NOTHING about selling the truth...those are YOUR words, because my response to you makes more sense than your accusations

Jesus also said the workman is worthy of his hire

The problem with you Bible experts, is that you are only an expert in what happens to substantiate opinions formed according to your own understanding. You don't know the whole counsel of God but you know enough to says things that are either not true or only half the truth

you are not going anywhere with this one, let alone with Jesus

honestly, another thing you Bible experts do, is ASSUME you alone know what Jesus said...you don't as your taken out of context verse so easily demonstrates
Well if you think that she is doing this with a completely altruistic motive, send her your money.

I tend to get a little suspicious when no matter what you say, quote, show, use videos of their own words, etc., no matta what, it's wrong.

I'm tending to believe if I find hard evidence from the Bible, that would be wrong, too.

Maybe I got it wrong..... maybe there's a couple of people on here that post, & when they do, they're always right, no matta what.

i think we should have no shame in showing who these people really are.

No man can serve [SUP][b][/SUP]two masters: for either he shall hate the one, and love the other, or else he shall lean to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and [SUP][c][/SUP]riches.

Jesus said it plain enough for me

I read those....and it's from the bible too....hard evidence one might say...and how true they are! Thank you for reminding us of the true Christian nature that is in Christ.
I just stumbled across that site yesterday! It's pretty neat--lots of free info and resources. They really go into detail on their doctrinal statement--even including a "We Reject..." section after their "We Believe..." section. Doctrinal Statement

So many Christian "groups" have some slight (sometimes significant) differences/disagreements and they ALL claim to be the ONE or the TRUE church. I wonder, since it's MAN who is writing these 'doctrinal statements', maybe--just maybe MAN is sometimes wrong. Why do we so often lean on our own understanding, rather than just simply stating: I don't know for certain (as only God does), but this is what I believe...

I'm just thinking "out loud" here.. Hope I didn't derail anyone's conversation.

Love & Peace,
PW

if you truly want to name a band that give birth to grunge it would have been jane's addiction. sonic youth was punk / surfer.
