this is some pretty smart observing by secular people; the ultimate goal can be described as fulfillment
achieving this alway seems illusory; people think they have it then find the satisfaction is not what they expected;
because the only way to fulfill our God made potential is by having a close relationship with our creator

Just wondering if what ppl think of this theory - particulaurly the top tier - which is "self actualisation".Some say that it is New Agey and that if we have food and clothing, with this we will be content.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't get how the theory is new-agey. I haven't heard of any real academic empirical study that's been done to try to support the theory. It's one of those old theories that people sort of accept without evidence. I haven't heard of any research supporting the idea of cognitive dissonance either, maybe since that one just seems to make a lot of sense.

I don't believe at all in this particular theory (Maslows that is). I think needs can change totally indepenently of other needs being fulfilled or not. (if I am hungry and alone, I don't stop feeling alone just because I am hungry).

Yes
but a person who lacks food and water can still long deeply for other things.
someone living under threat of war might still long to one day "be something" (a composer perhaps)

Yeah pretty good. Becoming who we are is vital to our destiny.
