The promise of obedience they appear to fulfill when this involves no sacrifice; but when self-denial and self-sacrifice are required, when they see the cross to be lifted, they draw back. Thus the conviction of duty wears away, and known transgression of God’s commandments becomes habit. The ear may hear God’s word, but the spiritual perceptive powers have departed. The heart is hardened, the conscience seared. {COL 279.2}
Do not think that because you do not manifest decided [BEGIN P.280] hostility to Christ you are doing Him service. We thus deceive our own souls. By withholding that which God has given us to use in His service, be it time or means or any other of His entrusted gifts, we work against Him. {COL 279.3}
Satan uses the listless, sleepy indolence of professed Christians to strengthen his forces and win souls to his side. Many, who think that though they are doing no actual work for Christ, they are yet on His side, are enabling the enemy to pre-occupy ground and gain advantages. By their failure to be diligent workers for the Master, by leaving duties undone and words unspoken, they have allowed Satan to gain control of souls who might have been won for Christ. {COL 280.1}
We can never be saved in indolence and inactivity. There is no such thing as a truly converted person living a helpless, useless life. It is not possible for us to drift into heaven. No sluggard can enter there. If we do not strive to gain an entrance into the kingdom, if we do not seek earnestly to learn what constitutes its laws, we are not fitted for a part in it. Those who refuse to co-operate with God on earth would not co-operate with Him in heaven. It would not be safe to take them to heaven.

You preaching salvation based on works? It also looks like you implying a saved person
can lose their salvation to the devil. How much work, must a working Christian work, in order to
work the works of a working Christian?

Lawoflove I love your profile pic. I have a laminated poster of that I got a few years ago. They should make that into a tapestry. My last truck I had a last supper tapestry for my headliner. I see what your saying. It makes god seam like a general who wants no part of anyone who is a weaker link. Being former marine corps I can understand and appreciate that. We should be well versed in spiritual warfare especially in these end times. There will be crowns in heaven that may resemble the gold wreath crowns and such that conquerers would wear. But there are rewards in heaven for those who truly seek him and do his will. Salvation itself is a gift not earned. But those who accept him and do nothing else will be ashamed even though they made it in they will realize they did nothing for their savior. This should be geared as a rewards in heaven post not a salvation issue. Future readers i hope they don't see this as salvation by works or see god as a military dictator. God is love and offers salvation as a gift through jesus. We should try to light a fire for christ in people but the message has to be clear. Though you may not intend for people to read this as salvation by works, it has been taken that way in the above comment and possibly by more. A slight revision and clearer scripture abreviations may serve you well in getting your point across. I am giving you benefit of the doubt that you do not believe salvation by works.

While the bible says we are to do good (works)
it cleraly says we are NOT saved by works

It also says if you do works without love (but for the sake of doing them), they do you no good

And....it says neither angels nor demons can take you away from God (if you do stray, that is your own choice)

Work does not bring Salvation, but Salvation brings works...

What it means is, do not think that by doing work in front of men is enough for Salvation, the difference is Yahweh knows you inside out, you hide nothing from him.

So by going around showing men that you are doing works, is not going to cut it with our Heavenly Father, when you accept Yeshua as your Saviour, you change inside out, works will not change you outside in....

Out of love and appreciation we all know we must spread the truth, we deny ourselves just like Yeshua did for us.
Yahweh gave his only son for a sacrifice, for our wicked ways that he despises.

Do you know our Heavenly Father is jealous for us, he is so merciful and loving that he is offering us Yeshua his only son, so that we may have eternal life.
When we accept Salvation, we know that we must not hide the light, but let it shine in the darkness. We must not sit waiting haughtily for the second coming, watching other people blinded by the lies, deceived and lost.
We humble ourselves and follow the example set before us, we deny the flesh and let the spirit guide us. We read the word of Yahweh and we understand is long suffering, we glorify him in everything we do or say.
We will be accused of things, we will be called crazy, but that is what it means to obey Yahweh, that is what it means to accept Salvation, Yeshua is our Saviour.

Ask yourself this, if you receive a free gift, do you not wonder who sent this gift? and why this gift was given? Do you not want to offer something in return? When you realise it is the greatest gift you could ever have been given, do you not show appreciation? Humble yourself and seek the truth.

We must deny ourselves to tell the lost the truth, we do not save anyone we simply advertise it, direct others in the right direction.
We Glorify the Almighty, loving, merciful, long suffering Yahweh, we read the words given through Yeshua his only son.
Yahweh sent his son, and if we accept then we can be saved.
Yeshua is the only way to be forgiven by his Father, our Almighty creator Yahweh.

Do not rely on another man, read the Bible front to back yourself, we are not expected do unite into one religion, this is not acceptable to our Heavenly Father.
We are not expected to be rich and successful in worldy ways. We are not expected to break the commandments.

We are not under the law of man, but we certainly are under Yahweh law. Find out for yourself what pleases him, what angers him.

Mathew 5

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

So accepting Salvation, and continuing in worldy ways, is not acceptable.

You go against them, not in hate but in love.

