God bless you. God deliver you from the heresy of King James Onlyism if you believe the KJV is the only word of God in English, or even the only word of God in any language, superior even to the original Greek New Testament, which the late heretic Peter S. Ruckman believed.

Peter S. Ruckman was a KJV only believer. He is not like all KJV only believers. But he was strange in his doctrines. He believed that there were space aliens, of various sorts, he believed he had a Buddhist enlightenment experience called samadhi in which he temporarily left his body, and he believes when Christians are resurrected, they will all (including the women and children) be given the body of a 33 year old Jewish male.
All of this he claims to find superior revelations from the KJV only Bible, and he claims the KJV English "corrects" the original Greek New Testament. And he believes in extraterrestrials. If that's not crazy, what is crazy? And at least one KJV believer was crazy. Don't get me wrong. I also suffered from mental illness 2 years ago in 2008 AD and I had a severe panic attack and delusions and errors of mind and behavior. God forgive me. God bless and forgive Mr. Ruckman.

I'm not King James only but I do think I understand what they are saying. The modern versions haven't been around as long. I think people are getting used to modern Bibles. Some of the changes in modern Bibles can be wrong, but so can a few things in the KJV if you don't study the original language. I believe that we have the Bible so many ways in English that people don't nessarily need to use so many Bibles.

Thats becasue he was around Bob Jones...

Anyway, Ruckman, is proof that the carnal mind IS emnity against God. So GOD gives him over to a strong delusion. When you are MORE worried about how schollarly you are, and how much knowledge(of man) you have, MORE then if your life is pleasing to GOD, or even in Gods WILL at all, then God will give you over to it.

That said, Im NOT a Kjv only person, how ever i think KJV is pretty darn close to the original greek from what i have seen. But really i dont think ANY english version would do it justice, because english is a corrupt language.

So are you saying you would never use the KJV?

No. That would be an extreme view. I sometimes use the KJV. The King James Version must be corrected in Hebrews 6:6 in versions that are correct in Hebrews 6:6 in the NASB and ONT, where these versions are correct and the KJV is wrong. In Hebrews 6:6 and a few, very few, other verses in the KJV, the KJV is a faulty translation. BUT, the KJV is a GOOD translation in MOST verses. NASB = New American Standard Bible ONT = Orthodox New Testament. 2 volumes. Copyright 2000, Holy Apostles Convent, Buena Vista, Colorado.

Well, I have read that the KJV is the closest and most accurate English translation of the original Greek. I have KJV though I found as I got older, I wanted a plainer language Bible. So I bought a New Revised Standard Version edition. I love the archaic English but when you really want to study and ponder the Bible, I have found a plainer English one to be better for that. I still refer to the KJV once in a while and compare passages. I've heard there is supposed to be a newer KJV version with easier English - might check that out.

Speaking of Bibles, I've heard that the Catholic Church has its own suggested Bible, don't know which one that is though.

Dear Rosewater, 2 of the most accurate Bibles in the English language are available on GOOGLE from Amazon.com from
Holy Apostles Convent, translators. (2000). The Orthodox New Testament. 2 volumes. Volume 1, Evangelistarion, The Holy Gospels. Volume 2, Praxapostolos, Acts, Epistles, Revelation. Buena Vista, CO: Holy Apostles Convent.
Saint Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology, Elk Grove, CA, Fr. Jack N. Sparks, Ph.D., Dean, editor. Copyright 2008. Orthodox Study Bible. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Bibles.
God bless you.

Hebrews 6:6 in the ONT is more accurate than the NKJV verse in the OSB, as the NKJV leaves this verse uncorrected from the error of the KJV of the word "if", which the OSB editors overlooked and did not seem to know it's a doctrinal and translational error.

I have found Challoner's Douay Rheims to be sufficient, notwithstanding the errors in the footnotes owing to the corruptive influence of the Catholic Magisterium. The printed edition, 1961 revision, is acceptable, but ignore the online versions as they have been tampered with by the politically correct/homosexual agenda crowd to the point of being utterly worthless.

The most accurate Bible in English is William Tyndale's, upon which the King James is based, although it is twice as old and somewhat harder to read. Unfortunately Tyndale didn't live to finish his translation of the Old Testament, as he was betrayed and murdered by the Catholics. Tyndale's book of Revelation is necessary to understand the prophecies contained therein, as his is free of error. Without Tyndale there would be little chance of understanding those prophecies.

Informative post. I actually saw a documentary on Tyndale and understand he wrote the first Bibles translated into the English language.

Just for the record. The KJV is closer to the Greek Majority Text. Modern Bibles are closer to the Alexandrian Text. You get the chose of the majority of text (Greek Majority) or the oldest text (Alexandrain). They find more Greek Majority text, but I do believe the oldest text are the Bible. I actually believe in both, so I don't have a problem with KJV or Modern Bibles.

"(In my own Bible studies throughout the years, I've always kept one habit with me [by the grace of God!], and God help me if I ever come to the day when I have to change that habit. The habit is, whenever I found myself believing a system that caused any Bible verse to contradict another one, or apparently contradict it, I always altered my system to fit the scripture."

I would say the KJV is accurate for the scholarship and texts that the translators had available to them at the time, but not necessarily the most accurate today, nor the most understandable.

The Roman Catholic Church has a variety of translations that are Church approved translations in a variety of languages, but the end all Bible for the Catholic Church is the Latin Vulgate.

As for Tyndale, he was by no means the first to translate parts of the Bible into English, however I do think he was the first to endeavor to translate the entire Bible into English.

You can go here and find PDF downloads of many books of the Bible translated into Old English by Catholic priests and monks before Tyndale http://wordhord.org/nasb/
