Romans 5 (KJV)

5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

[SUP]2 [/SUP]By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

[SUP]7 [/SUP]For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

[SUP]8 [/SUP]But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

[SUP]13 [/SUP](For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

[SUP]16 [/SUP]And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

[SUP]17 [/SUP]For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

[SUP]18 [/SUP]Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

[SUP]19 [/SUP]For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

[SUP]20 [/SUP]Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

[SUP]21 [/SUP]That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

You summarized it pretty well. It's faith in the new birth, and not faith in the living lord.
nonsense......how many times have you seen these scriptures posted?

Galatians 3:3 (NASB)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

Colossians 2:6-8 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

[SUP]7 [/SUP] having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

[SUP]8 [/SUP] See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.

Colossians 3:1-3 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

[SUP]3 [/SUP] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Why can't he be referring to both salvation and sanctification?

I skimmed back over and did not see where the list is for salvation only.
He can be, but if we are talking Lordship salvation it is commonly speaking in terms of justification and true regeneration vs easy believism.
You don't want to mix justification and sanctification as Rome does.

Here is a thread dedicated to "repenting". There are "fruits of repentance" but they are not the root of repentance - it is a by-product of the life of Christ in us - not something we do before we come to Christ. That is anti-the gospel of the grace of Christ.

Coming to believe in Christ is repentance and He is Lord when we first come to Him and when we go to be with Him in heaven and He will be Lord to those that reject Him too. His lordship is always in place.

. In the Bible, the word repent means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions (Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20 declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action.

Above quoted from thread

Okay...we need to have a change in mind that results in the change in our actions, which can only be done by the Holy Spirit leading us.

However how does that work if we don't submit to God and follow the Holy Spirit?

Actually I think Rome believes in progressive justification. Not a one-time event, but something that must be maintained through sacraments and such. Else it leaks out and the whole process must be started over.

Amen...that's why we preach the true gospel of the grace of Christ to people after they come to Christ. We need to hear the gospel of Christ everyday in order to grow in grace.

Grace "teaches" us how to live godly and righteously in this present world. We can only change by His life in us - we can't change by the flesh.

There may be some that after coming to Christ refuse to walk in the things of the Lord but the Lord will deal with them as children. They are still children of the Lord.

Works-based salvationists believe they become "un-children" of God which is complete spiritual ignorance gone to seed.

What do you mean by submission is optional? All those scriptures are encouraging people to believe and walk in Christ?

So what is your take on easy believism?
It says something like, 'just believe in Jesus/walk the aisle/sign on the dotted line' etc.
There is no message of Christ dying for their sin (thus convicting of their sin), no receiving forgiveness, nor receiving the new birth/new nature.

Okay, thanks.

So if people get convicted of their sins, do they then repent and turn back to God?

Isn't that when they are receptive to the gospel message that Christ died for their sins and they are forgiven?

Is the new birth and receiving the Holy Spirit automatic or can it take time?

Oh Oh...you said the new birth/new nature....*gasp*....now HeRose will call you gnostic and that you are really denying Christ now.

Right, not a one time event and one is justified at the end of their life if he has lived a 'worthy life'.

Posting it again, maybe someone will read Gods words and not their own for once in here!

Romans 5 (KJV)

Just trying to figure out what you believe.
I believe the true Christian live is an astonishment of the grace of Christ and what He has done for us in His life and death and in His present day ministry before the Father.

The more we hear about Christ, His love for us and what He has done ( even though to some this is gnostic belief ) - the more we will walk in Him and have the fruit of His life flow in and through us to a hurt and dying world and also to our fellow believers.

"Submitting" our life is not a requirement. Reading Romans 5 should show anyone that truth. Anyone seeking truth that is.