If you notice one of the first words of the quote was the word "obedience" No one should think the word obedience means salvation by works. And yes if we do not "obey" Christ then "yes" there is no part in Heaven, even if you came to know the Lord like King Soul who was saved. He made a choice not to follow God in the end and so lost his soul. I believe that salvation was never by works in the OT or the NT both had the same message of salvation by Grace through faith. The Hebrew nation when God saved them first from slavery then after and only after did he ask them to follow in his laws. So that is a photo of Grace, obedience, faith in the OT if you ask me. I hope that helps you understand my point of view

God bless you and Thank you for you comment. Obedience comes from love ! God is Love !

The truth about works that so many people debate about is this.

We are not saved by our works that we do according to the flesh to get to heaven,but when we are saved then we have to do good works,the works God gives us to do,to have faith activated in our life.

We are not saved by any works that we try to do to get to heaven apart from Christ,like the Old Testament only or false religions.

We are not saved by works is talking about,that we are not saved by any works that we try to do to get to heaven apart from Christ.That is what God is addressing.It is talking trying to get to heaven not accepting Christ.

It is not saying that we do not have to have works after we come to Christ,for the Bible says,work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,and the Bible says Abraham was justified by works,and faith cannot save you without works.

We are not by any works we do trying to get to heaven apart from Christ,but we are saved by the works of the Spirit to have faith activated in our life.

If you do not have those works after saved,then faith is not in your life,which is works along the lines of helping the poor,preaching the Gospel,keeping yourself unspotted from the world,works of the Spirit,love towards people.

This does not show salvation by works but, what the life of a christian should be.

I would say they never had the conviction to begin with but only a superficial whitewashed faith that never pentrated their hearts or souls but only was a mental excerise they grew weary of pretending to believe in

no the conscience is not seared but suprassed and reasoned away with. what spiritual perceptice powers? how can something depart that was never present?

that would be manifest hostility. to misuse the gifts God has given us by allowing them to grow mold or by consuming what we should be tending and sharing with others...

mmm this propogates the misconception of WHO actually wins souls. it is not those who plant the seeds or waters but GOD who increases who wins souls to HIMSELF. if they are doing no actual work for Christ then they should examine their souls and see if they are in the Faith and not already working for their master, Satan. "listless, sleepy indolent professing Christians" are souls already enslaved to sin and among Satan's forces not God's. we are not fit to be apart of Heaven not matter what we do. that is why Jesus died on the cross. we are not to be indolence and inactive but our activity is not what saves us. It is because of Faith in Jesus Christ who died on the cross and rose again for the remission of our sins and clothed us in His righteousness. Propiation, its a wonderful word to learn.

read the story of Martha and Mary and tell me who fits Ellen White's description and what did Jesus say to such a woman?

Its says: "The promise of obedience they appear to fulfill". That means they see the need to do good for God but only do it if it works for them or they have enough to do with out so that its requires no self- sacrifice.

no the conscience is not seared but suprassed and reasoned away with. what spiritual perceptice powers? how can something depart that was never present?
A seared conscience is very much a teaching of the bible have you not read :1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

mmm this propogates the misconception of WHO actually wins souls. it is not those who plant the seeds or waters but GOD who increases who wins souls to HIMSELF. if they are doing no actual work for Christ then they should examine their souls and see if they are in the Faith and not already working for their master, Satan. The point here is a true Christian will all ways be about his fathers business. Maybe you should read this over slower next time Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Luke 10
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’[k] feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

41 And Jesus[l] answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

perhaps you should read over it slower next time. the point of my post was to point out that whipping people up to work work work is not what Jesus did.

"a true Christian will all ways be about his fathers business."

no sometimes a "true Christian" will sometimes be seating at his Father's feet listening to His instructions and other times serving their brethren.

Thank you, I very much enjoy the story. I will try to use a softer tone this time.

Mary at Jesus feet same thing as : "a true Christian will all ways be about his fathers business." See Jesus said this quote when he was a young boy, he was at the temple.( Luke 2:49) Its very interesting to note that in John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us..." Dwelt among us means tabernacled among us, so in other words any time we are with Jesus he is "tabernacling" with us. Same as Jesus when he was young being in the temple.( He was tabernacled with God the Father.) But if you look even closer to the story boy Jesus was "witnessing" to the teachers the knowledge of God( Luke 2:47.)

So when we say" I will be about my fathers business" we are indeed saying we are with Jesus, just as Mary was.(they both are with Jesus Mary and Martha just Mary is closer than Martha at the time being.) Mary was not being lazy though. She knew she needed understanding to be ready for kingdom to come.

Mary was looking for devotional time with Jesus, Spiritual advancement. She knew how to be strong in Christ. She spent time with Jesus. Because if we spend this time now with Jesus we will have strength for what comes our way. But if we stop praying and stop reading the word, we will not have the strength when we need it most. As long as we don't using Mary as a way to me Lazy our self . or inactive.

Luk 10:2 Therefore He said to them, Indeed, the harvest is much, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He send out workers into His harvest.

Thank you so much I enjoyed reading that story two times and would do it again if need be. Thanks again!
