So the law had nothing to do with the salvation of the Israelites, but it was a mixture of civil and ceremonial laws that foreshadowed Christ? That I can start to wrap my head around a bit.
Yet the Sacrifical Laws pointed to Yahshua, particularly the Passover and the other moadim.

To be more precise, the Law of Moses consisted of the following, some of which were rendered null and void by the finished work of Christ, as explained in the Epistle to the Hebrews:

1. Laws pertaining to the construction of the tabernacle (carried over to the Temple). NULL AND VOID

2. Laws pertaining to the Levitical priesthood. NULL AND VOID

3. Laws pertaining to offerings and sacrifices. NULL AND VOID

4. Laws pertaining to feasts and festivals. NULL AND VOID

5. Dietary laws. NULL AND VOID

4. Civil/criminal laws. Many of these were adopted into the laws of Christian lands, and would still be valid.

5. The Ten Commandments. Moral and spiritual laws incorporated into the Law of Christ .

1. We know that Jesus said that He came to fulfill the law, not to destroy it.

Jesus came to fulfill the law, which being a sinless man He fulfilled the law,and fulfilled all the roles of the nation of Israel in accordance to the Old Testament, making the New Testament possible, for He was the perfect High Priest, perfect Prophet, perfect King, perfect saint, perfect sacrifice, the bread of life, and whatever else He had to fulfill according to the Old Testament.

Jesus said that all power was given to Him in heaven, and earth, and He is King, but He has not fulfilled His role as perfect King on earth yet,for it must be done on earth for it to be fulfilled, for the nation of Israel, and the Old Testament were given on earth, and He did not rule on earth as King when He came in flesh, but it will happen during the millennial reign of Christ, which in that day the LORD shall be King over all the earth, and there shall be one LORD,and His name one.

When Jesus has fulfilled His role as perfect King on earth which everyone shall only acknowledge Him that Jesus and the saints rule over that are not spiritual, then heaven, and earth, shall pass away, and the old earth, and old heaven, shall not be remembered, nor come to mind, for it is associated with sin and rebellion, and when the saints, and angels, are at the New Jerusalem, they will remember nothing prior to that for Jesus has made all things new,and the former things have passed away.

2. Jesus does instruct His followers to listen to the Pharisees, but to follow what they preach, and not what they do because they were hypocrites. (This is an important point I want to hit on because to me it's unclear whether here Jesus is truly advocating a strict adherence to the Levitical laws, or if this is more of a "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" type teaching, where He doesn't necessarily agree with Caesar but acknowledges that we do need to submit to those in authority as an example of submission to the Father.)

It would be along the lines of the latter, for they were to obey those in authority, which God said do not go against the government in rebellion, for no nation can rule unless He allows it,and to go against the government would be going against God.

But they were to know the truth also,so they would have to obey authority, but if it went against what they plainly knew God was against,of course they should not obey it,for no authority is above God's authority, and what He commands.

Jesus said the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat,so they were to obey that authority, but they were not to follow their hypocrisy, and works, for they bind heavy burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders, but will not lift a finger to do them, which sounds like they were making the people jump through hoops of tradition, which is what Jesus came down of them for a lot,for they made the word of God of none effect by their tradition.

3. Similarly to the above, Jesus does instruct a man that He healed to go to the priests and perform the ritual sacrifice.

That is because it was still the Old Testament, and not the New Testament yet,for Jesus did not die,and shed His blood, and was not raised from the dead yet.

4. In contrast, to all of the above, Jesus forbids the stoning of the woman caught in adultery. (This is significant and cannot be brushed aside for if we are to believe that Jesus advocates and condoned following the Levitical laws to a tee, then in order to be directly in submission to what YHWH commanded, He would have had to have had her put to death. But this is not what happens.)

In the New Testament when a person receives the Spirit that is when they are truly saved, for if a person does not have the Spirit they are none of Christ's saints, and the blood of Christ makes it possible to receive the Spirit, and they are spiritual, and Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way nailing them to His cross,so let no one judge you in those things, and what remains is the 2 greatest commandments love God,love people, which all the law and prophets hang on those two laws, and the physical ordinances of Israel was a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.

Since those that receive the Spirit are spiritual, the Old Testament physical ordinances do not apply, only the laws of love, and moral laws.

Jesus advocated obeying the Old Testament to the people, for the New Testament was not in affect yet,but Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and is spiritual,so His teachings, would be different, coming from a spiritual perspective, for He is spiritual where those that He advocated to obey the Old Testament were fleshy for they have not received the Spirit.

Jesus is spiritual, and His teaching brought a higher level of love than what they were taught under the Old Testament, which they could stone for offenses, but Jesus brought a higher level of love that it is not permitted under what He is teaching as their Messiah, for He can do that for He is spiritual, where they are fleshy,so His teachings are coming from the spiritual perspective, and not the Old Testament teachings that were given when they could not receive the Spirit,so God had them do physical ordinances until Jesus came.

Jesus' teachings can go against what was taught in the Old Testament in many areas, for He is spiritual, and their Messiah showing them a more excellent way.

Lust

Mat 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Mat 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Mat 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Divorce

Mat 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Oaths

Mat 5:33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Mat 5:34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
Mat 5:35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
Mat 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Mat 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Retaliation

Mat 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
Mat 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Mat 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Love Your Enemies

Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Since Jesus is spiritual, being their Messiah, and showing them a more excellent way in love, the New Testament,He can say to them that would stone the woman,he that is without sin cast the first stone, and show them the more excellent way that God has for them being their Messiah.

Jesus had to fulfill the law of the Old Testament, and the roles associated with it,but He is spiritual, and teaching things to them on a spiritual level, which in the New Testament stoning is not permitted.

Jesus told the people to obey the Old Testament, but He is spiritual, and is their Messiah, and showing them the ways of the New Testament,so His teachings would be according to the ways of the New Testament, and to fulfill the Old Testament made it the New Testament, for He did it perfectly always being led of the Spirit, and spiritual.

There were certain things Jesus obeyed concerning the Old Testament that were important, and something that would apply in the New Testament, such as perfect King,High Priest, and such roles He had to fulfill, but went against the areas that were imcompatible witht the New Testament teaching them the ways of the New Testament that were above the Old Testament.
